Beacon Bowl closed in May, 2007. I was the former owner and we transferred all of our business to Chippewa Bowl which we also own. It was a sad day when we closed. Mark Voight

Good ol’ Beacon Bowl. If you’re driving to the airport, either to catch a plane or the South Shore Line to Chicago, wouldn’t you rather just be bowling? Well, you can be if you stop at Beacon Bowl. I spent many a night(OK, maybe nine) in grad school celebrating strikes here. Who knew that you could improve as a bowler by gaining weight, not practicing, not using proper form, and using a too-light ball? That’s what I love about the sport; it’s 10 percent mental, 40 percent physical, and 50 percent luck. So I’ve watched Final Four games here, have played video games and possibly even pinball here, and have sometimes even wished I lived on South Bend’s west side so that I’d be closer to here. Instead, I lived in the Northeast Neighborhood; and it took me a really long time to learn the shortcut to Lincoln Way, West, that I’ve probably already forgotten. There’s a bingo hall nearby that my roommate always wanted to hit up. So did I. Beacon Bowl rules.
