Got there a little early. The winemaker was outside and gladly brought us in for a tasting. I believe his name was Mike. Super friendly guy. My wife and I hit if off instantly with him due to our past time in the wine industry. It was like chatting with and old friend. We also met April(I think that was her name) who was super fun to talk to and kept us entertained. As for their wines, mouvedre was a refreshing old style. We’ll definately come back the next time we go tasting in the Santa Cruz area!

First visit here was at the July passport day… we got there a bit before 12pm but were welcomed in and served by a guy, who I would guess to be one of the owners. He was friendly and was good about giving us the details on their wine. After the first pour he left and what I can only assume is his son, took over. I noticed a crack in my wine glass so he swapped it out for a really dirty glass(residue in the bottom, old lip stick on the rim) and when I asked for another glass he walked away. Maybe he didn’t hear me, that’s fine. Some people in our group were interested in buying some wine but the younger guy was unfriendly, uninformative about what we were drinking and was mostly interested in playing his music. When he did talk to us it was to tell us about how great john Lennon was. We stood around a bit more to see if the older guy would come back but he didn’t so we left. On the up side, the wine is ok and they have locally made art for sale so you can browse will sipping. I would not go back because the younger guy was so inhospitable.

Had a tasty Petite Syrah here, but it was overpriced. The main impression I was left with was that the owners do not care much about their property. There was quite a bit of trash on the road in front of their driveway, and there is a large area of grading that seems like it was abandoned. Basically not the romantic setting I would expect from a winery that oozes cheezy poetry on it’s bottles.

Our son was married on April 2012 at Poetic Cellars. The wedding was fabulous and the setting spectacular. He and his wife had very specific desires for their wedding and Poetic Cellars listened and gave them the wedding of their dreams. As far as the wine — I was not a real wine person(especially reds) until our son introduced us to Poetic wines a couple of years back. We have since tried other wines and been to other vineyards but we have become Poetic«snobs». Kate, John and the family could not be nicer people. They welcomed us to their winery and we became instant long distant friends. I highly recommend a visit!

Enjoy the tasting, but think twice before you buy their wine. I was so disappointed to find out that ALL3 out of the 3 bottles we bought after our tasting were spoiled. The cork was soaked and the wine smelled rotten. I called Poetic Cellars to tell them about my spoiled wine experience and they never called me back. Awful and wasted so much money.

This is a great local winery on top of Rodeo Gulch Road. It’s a bit of a drive but well worth it when you consider that they are pet friendly, so you can lounge on the patio with your dog while you sip wine and take in the scenery, the owners are so friendly, and the wine is very nice. They recently put on a great fundraiser for the Santa Cruz SPCA, everyone had a wonderful time thanks to Poetic Cellars.

The wine here was a little girly I think but I enjoyed some of the reds. Nice people here. I prefer seeing vineyards too when I am up here but it is still a nice drive. I would probably rate higher if I liked white wine.

Poetic Cellars is a cozy little winery with great service and good wines. It doesn’t have the snazzy pouring counters like other wineries or notably fantastic views or breathtaking décor, but its simple, sweet, and not fussy. I really liked their port. The owner is really fun and friendly. Would definitely come back!

We went to Scott’s Valley Art & Wine Festival. Poetic Cellars was one of the wineries pouring today. This was my first time trying any of their wine. Since each wine pour was a ticket and each ticket was $ 3, I only tasted one wine from here. I tried their Ballad from Livermore Valley which is a blend. It was delicious, but reasonably priced at $ 38 pr. bottle. I even received a coupon for a 2 for 1 tasting so I can go to their place. I look forward to doing so and they said that they’d honor my Wine Passport which means FREE wine tasting. Yeah!!!

Poetic Cellars has participated in our fundraising event two years in a row now. Katie is incredible to work with. Their 2007 Chardonnay was paired with a honey goat cheese crostini with a pear shallot chutney by none other than the California Café. The combination was perfect and many guests stopped to enjoy the wine. We will be visiting this vintner soon to taste their other offerings.

We like to explore the wine growing areas around the Bay Area and the Santa Cruz mountains is a favorite area with many wineries beautifully tucked away in remote areas of the region. We picked up a flyer at one winery and it directed us to Poetic Cellars which is really tucked away on Soquel Road. It is unlikely you stumble across this winery, it is in the middle of nowhere. The winery is new, Katie the wine maker and owner is usually pouring the wine herself, there is usually a food pairing table to enjoy along with some interesting«artsy» stuff. The dogs Goldie and Whitie are on site to greet you and your dog is welcome as well. The vibe is warm and friendly, the wines are so good I joined their wine club.
