I have lived in Monterey for 3 years and since arriving, I have shopped at Wisteria for home décor. I haven’t been since last spring but noticed a change in the attitude of the staff. It’s a well-merchandised store and some decent finds are there, if you don’t care to shop online. It seems as though there are more pedestrian accessories that you can locate online with free shipping. And, I saw more reproduction pieces this past weekend than French originals. Top that off with the snide, low estrogen staff, I think I would rather shop online. Hello, Ms. Owner? Whose minding your store?

Went here last weekend with the 21 year old daughter and the husband… we all fell in love! Couldn’t believe the level of ‘yumminess’! If anyone knows of similar spots in the area(and beyond), please let me know! Charm galore; friendly staff; unique items at ‘not crazy’ prices. Love it!

Went here yesterday and initially loved the atmosphere and feel of the place until we found ourselves being followed around by one of the women that worked there. Not only was she not friendly, which is not like people who live and work in Santa Cruz, but she obviously thought we were not trustworthy. I read another review that called the women snarky and I totally agree, but the woman really took it one step further making us feel like criminals. I wish I would have said something to her, but just really couldn’t believe it was happening until I discussed it with my husband after we left and he saw it too.

Absolutely love going to Wisteria. Just walking through all the beautiful rooms and gardens makes me happy. It’s pretty pricey though so I usually end up only buying a couple small things each time I visit. And I always leave with tons of ideas and inspiration for decorating at home :)

OMG… gorgeous surroundings; exquisite plants and trees; a group of buildings housing beautiful furniture, linens, lamps and all that is required to make a space your own. Great for all occasions…

My über snotty self should find this sorta shopping experience fun, after all I’ve lived the south of France dream, and moved it on into a groovier Barcelona hang. Fussy french antiques come with a charm all patina-d to death… so seek and ye’shall find pretty much all of that and the knock off faux french-ness of things gift marty.(Not bad but not much really authentic.) Big period piece furniture lurks like dinosaurs from another era but then again that is the authentic piece of french history. Good taste lives here, but the over stuffed nature means finding authentic takes time.

Love this place. If you want to just walk around and unwind this is the place. Really like their inventory and garden center.

What a shame! This place used to have such a nice environment despite the snarky mean women that work the front desk. The garden guys were awesome and their lovely personalities and knowledge about the plants made it worth the trip. The garden guys are gone and the place has taken on the appearance of a Russian grocery store. The unpleasant women still work there… so it’s not really a good experience any longer. The items that are for sale can easily be found online or in numerous other stores. Last trip here!

I love Wisteria!!! It is such a special and unique store with lots of charm and incredible antiques. I have purchased many beautiful things there and have never had a problem. The staff are very helpful and I recommend to anyone to stop by Wisteria and browse this beautiful, French-inspired antique shop. Oh! The gardens are also beautiful and they have fabulous plants and accessories. I just love Wisteria. Frank

Buyer beware! Wisteria will not back up their plants. I recently purchased a bird cage topiary from Wisteria and it is infested with spider mites!!! The plant is on life support at this point. I spoke to Carol and asked if the owner would please call me back re: this issue. Owner wouldn’t even give me the courtesy of a phone call. Just had Carol call back to report that they have strict policy that plants are not returnable. After years of spending tons of money here, they have lost my business FOREVER!

The whole experience here is just lovely. You can wander through the gardens at a leisurely pace, poke around the many rooms inside, and enjoy the wide array of household and garden items. Pricey, but a wonderful place to enjoy window shopping, and get inspiration for your home. It’s so much fun because it feels like you get to go into someone’s magnificent home, and everything is for sale if you want it! They do a wonderful job stocking unique items. Great for gifts and splurging on yourself once in awhile. A chic, casual French Country feel abounds. I love this place. I’ve come here since I was a little girl, and I remember before Wisteria was even there(it was actually someone’s home!). Absolutely a great place to stop by when you’re in town, and a great local business.

This has to be the most intriguing place I’ve been in a very long time. It is first off an antique store, but it has other treasures as well for the garden. There are several buildings and the main house, and then winding along through the garden you find a myriad of delights for your own garden. In the main house each room is shock full of all kinds of wondrous items. Linens, furniture, wall hangings, pillows, dishes, blankets, hats, purses, you name it every room has something unique and interesting to see. Not to mention the friendly slumbering felines that are part of the place. Outside my favorite place for magical gardens, there are antiques galore, statues, arbors, arches, fountains, benches, and some of the most beautiful exotic flowering plants. If I were a child I would want for nothing more then to spend my time playing make believe and wandering through the magical pathways, but as an adult I just love coming here and dreaming of a different time, and always walk away with something new for my own garden. The place is really a delight!
