Insanely good and creative sandwiches, best truck in Dewey Square right now. On a mission to eat my way through the menu!

I have to give them 3 stars. They are always sold out of something good by the time I go out for lunch(around 1). It’s usually the potatoes which I have yet to try. Sandwiches are good, albeit inconsistent — sometimes they have different amounts of meat on them, and toppings may be forgotten. but the food is good

These guys stopped by my office and I was lucky enough to get a Porchetta sandwich before they sold out. Wow, just wow. Tender, salty, and incredible. Best pork I’ve had this side of my grandmother’s. HIghly recommend and I will be back!

Awesome Porchetta Sandwich !!! I heard a bit about the process to marinate and grill the pork and the love and care shows in the favor.

We had Pennypackers cater a large corporate event and their team executed flawlessly. The team showed up early and ready to serve amazing food. Every dish was amazing and all the employees had rave reviews. I highly recommend Pennypackers for corporate functions.

Tried their lamb sandwich for lunch = EXCELLENT. This is the type of food that made food trucks popular to begin with. Fresh, creative, well thought out menu items that are well executed. Will definitely be back to try some of their other sandwiches in the future!

Grilled Chicken Sandwich on their April 2015 menu was very disappointing. Overcooked, dry, flavorless chicken(with dark meat… yuck!), arugula(ok), some pea purée spread(bland), and homemade bacon(decent). That was pretty much it. No additional sauce or other items to enhance the experience. Supposedly there was lemon and olive oil but I tasted none of it. Ended up being very dry and monotonous. The bread was good but this sandwich overall was so below par. Will not be ordering it ever again. Another knock is when we went at 1:00PM, almost the entire menu was sold out. They had this sandwich and meat-egg heavy special and that was it. Not what I’d expect during a time that’s still certainly considered the«lunch hour.»

I work on Congress Street near Dewey Square and when I first started working there 3 years ago there were 2 trucks and over the years it seems like more and more trucks started showing up. Enter Pennypacker. It’s not on the menu anymore but I first had the Brussels Sprout Sandwich and it was sooooo good. I’m SO sad it’s not on the menu anymore(I think it was a seasonal item). I also had the Kale Caesar and it’s amazing. It’s not overdressed, the perfect amount of parm is so perfectly shaved, and the croutons… those croutons… crunchy exterior, yet chewy. The next time I went with a friend and he got the buttermilk marinated grilled sandwich and to be honest it was a total let down which is why I’m knocking off a star. The bread/chicken ratio was totally off when we opened the box we were like I think there was supposed to be chicken in this sandwich. What chicken he had was on the dry side. But anyways, the kale salad is so good I’ll definitely be picking it up on a regular basis.

The most impressive restaurants(and food trucks) are the ones that make food«I don’t like» taste incredible. That’s exactly what pennypackers does. I never ask them to hold the onions or whatever, because they make everything just amazing. Pennypackers, you make me look forward to Mondays. I love you. I’m *in love* with you. I’ve had the grilled chicken sandwich a few times, which sounds boring but incorporates complex flavors and quickly becomes the best sandwich you’ve ever had. Celery root was the weird thing in that sandwich that I almost asked them to hold, but it brought a subtle taste and excellent texture to the sandwich. I also had the meatloaf sandwich a couple times. Normally I wouldn’t have strayed from the chicken because it’s so good, but they change up the menu regularly, which kind of forces you to have some variety. The meatloaf is the best too. Pickled onions, an egg, spicy aioli, and a hearty fancy meatloaf on really good bread. Their signature sandwich is the porchetta. To be honest, I ordered it because they didn’t have what I really wanted, and I was like, «I’m going to hate this, they can’t possibly make a pork belly I’m going to enjoy.» I was nervous about it because pork belly is kinda gross, let’s get real. It’s fatty and the texture is weird and it just tastes a little off to me. Not at Pennypackers. I don’t know how they do it, maybe they lace a little black tar heroin in there. But the waves of «holy shit, this is so good» are constant. Go there, try something new, and enjoy how those happy tears feel as they roll down your cheeks.

very long waits, even with short lines. how does it take 10 min to make a sandwich? That said, the meatloaf sandwich is pretty good. I’ll be back when you stop wasting my time.

Recently had one of the BEST sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. The grilled chicken, cranberry and sausage stuffing sandwich with Apple Rosemary purée. I was a little nervous about the purée but DAMN! So. Freaking. Good. The only reason I take 1 star away is because I ordered the farro salad and it was quite tasteless. It only tasted like oil? But that sandwich… Soooooooo good! You can tell they have some truly talented chefs aboard this food truck!

