I had dinner here this month and the food was decent(can definitely get just as good if not better Italian in the South End and North End). The service however was TERRIBLE. We were never introduced to our server(several were helping him out apparently) and he seemed highly annoyed to be working that night. No one checked in all night to see how we were doing. I wouldn’t go back to this place if you payed me.

Went here last night with my hubbie… We shared the Caesar salad with anchovies and grilled calamari salad– both outstanding could not fault! I had the fried scallops fries and onion rings, their coleslaw is to die for! Hubbie had surf and turf! Nice atmosphere very laid back non pretentious which is always a plus. Defo would return.

Good lawd, this place is good! A truly delicious gem in Davis just between the painted burro and rosebud’s. The décor doesn’t quite match the menu or vibe at all, so don’t be fooled when you look through the window! Super clean and cozy, perfect for a date night. The food and service were amazing. We had the crab cakes(melt in your mouth), lobster fra diavolo(spicy and soso good) and the frutti di mare which you can choose the broth for. Everything is made to order so you can ask for varying degrees of spiciness! Hellooooo, killer customer service! We were way too full for dessert, but I have my eye on the tiramisu for next time.

Dinner here on Monday was great. The place looked busy but not crowded. The calamari appetizer was enough for 2. The calamari was crunchy but mostly tubes. we were not big fans of the dipping sauce. My date had the fried scallops, fries, onion rings and cole slaw. It was plenty and well enjoyed. We hated the 2 $ can of coke. Our wonderful server, Lydia, recommended the grilled Cajun swordfish. It was grilled perfectly served over risotto and topped with a tasty white wine sauce with sundries tomatoes and mushrooms. Steve poured up one of their signature drinks, Out of the Bluetini. It was one of the best martinis I’ve had in the area. I do recommend a reservation especially for weekends.

Want traditional Italian/Mediterranean pasta with seafood or seafood in general, this is it. The menu is a throwback and tribute to traditional dishes that are oddly hard to find now. Having worked as a chef in a restaurant with many parallel dishes, I’m intimately familiar with the fare. I got the ½ lobster fra diavolo and it was just perfectly executed. Basically a bowl of assorted seafood served over pasta in fra diavolo(spicy red sauce). Dishes like this are simple to construct but also very subtle. There are so few components so the execution and the freshness and quality of the products used is critical. A lot of words, but this was just as good as it can get. The apps were great as well, ordered up some clams casino, again, a classic, and they do it really well. The stuffed squid fra diavolo is also really tasty. Portions are large, service is solid, for the quality of the product, the prices are reasonable too, check it out. I’ll be back.

This place is amazing. I went here with some friends, and we all loved our food. I got the stuffed lobster, and it was absolutely delicious. The seafood was very fresh, and the portions were very generous. It may not be the cheapest seafood to be found, but it is definitely worth every penny. Most dishes are between $ 20 and $ 30, so be prepared to spend some cash on it. The service was also excellent. They were very attentive and very helpful. I would definitely suggest going, if you’re looking for some good seafood. It’s good for a date night, but I think it would be more fun with a group of people. I definitely plan on going back!

This is the best restaurant in Davis Sq. no contest. Oysters are a must, shucked perfectly so you don’t need to worry about breaking a crown and ice cold!!! Yum! Service can’t be beat, it’s laid back and very nice at the same time. The owner even waits tables which in my opinion says it all. This is the type of place I feel comfortable eating alone at the bar. I usually order mussels bc I can’t do gluten, delicious. The grilled fish is e exceptional as well.

I don’t know why I can always immediately get a table when I go here — this place should always be packed, because it’s the best restaurant in Davis! Whenever friends and family are in town I always take them here. Authentic Italian seafood pasta — the perfect comfort food for cold evenings. Please, ignore this review so I can continue to always get a table! Very friendly but no-nonsense Italian staff who will tell you what’s good if you’re indecisive. The wall is a beautiful painting of sand and waves. The lights flicker to make you feel like you’re eating on a ship at sea, which is both distracting and charming. The food is extremely simple but somehow full of flavor that takes years to perfect at home. Pick a seafood(shrimp? scallops?) and one of several sauces, and that’s all you need to do to get a delicious meal. I’d get anything with that spicy red sauce, especially.

Awesome food! They range from bar-food type fried dishes, as well pasta dishes and the like. It feels a little fancier than average for Davis Square but it’s solid.

Incredible food! Pastas are out of this world, sauces are extremely flavorful, and most importantly of all the seafood is super fresh! I love eating here when I’m in town.

One of our favorite seafood restaurants. The seafood is always fresh. I especially love their haddock and salmon dishes, and their calamari is delicious! Great menu selection as well.

Returned to one of our old neighborhood favorites when we visited Somerville 8 years after moving out. Had a delicious whole dorado on top of a sauce made out of tomatoes, olives and capers. Fish and sauce were delicious. My wife had a tasty snapper filet with asparagus and sweet potatoes. While the boys devoured their pasta with vegetables. Out of the blue remains a friendly neighborhood restaurant with great food, warm service and reasonable prices

Well a few months ago, I probably would have told you, if you want seafood, forget about going anywhere else. Out of the Blue is the Best! We not after Thursday night. It was just ok, not great! We thought they changed chefs. Was not the case. We’ve all agreed they changed the quality of the food. Calamari(lg) was skimpy. My grandson loves the tentacles. We counted 2. Large rubbery rings were rubbery. Clams casinos were dry. Whatever you do, do not order the crab cake app, gooey, blob mess! I guess we’ll have to go to Legals for seafood. Our little gem in the rough needs an overhaul.

