I went here for a wheelchair repair rather than a bike repair, but was so grateful to have found this wonderful place that serviced us quickly, kindly, and affordably. My 12-year-old niece cannot walk so has a wheelchair, which is usually fully serviced by her school, but the wheelchair got a flat tire during summer. Even though her insurance will cover any repairs at a wheelchair repair place, they are impossible to find. After finally finding one, they weren’t sure if insurance would cover it because there needed to be a contract between her specific wheelchair manufacturer and the insurance company and the repair place, so if one wasn’t in place then it would cost $ 120 to fix a flat tire. A place that sells handicap accessible vans directed me to check out Bike N Gear, and I’m so glad for the recommendation. The man who helped us was very kind and helpful. He didn’t even make us take the wheelchair out of the van, but just came right up to the car and fixed it in the van. I can’t comment on other bike services, but if you are in a rare circumstance like us where you need a wheelchair fixed, head over here for $ 20 rather than a wheelchair repair shop which will cost $ 120!

Great shop and the owner and mechanic are nice guys that ride, and will tell you straight if you ask about a particular bike style. I have bought two bike from this shop, easy to work with, fair prices. They usually have what I need, but the place is small, but jam packed with stuff. I bought a seat post clamp, they put it on the bike no charge, and made sure the seat height was correct. It’s also a good place to stop in mid ride just to chat, the owner always asks how the bike is doing, how much I’ve been riding, where I’ve been riding, etc.

What can I say other than that they do great work. I brought in my twelve year old Trek for a tune up after it has not been used in years. The dérailleur’s were all messed up, the breaks were rubbing and it was just out of whack all together. When I got it back, it was shifting perfectly and everything was running as if it was brand new. I would have given five stars but I asked for them to call me if the bike required additional parts or additional labor not included in the $ 69 tune up price. When I got it back the total came to $ 132 with parts and additional labor. Although I got it back in tip top shape, I would have appreciated the call.

I came in again so they could pack my bike for a cross-country move to California. Paid $ 50+tax(good price), but the packing was overdone. Overdone as in they took too many parts off that clearly didn’t need to be taken off for a bike shipment. Really annoying to receive it on the other end looking at almost complete rebuild. Plus, they totally screwed up my brake setup enough so that I had to go buy new cables/housings at a local shop here.

Gary at the bike shop is easy to work with and has a lot of experience helping parents find bikes for children. If you ask them to bring out any of last season’s model you can negotiate a good deal. The bikes are not cheap but they do hold up. Small selection but a great tune up keeps the bike in great working condition.

I bought cycling shoes from Bike N Gear. They had a pretty small selection, but they had what I liked. The store is really small, but has what you need and if you can’t find something they’ll order it for you. The staff is helpful and willing to answer any questions. They have a nice selection of bikes, but only a handful on display due to space limitations. The store is also closed on Wednesdays, so keep that in mind before visiting. I’ve never come here for tune-ups so I can’t comment on that aspect. Overall, not a horrible place to go for general bicycle needs.

Small bike shop with a friendly proprietor in Somerset, NJ. Prior to our July 4th vacation I had my pedal straps replace on my Trek 6500GX, and they re-tired my wife’s Shogun bike. Nice selection of Specialized and Trek bikes. Friendly, competent, real time service for my repairs.