I had Pennypackers cater my backyard wedding this weekend and I am blown away by the experience! The food(as you probably know) was fantastic. Everybody raved(and is still raving) about how great the good was! I’m a vegetarian, with vegan and carnivorous friends and EVERYBODY was pleased with the food. My carnivore friends said they were«surprised that we had such amazing meat selections!» The menu was: Farm fresh salad(brussel sprouts, grapes. yum), Beef Brisket, Chicken quarters with a variety of BBQ sauces, Korean BBQ tofu, stuffed peppers, savory bread pudding(so. so. so. good). They were also extremely professional. They showed up on-time, cooked the food on the premise in their truck, put out the food, wrapped up the food, cleaned off tables, removed trash, brewed coffee, placed desserts out, cut the cake. etc. They literally did ANYTHING I asked of them with a smile! Not to mention they are such cool doods, we wanted them to stay and hang out with us! The only thing is that since they are such a small shop run by two brothers; replies to e-mail was not super fast. But, as long as you know this going into it you will NOT be disappointed. I have turned people on to the Pennypackers food and I know a bunch of people who will be visiting the truck and the store after eating their amazing food at my wedding. I’M SOHAPPY with them and you will be too! Thank you again!

Food is decent. Sometimes great. However, the wait(while not the fault of Pennypackers, is part of the experience and therefore valid), has become unreasonable. Even if you place an order by phone at 11:20, you still wait a while once you arrive. At that point it may not be worth the food even if it is decent. Another thing: I ordered a salad and they delivered a salad with chicken. I didn’t find out until I got back to my workplace. When I went to exchange it, they gave me yet a different salad altogether, not what I ordered to begin with. The third time they finally got it right. It’s not that hard to get a food order right. I realize that you guys get busy, but my time is worth more than this kind of hassle. From now on, I bring my own lunches.

Omgosh — the Porchetta sandwich is something I wish I could eat everyday. The time I went I was hanging over a little and it couldn’t have been a better cure. The guys working the window was super nice too especially when I requested to not get the pickled peppers and just get onions and the apple purée that they had… MMMMMMM :) I can’t wait to get another one.

Tried the $ 8 Porchetta sandwich and it was pretty decent. The porchetta itself was flavorful and well-cooked, and the addition of spinach made it light. The description mentioned an included smokey tomato component(jus? jam? can’t remember) but I didn’t taste any, which is a bummer because I thought the sandwich could have definitely used some kind of sauce or jam to bring it all together and save it from being too dry… they either forgot to put it on, or it was so light I didn’t notice it. It was a solid sandwich as-is, but could have been really tasty with that sauce-y extra.

Pennypackers is one of the only dining options near my work(I work on Drydock Ave). Some of my coworkers eats there literally every day! That’s because: IT’S GOOD. Some of my favorites are their ceasar salad(it’s VERY good) and their short rib mac and cheese. I don’t buy lunch very option, but I’ve been eyeing their breakfast sandwiches(for lunch). They sound delicious. I tasted some of my coworker’s Curried Egg Salad, and while not being a fan of either curry or egg salad, I will say it was delicious! It comes on a soft roll with a shiny top, like a homemade hamburger bun? I have also tasted their chili, and found it quite good! Complaints have been: really slow service, really really fatty porchetta, and burnt tacos. It’s also hard to discern when they stop taking text or call orders, so I’ve had coworkers text in orders, only to go pick them up… and they never took their order. They offer LevelUp, and usually that gets you a discount on your first purchase!

Pennypackers is my favorite truck, easily. I eat here multiple times/week. They have rotating veg options(and usually some sort of really fancy unique salad), often a chicken or steak or pork combination of options, and some simpler soups and salads. I like that I can eat here nearly every day and still eat something different and unique and healthy each day. Some of my favorites have been a wheatberry plum salad, a sweet potato and greens salad, their mac & cheese, their mushroom risotto, and their steak sandwich is beyond divine. The only thing I haven’t been super impressed with is their tacos, but I think that’s just because I’m more of an authentic-mexican small corn-tortilla kind of gal, as opposed to giant flour tortillas that are kind of cold. Pennypackers has been ousted from their home on St. Mary’s until March when construction is done, and I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a hard month. Counting down the days to their return where I can spend very reasonable dollas on freaking amazing food…

I go to Pennypacker’s at BU almost twice a week. It is located right outside of my office. There is always something different on the menu and I can always count on it to taste good. I love the chicken sandwiches.

I randomly ran into this food truck while biking around Boston(on one of the amazing Hubway rental bikes!). They didn’t have many vegan options(aside from the broccoli rabe with garlic) but were very eager to accommodate. They had a kale salad sandwich with cheese so I got it without the cheese. To liven it up a bit, they added fig jam. I was expecting it to be pretty bland but it had a really great flavor. If it had some sort of cashew dip or lentil/walnut pâté, it would be incredible! The broccoli rabe was good but not great. But then again, I’m not the biggest fan of that veggie, I just figured it would be a healthy addition. :)

Take a bite of the Porchetta sandwich(one of the only constants). Sink your teeth through the strata of grilled bread, whole-grain mustard, and broccoli rabe. Meet the pork, crunch into the pork. Then, smooth; a never ending water slide of savoriness. Exit, chew, understand, repeat. The menu is constantly changing map. Not only do the sandwiches change, but also their ingredients — constantly permuting, jamming, and working together like the best jazz band you have ever seen. *Note: they also have salads and soup, I only chose to focus on sandwiches because it is my preferred media. They are also good.