Having grown up on Cape Cod, my wife and I are always looking for a good authentic seafood restaurant that is not overly priced. We’ve found that place in Out of the Blue. The quality of the food is high but the prices are not. I went recently and had a delicious Mahi-Mahi special for $ 24. The drinks are good and also moderately priced($ 5 glass of Pinot Grigio!). The ambiance is casual-Cape Cod Style. Our server was terrific and attentive to us and our six-year old son who also enjoyed the experience. If you like seafood and don’t want to deal with the circus atmosphere of Jasper White’s and also would like to avoid the absurd price structure of the Summer Shack, Out of the Blue is your place.

My mom and I had a late Sunday night dinner when we were in town to look for apartments. After our amazing meal that night I will be bringing all of my future guests here for an amazing seafood dinner experience. The interior of the restaurant feels very down to earth and they are serious about their reputation as a seafood restaurant. I can’t remember a single item on the menu that didn’t have some kind of seafood in it. The staff was amazing. They were very patient as we kept postponing ordering and when it was time to order they tailored our meal to exactly what we wanted. My mom wanted only a lobster and another shellfish which wasn’t a menu option, but they were very accommodating and she ended up with exactly what she wanted. I had the cioppino and it was chock full of seafood, I ended up having to leave a few shrimp behind there was so much food. As our meal was winding down, instead of rushing us out our waiter stayed and talked to us about the restaurant and its history and when we asked him to take our picture he suggested we take it at the bar and he took some great photos.

Was not sure what to expect once walked in. We had scallops, mussels and clams casino. Mussels & scallops were outstanding, the clams casino was not a favorite. The breadcrumbs were bland & the dish was very oily. Our server was a bit overwhelmed, as he forgot our order and came back a few times to ask what it was. Overall a good experience, wasn’t wow’ed but would consider going back

This was my third visit to Out of the Blue, but my first visit in many years. The restaurant has been a staple of Davis Square since before I can remember, however, I can also remember it being much better than it was last night, as well. We were seated quickly on a Friday night(a plus!), but seated right next to the cold-blocking curtain at the entrance. The curtain was actually touching the entire side of our table, and guests waiting in the makeshift«lounge» would unwittingly lean against our table, bump us, or elbow us through the cloth while we tried to enjoy our appetizers, tasteless French bread(yeah, the bread they serve is pretty bad) and wine. The oysters were perfectly shucked with muscles cut exactly against the shell, plenty of juice, and no errant shell bits — kudos to the oyster shucker. It’s rare to get oysters that excellently prepared, even in high end restaurants. I attempted to relate this information to our server, but he seemed distracted and didn’t understand the praise. Immediately after our entrees were brought out(about 45 minutes after we initially sat down) the hostess came and removed a table from our row, making room to drag our table farther away from the curtain. Normally, I’d be upset about hostesses moving tables mid-meal, but I was so grateful to get away from the curtain, this was a welcome change. My salmon entrée was good, and cooked exactly as I asked it to be cooked(lightly seared, raw center), although the two giant chunks of roasted sweet potato(no butter, no other preparation — just potato) were odd, and not quite as tasty. The red sauce sauce and cheese served with it was also good. We had an interesting table discussion debating over whether or not my boyfriend’s risotto(Italian for«rice») was *actually* made out of rice, perhaps due to a misunderstanding by some Italian-speaking cook. He remembered the risotto fondly from years ago, but was disappointed by how tasteless and odd it was this time. Honestly, it really could have been actual rice. It also came with a red sauce, which was odd. According to our server, red sauce is traditional for risotto(which is completely untrue, according to my experience and a large amount of puzzled research done at the table last night. Risotto is a North Italian dish always served with a white sauce). I could have accepted the odd sauce choice as an inspirational choice by a good chef, however, given the overall terribleness of the dish, it seems like an oversight. After an initially-incorrect dessert order was quickly corrected, we had our dessert(flan and a cannoli) with coffee. The desserts seemed pre-packaged and were served simply, but at $ 6 each, were satisfying. This is an entrée place, not a dessert place! All in all, a solid three stars. There are much better Italian places in the area to go to if you want a $ 100/two people meal, but the dining experience did have some highlights. Next time, I might stick with oysters and wine!

I went yesterday with my student and ordered a clam fettuccine with white wine. It was delicious. The pasta was cooked just right, and the residue of the sauce was perfect for a bread dip. The flavor of the clams came out great and because the clams are of varied sizes I tasted different textures in my pasta. I also loved the bread they gave, which were soft on the inside and just crunchy on the outside. I left a piece of bread in my pasta sauce for a bit and then it was soaked with clams and white wine sauce and it was just delicious. My waitress was awesome and another waiter also came and helped us with refilling our bread. I would definitely, definitely go again.
