Archar Seafood

Salmon is our favorite fish. We eat it a couple of times a week and have been doing it for many years. Have gotten it in many, many places over the years. When we moved to Somerset a year and a half ago we hit the jackpot for both wild salmon and farmed salmon.
Amazing fish we have been getting at Archar.

Sushi grade seafood? Oysters? Blue crabs? Virtually anything out of the water? Archar has it. Mike, Frank, and staff supply the best restaurants in the area, as well as anyone who walks in the door. EVERYTHING is fresh, ALWAYS. You can be assured everything in the store was caught within the past day or two, three tops.
We’ve been here at least 30 times in the past 3 months since we’ve found it. Everything isn’t good. It’s GREAT. The prices are better than fair. And Mike is one of the most honest, friendly people you’ll ever meet. He always ensures his customers have an excellent experience and leave happy. It’s true — we always do!
Important NOTE, though — Just ALWAYS CALL AHEAD to ensure he has what you want. He sells out of favorites quickly every day!

It’s not a restaurant :) but it’s a very good seafood store, fresh seafood at good prices and great service. Big selection of crabs, fish and oysters. Very friendly. Some cooked take-​out available.

Best seafood store in the vicinity. I was there at their closing time, but was pleasantly surprised with their service and professionalism.

Very impressed by the staff and food. Seafood was amazing. I placed 2 orders. 1^st order was raw seafood (Clams and mussels) 2^nd order was steamed and seasoned (Shrimp and crabs). Seasoning was amazing !!! Waited about 20 minutes in total, not at all bad when they had about 7 other orders. Will definitely visit again. I cant remember his name but I believe he is the owner, well he is such a gentleman. He carried my order to my car cause I am (very visibly) pregnant. I actually tried to refuse because he walks with a limp but he wouldnt take no for an answer. Love it! More men should take notice! Overall, I would definitely recommend this store. Spoke with some of the other patrons while I waited… most ppl have been coming to this store for years. Nice!

We found Archar Seafood when we were looking for a place to find blue crabs to steam up and eat. Mike and the rest of the guys were such a pleasure to deal with and the crabs they sold us were delicious.

Mike has been my fishmonger for years and I only just thought to leave a review on Unilocal.Archar is a simple place that embodies old school values. Great service, outstanding product, and competitive prices. Mike, the owner, is the kind of person who remembers that I love good soft shell crabs and so he takes the time to call me when they’re in. Sushi grade scallops and tuna? Definitely! Phenomenal oysters? Absolutely! It’s not all about expensive stuff either. There’s plenty of seasonal fare at very reasonable prices. Archar does not disappoint.

Ordered a half bushel of steamed crabs with mild spice and some raw sole – crabs were perfectly cooked for our pick up time, well packaged in a lined planter-​style bucket that’s terrific for bringing to parties (a nicer alternative to large paper bags, if you care about those things), and everything was downright fresh and delicious!!! Fran and Michael are the most nicest and knowledgeable fishmongers around; I must’ve called Fran to change my order at least four times within ten minutes, and he was extremely patient and kind all the while. Michael was very helpful, honest and forthcoming in sharing his opinion and expertise. Overall, this place offers high quality seafood backed by excellent, attentive service. Yeah, we’ll be back for sure!

Great place! Everything was very fresh and reasonably priced. The owner was friendly, funny, and very helpful-​we will certainly be coming back here again and again!

Jumping on the wagon with everyone else… Great fresh seafood & a very personable owner/​operator. The best biz comes from word of mouth, so just read the reviews. Found the place on Unilocal & have been back several times since our first. Halibut… fantastic! Shrimp (coming from a Gulf Coast boy) awesome! Tuna… won’t find it like this at Shop Rite! Definitely a regular spot for me!

The owner and staff couldn’t have been friendlier and they’re the only place for miles with blue crabs available. All the fish appeared to be very fresh and the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back in the future, thanks again!

This place is the best! I’ve been going here since I was a child. They’re the only place in the central nj area that offer blue claw crabs year round! I’m in love!

Not the nicest building or the nicest neighborhood but the staff and fish are great. My cousin asked if I could stop on the way to his house warming party to pick up the fish. When I arrived I discovered that he had bought the place out. Clams, Mussels, Shrimp etc so much! The guys loaded everything in my car for me and the bill was surprisingly not horrible. I went of to the party and we had a solid clam bake.
Don’t let the appearance or location scare you check this place out.

Wow! I’ve been looking for a seafood market since Jensens closed in South River. Archars is everything previous writers said… friendly, knowledgable staff. Michael, the owner, is a sweetheart. The fish, shellfish, lobsters, etc. are so fresh. I bought sea scallops and halibut filet. The guys gave me ways to cook it. I’m a little crazy about getting FRESH AND DELICIOUS seafood. Archars fits the bill. Thanks!

I deal with Mike and his staff on a weekly basis. I purchase fish for a dining service. Mike has an excellent knowledge of fish and will go above and beyond to get you want you want or need. I will only deal with Archar

I was SOO thrilled to find this place! As others said, you would never notice this little non-​descript store unless you were looking for it. But its appearance is deceiving! Their fish is FRESH, delicious, and their prices are extremely reasonable. I work in the health, food, and nutrition field, so I am very picky about the food I buy, particularly fish. Archar’s lives up to all of my expectations. PLUS, the staff there are always super friendly and helpful, so paying them a visit is always a true pleasure. Do not pass this place up!!!

They have EXCELLENT seafood and a knowledgeable staff. The selection is pretty good too. I highly recommend making a special stop here for your seafood instead of getting it from the grocery store. It’s much better quality at pretty reasonable prices.

Don’t let the storefront put you off. This place has very fresh seafood, fresher than the supermarket because they buy from here! Mike & his team really know their fish. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years.
