We don’t live nearby but would eat here once a week for sure if we did. We always order the whole chicken with an extra side or two. The platter comes with salad and one side. The chicken and all of the sides we’ve had are very good. The sauces seem to be more concentrated now which I like. We even had dessert, a good egg custard. The fruit shake was nothing special, but that’s ok. Next time will try the Peruvian beer.

This place is just so simple but delicious. No frills, just good food. I always get the Peruvian charcoal chicken, best thing on the menu. This time we got rice and a salad. 2 of us split a ½ chicken. Perfect amount of food(we even had some left over).

Chicken wasnt exactly super moist but not too dry either. Good for charcoal, wished it was more moist Loved the quinoa, would prob order that again Beef hearts are ok, i can do without it The corn comes in big pieces which are really chewy and not sweet. The potatoes are normal. Overall id come back if i was in the area, its sorta far but worth it if im craving quinoa, and id give the chicken another shot.

Simple and tasty charcoal roasted chicken. A perfectly roasted chicken can elevate the mainstream fowl to new heights. Was the half chicken I ate at Machu perfect? No, but it was still pretty darn good. It was perfectly seasoned, had a nice roasted flavor, had crispy skin, and was not dry. In terms of juiciness it was fine, but a little bit more moisture on the white meat and it would have been perfect. I enjoyed my side of fried yuccas and the two sauces that they offered, my guess is that they were the creamy Huancaina sauce and the mildly spicy aji salsa. The purple corn drink was as delicious and refreshing as ever. I finished dinner with a pretty dense, but still satisfying slice of tres leches cake. The restaurant is small and casual, but service was very friendly. I had dinner quite late, so the restaurant was not full. I look forward to coming back or ordering takeout soon.

Although it may look pretty simple and casual don’t let it deter you from eating here. Amazing chicken and fried plantains! Our server was delightful and attentive. I ordered the quarter white meat chicken meal which came with a choice of side and a green salad. I chose the fried plantains as my side and they were insanely good. Maybe some of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken was juicy and the skin crisp with the perfect seasoning. The side salad was pretty«meh» and I didn’t care for it. It just seemed like a weird after-thought. I went crazy for the sauces that our server brought out for the table before the meal. I’m not really sure what was in them but one tasted like cilantro and jalapeño. The perfect amount of kick! I would have probably drank that if it were socially acceptable. My boyfriend order a sandwich as opposed to their famous chicken but it was still amazing. The sandwich had steak, a fried egg and plantains. SO good.

I used to love this place and have literally eaten there a hundred times. But I was gone for a year(most of 2015), and when I came back, I found the following: they raised prices. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still cheap, but the food is so simple that I’m not sure it’s worth it that much anymore. They make you pay for sides. They skimp on their tasty green and yellow dressings(the best thing about this place!). I think you now have to pay to have more than one? The service is beyond terrible, especially for takeouts. What happened?

Great food in this no frills place. Much better option than the more expensive Machu Pichu and up to par but different than El Rincón Limeño. Here the specialty is the charcoal chicken and they do a great job with it. But other plates like the grilled churrasco, the beans, rice, plantain are very nicely executed. With a good beer or lime water it is a great dinner at great value. For dessert we had the flan and was delicious.

This is THE place to eat in Union Sq. Forget the new wave yuppie hangouts and come get some Peruvian soul food. Chicken Tacu Tacu. A side of fried plantains if you’re feeling ambitious. You won’t regret it.

Terrible service. — slow — extremely inattentive — very basic cuisine(nothing special) You can walk around the corner and get better service and food in Somerville, and definitely in the city of Boston. Save your money.

One of the most amazing Peruvian resteraunts I’ve been to. The food was GREAt, large portions and very tasty. The menu is small there aren’t a lot of options but the options that are there are well worth it. We had the Peruvian corn on the cob, wmoanadas, half a chicken with their rice, sweet plantains and best of all a mango smoothie and passion fruit juice! I love passion fruit juice and usually can’t drink it from many places but I’d definitely get it again fromm machu. The resteraunt is very average and casual but the food is worth it. Prices are decent and there isn’t much of a wait. The only thing is they got very busy and it was difficult to get the attention of my server to pay the bill. I didn’t try the desserts because I was way too full but it looked great when I saw it on other customers tables. Parking was easy, we parked down the street in metered parking and were fine. Great spot to go to when you’re starving and want a delicious and heavy meal.

