Great little shop with tons of different fiber types for spinning, many wheels and looms. Big selection of books, some knitting yarns and tools. Made a quick stop in but owner seems very generous with her time and knowledge.

I had one of the best shopping experiences of my life at Village Spinning and Weaving. I was in the market for my first spinning wheel, and made a special weekend trip down here(six hours from my home in Sacramento) because I knew they carried many types of wheels that I could try out, something that was important to me. Ultimately I spent probably eight hours over two days in the store, trying out their many wheels and getting expert advice, as well as some in-depth spinning lessons. With Marsha’s expert and friendly guidance, I chose a beautiful Lendrum wheel and was able to set it up myself and start spinning successfully that evening in my hotel room. I really can’t say enough good things about the owners and their high level of customer service. I felt like Marsha really listened to my needs, was incredibly patient, offered excellent resources and advice, and most important, she really cared about matching me with the right wheel. I wanted a beautiful spinning wheel that I could both travel with and grow with, and I walked out the door with exactly that. Thank you so much! I look forward to my next trip.

Rude! Walked in and was never even acknowledged. Will not wast my time there ever again! There are too many good stores in Solvang, go to Rassmussen’s, upstairs for yarn and crafting supplies.

Seven stars for Village Spinning and Weaving. This is the best store for weaving and spinning supplies on the West Coast. I’ve been shopping here for almost 15 years for quality weaving yarn and equipment. Shipping is very fast and there has never been a glitch with my orders. John and Marsha are super helpful. They do get busy so sometimes when I call I have to wait for them to get back to me, but I always receive a call back with a complete and thorough response. I hope this store stays open for many years to come.

Nice selection of yarn and books. Prices are reasonable for what my wife needed for her crochet projects. We have shopped here several times over the years. The owner is extremely knowledgeable, and she willingly and joyfully shared her expertise with my wife.

Perhaps a little too small for the truly extensive collection of not just fibers and tools, but BOOKS. Not just ANY books, but the books we want to read. I swear, they know each and every book — and they sell hundreds of titles. They have added an adjacent space for demonstrating spinning wheels, and it is wonderful. The most commonly available high quality wheels are there ready to play with. The owner gave me the best lesson in choosing just the right spinning wheel for a novice, and there was absolutely NO pressure to buy. NONE. Seriously. (btw, their prices are the exact same prices you will find online, and they offer free shipping over $ 300, meaning they use drop-shipping and don’t take the shipping profit most other retailers take) She is so knowledgeable and comes across as a very intelligent and devoted teacher(meaning she is no superficial sales lady), so be prepared to learn something. She knows every wheel as if she designed them. She will never guide you to her favorite or most expensive. She wants you to find the wheel that is right FORYOU. Also nice off-the-shelf selection of small and large weaving yarn cones, hand spun/dyed yarns, tools, dyes, and roving with plenty of explanations and support. Generous with expertise and with discounts. It is a destination in itself, but also right in the middle of a very charming tourist family attraction: Solvang California. Make it a weekend!

Quaint yarn/wool/sewing paraphernalia shop with a knowledgeable owner who spent 30 minutes talking to my mom about silk from india and how to recreate a specific part of the pattern on her sweater. I don’t know what this shop is doing in the middle of a random tourist trap town, but it deserves better, and would definitely fare well in the downtown of a small city.

Loved the place which is alive with yarn and the goodies to make things with the yarn. Knit, crochet, weave, spin, felt. You don’t do these things? Go anyway, you will be welcomed and well attended to. The owner taught my granddaughter how to drop spin just out of his good will and eagerness to share and we did not buy the spinner or wool there!

Excellent turnaround time for shipping. Ordered a maintenance kit for my Ashford wheel on Saturday night and received it by Wednesday morning. It was packaged very well and gives me confidence in placing future orders.

We go to this shop every time we visit Solvang because we like to support small businesses. When we got into town last week, I said to my husband, «let’s not go there this time, because the woman there is so unfriendly.» Then we walked past and saw the«yarn sale» signs and got sucked in. Big mistake. My husband was interested in the weaving tools, but when he asked questions about them, she treated him like an idiot wasting her time. I made the mistake of admitting that I had come in to see what yarns were on sale and she sniffed and said, «Oh. That’s why you’re here.» I knit. I am an accomplished knitter. I don’t need her snooty attitude when I am attempting to visit and support a small shop. I’m glad the economy is so good that she can blow off out-of– towners who come to visit her. Bleh. Waste of time, but glad I didn’t waste money.

Wonderful customer service. The owner spent so much time with me to help me make the right selection. He was even about to close and stayed longer so that he could help me! So nice, Thank you so much! When I’m in town I will definitely make a stop at your store again!

While I’m not a knitter, my Aunt is. She had offered to do a spacial knitting project if I found the yarn I wanted her to use, because I wanted her to use a specific kind of textured yarn for the project. That’s when I went to Village Spinning & Weaving Shop. When I arrived one of the shop owners helped me immediately. Boy is a super smart about all the options you have for materials. She pulled out 4 or 5 excellent choices fro me to look at, offered information on 2 more from other sources, and took time to explain all the pros and cons of each option to a guy who was clearly out of his depth when it came to yarn. Wow! I can not recommend this shop more highly for its great selection and outstanding service.

The owner here knows what she’s talking about, and she doesn’t act like a snob. My husband graciously took me here a few days after we were wed. The store is jam packed with all sorts of wondrous wool things. Spinning supplies, hand-dyed yarn, hand-spun yarn, and some of the fancier quivit yarn. Also, if you are in the Los Angeles area, there is a small-sized fiber festival in Torrance that the owner is known to attend. She really sets up shop!

The best customer service and friendly shop in town. A rare treasure. We went in to ask a question about spinning wheels and they took so much time to explain and show us what we needed. Extremely knowledgeable. The shop has a very diverse and large inventory of everything needed for spinning and weaving.

I too would give six stars if possible. I am a knitter and a spinner and came with a friend who is a new spinner interested in purchasing her first wheel. Since I am a novice spinner, I didn’t want to advise my friend on choosing a wheel. It was a little bit of a slow day so we were really able to benefit from the expertise and knowledge of the owners(John and Marsha). They are genuinely concerned about matching you with the best item to suit your needs… not just making a sale. Their love of the hobby is apparent and they are very patient teachers. My friend decided on a wheel and was given a very detailed orientation to the wheel and basic lesson on drafting the fiber and spinning. She was making yarn in no time! We bought a bunch of fiber and went off to our room to practice spinning with the invitation to return the next day for more guidance. We went back the next day and she spun several different fibers with Marsha evaluating her technique and offering helpful advice. With so many amazing fibers, yarns, books, videos and tools we couldn’t leave without each buying another bag of goodies. After all the education and information we got, I am already planning a trip back up to get a new wheel for myself. If you are interested in spinning and getting a wheel and you are close enough to make even a 1 day trip, I highly recommend that you visit Village Spinning and Weaving. If you have no choice but to purchase mail order they do that as well but nothing is as good as trying several wheels and walking out with the one that talks to you. They also carry supplies for knitting, weaving, bobbin lace and felting.
