When I was 16, I thought that a Wal-Mart moving in to replace what used to be a mile of fields and modest cape homes was the most exciting thing ever. It was like something famous in this nation thought that somersworth, NH was important enough to set up shop here. Now, 20 years later, I try to visit this town without visiting this sprawling plastic wasteland, and I die a little inside each time I get sucked in like a black hole to buy something or other I’ve convinced myself I need. And then I regret it because everyone’s eyes look dead inside.

I don’t care for Walmart but I was out of town and needed some cheap beach towels during the last weeks of August. The people working here were nice and helpful.