Ordered this as delivery and it is ungodly delicious. ½ chicken order with rice wouldn’t even need the sauces, but they bring it to another level. This savory master of chicken seems like it must be incredibly unhealthy in the way it tastes, but it is pure and good for all you health conscious folks out there. All you need to wrap up this meal is an order of the crema volteada and you will sing into the most beautiful heaven. I could eat this meal everyday. And they deliver. Netflix and chill? No way! I won’t share my chicken. Dear restaurant: my only ask. Photos and descriptions for the desserts? I spun the wheel and picked one at random — I’d love to know what else you have.

This is what I need in my life, delicious food at a more than reasonable price. If machu chicken were any closer to my house, I’d probably go broke. The signature chicken is excellent, and the tacu tacu takes no back seat. An unexpected surprise was how good the fresh juices were. Can’t wait to come back!

Man, the chicken is superb here. It’s not even terribly complicated or unique; it’s just well-prepared. The fact that it is so affordable makes me love this place even more. The chicken is definitely the main event, but the fries and fried plantains are delicious. The two sauces they give you are mayo-based, I’m guessing, and KINDA different flavor-wise…I guess. I’m honestly not sure that I could tell the difference between yellow and green if I closed my eyes. Oh well. I’ll have to continue my scientific testing on subsequent visits :) Regardless, that sauce is delicious on anything: chicken, fries, rice. The salad that they give you is pretty lackluster(iceberg, cucumber, obligatory pink tomato). The chicha morada is delicious, and made in-house! If you haven’t tried chicha before, I highly recommend it. It’s a sweet, lightly spiced, fragrant juice made from purple corn, pineapple, apple, cinnamon, and cloves. You don’t taste the corn, it only provides color, from what I can tell. Very refreshing but very sweet. The service is always great.

A truly hidden gem in Union Square. I’m obsessed with their chicken sandwich, which comes on fresh bread, and the juicy meat is marinated so perfectly. It comes with two kinds of sauces(green and yellow) that are so good, I would drink them up in a glass, in a milkshake, in my coffee, etc. ONTOPOFTHAT it’s only $ 6! With fries! Too good to be true? I think not.

After getting a whole chicken delivered from Machu Chicken to my home in Cambridge, I can join most of the other reviewers here in vouching for the tender and flavorful nature of the chicken, which tastes especially good with the accompanying sauces. My sensitive-tongued boyfriend was also worried that the chicken would be spicy and wants it to be known that the chicken is not spicy.

One of my favorite finds in greater Boston. Can’t believe it took me so long to find. Incredibly authentic and greater flavor on all the fixins. Desserts were also tight to def. loved the leche asado and the flan. Service bend over backwards to make sure my family and I had a great experience.

Just experienced this gem for the first time tonight via delivery, and I am thoroughly impressed all around. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the beans were perfectly prepared with a slightly smoky hint. Very pleasant to speak with over the phone to clarify order details. I am already looking forward to the next meal here.

Yum, Peruvian chicken. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a meal that’s as cheap and as satisfying/tasty/healthy-ish as you find at Machu Chicken. For $ 7, you get a quarter chicken(light or dark), a basic salad, a side of your choice(potatoes, quinoa, tacu tacu, fries, plantains), and those delicious yellow and green sauces to slather over everything. The chicken was solid, with tasty herbs slathered over the thin skin, and the golden potatoes were nicely fried and a good accompaniment to the chicken. I think the sauces really make the whole thing though, especially since the chicken meat wasn’t necessarily dry but wasn’t super moist either. I left full, happy, and without a major dent in my wallet– skip the fast food and come here. I had been to Machu Chicken’s older sister Machu Picchu and enjoyed it, and I’m glad to see that its more casual counterpart lived up to the precedent.

This is a Peruvian casual lunch place where the menu goes for simple-but-amazing. Come on in, get some chicken tacu tacu(the chicken is, of course, the star of the show, moist and delicious), maybe some fried plantains, maybe some Peruvian corn or salad. Wash it down with chicha morada(the purple corn drink), Inca Kola, or beer. I like this place a lot, and expect I’ll be seeing a lot more of it(for dine in or take out) now that I’m just around the corner.

