You know it’s time to leave a client interview with an attorney when you have asked salient questions to better understand the legal process and the attorney points to his 3 degrees on the wall as his answer. Arrogant, dismissive of client questions, condescending and rather sarcastic. That is the style we experienced here. The whole reason a client seeks out legal counsel is for professional advice and guidance. It is not the realm of the client to understand the process of law, especially in a specialty area. That is why we hire them. To guide and teach us to better understand the realm of that specific legal process. To better know what to expect and all the do’s and don’ts to best navigate through the problems. We do not hire them to to make us feel stupid. My teenage sarcastic son already does that. Also, this attorney after a previous hour interview on the phone did not even remember the circumstances of our case. He had not taken notes and was not prepared for our initial meeting at all. And when we asked a specific question pertinent to our case, he didn’t have any answer at all, He was stumped. I didn’t see him pointing to his 3 legal degrees on the wall then. This attorney might know his law and procedure, but it didn’t come across in this client interview. Perhaps his 3 degrees hanging on his office wall neglected to teach him social and interpersonal communication skills with clients– a most certain prerequisite in professional deportment. There was little support here. And he’s way over priced.