My friend and I had a girl date last night after our workout, and we ended up at Machu Chicken because it was close and we wanted to try Peruvian food. The restaurant is cozy, very busy, and the staff was very attentive. We both got the steak sandwich and it was incredible! The bread, they must make it in-house(or they have a bakery nearby). The steak was cooked perfectly, the plantain was super yummy. Just after one bite we both agreed that we would definitely be back!

When it came time to plan our wedding my(now) husband and I wanted something different. JP and I had been going to Machu Chicken on a weekly basis since we moved to Union Square in 2012. I thought it was a long shot, but Rosy and her team agreed to cater our wedding in Cornish, New Hampshire. We were thrilled! Our menu consisted of the roasted chicken, tacu tacu, sweet potatoes, quinoa stew and misky salad(and of course the sauces). For signature drinks they made the most amazing sangria and margaritas and omg the apps were out of this world. My family and friends won’t stop talking about the tequeños :) Rosy/Angelica/Hugo and the rest of the team did such a wonderful job. The Machu team made sure JP and I ate and drank plenty-I wasn’t one of those brides that didn’t eat or drink a thing. They beyond exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait for them to cater future events and cannot recommend them enough. Thank you Machu! xx

The one special day of the week where your stomach leads you to a restaurant, dragging your feet without your mind having control of your body, your taste buds getting sharper by the minute, and your scent of smell being completely taken over, you haven’t seen a sexier and tastier chicken then this… Until you arrive at Machu Chicken! Seriously guys… The taste is amazing, flavorful and juicy, with just the right spices and blends of sauces. I’m in Love.

I got carry out but kind of wish I dined in-the inside looked nice and welcoming and the staff was friendly! I got the seco(?) beef which had beans and rice. This was my first time having Peruvian food and I loved it! The meat was tender and everything was flavorful. 4 stars because I think the portion is a bit small for the price $ 17. If I want Peruvian food again, I’d come back!

I am in LOVE with this place! I ordered the ¼ charcoal chicken(dark meat) and fried plantains. My meal came with a house salad. The food was delicious, my proportions were big and the total cost was only $ 7.50! Also, I forgot the name of the two sauces that are brought over for you to eat with the chicken– but the light green spicy sauce is flavorful and compliments the chicken perfectly! Delicious inexpensive food and fantastic, friendly service?! I’m without a doubt coming back here.

Um yeah. Amazing. I could eat this every day. The rice and beans are cooked perfectly and they are so well priced. A whole roasted chicken for $ 16 with sides? Drool. Chicken is flavorful with a great crunchy top and the sauces are incredible. We always speak Spanish with the waiters but they are always nice to our family and kids. I look forward to eating here each time I go because it never disappoints. Cheap eats at its finest.

My girlfriend and I ate at a Peruvian restaurant in New York for the first time ever last month and we were amazed at how the different flavors and spices used in Peruvian cuisine made a dish so familiar to us taste so different and delicious.(Me being Brazilian and she being Cuban)
This is now our new spot for Peruvian food out here in Boston. The price and quantity of the food is great!

Imagine the crispiest, heartiest, and most flavorful fried chicken you’ve ever sank your teeth into. Really re-experience it. Now try to imagine that chicken with interesting Peruvian spices, accompanied by fried plantains, two harmonious sauces and a purple corn juice you’ve never seen before, all for how much you’d pay for fast food fried chicken. Machu Chicken is a hidden gem! Although it’s obvious that it is not upscale, you shouldn’t have expected that. This is a meal that I could envision being eaten by the side of a construction site or a street stall in Peru. Hearty, cheap, and irresistible.

The chicken is very good. The portions are also very large. We tried a lot of their other meats as well, but unfortunately they weren’t as good as the chicken. Maybe they had an off night or something. In the end, come for the chicken. Get it delivered or taken out. Good food.

Serving fabulous Peruvian charcoal chicken(pollos a la brasa) in Somerville’s Union Square. Option to order ¼, ½, or whole chicken. Get ¼ for a small appetite and ½ for a modest meal. The chicken is roasted with a delicious and glazed skin. The white and dark meat are both extremely tender. Presented with salad and your choice of side. Recommend the fried sweet potato, similar to thick sweet potato chips. If you are not in the mood for chicken, try the flavorful chuleta con chorizo(pork chop with sausage) served with salad, rice and french fries. The pork, served on the bone, has a zesty seasoning. The sausage is very juicy with the perfect texture and spice. Try the two creamy side sauces to add depth to your meats(although perfect on its own, great for variety!)
