My wife’s family had been going to Jacques’ restaurant for years before he and his wife left the 4th Pl. location and took a break. When they returned we were really excited to have them back. Over the course of a year we had dinner there 4 times. The first, the day after they opened, was a pretty good visit. The dinning experience at Cabernet Bistro went rapidly downhill after that. We endured poor service and mediocre food for two meals before our last visit. On this evening, my wife ordered a seafood soup as an appetizer, but when it arrived she said it didn’t smell right. I tried it and agreed that the fish didn’t taste right. We discretely brought this to the attention of our waitress who over-dramatically retrieved the soup without any comment. A few minutes later the hostess, Jacques’ wife, came out and berated us in front of the rest of the full dining room. It was her opinion that we were too uncultured to understand that french seafood soup was supposed to smell and taste like spoiled fish. For the rest of the meal, our server treated us like crap. Our food was brought to us cold. I will never return to this restaurant and I recommend you not waste your money. If you’re dying for fine dining, go to Santa Barbara. If you want a great meal, there are better restaurants in the valley(Mattei’s Tavern, Grappolo, Ballard Inn are all exceptional).

We used to eat here when it was at it’s previous location across the street from the Wine Valley Inn. I’m glad to see they have a new location. Girlfriend(Self proclaimed Queen of Reseda) and I decided to shoot up to Solvang for the 4th of July to see the fireworks and take a break from the rat race that is Los Angeles. Headed out to the Mission where the local Rotary Club puts on the fireworks show, food, beer garden, and jumpy castles for the kids. Turns out it’s freezing cold and windy when we show up. After drinking a cold beer in the shade in the wind, I’m freaking cold! We still have an hour to go before the fireworks. We gotta find shelter and now! We found this new location for the Cabernet Bistro near by. We weren’t dressed for dinner(shorts and tee shirt), wind whipped, and cold when we arrived and asked the hostess if we could just have a drink at the wine bar while we waited it out for the show. She could not have been nicer. True hospitality. The restaurant is really nice inside and it smelled great. After a few glasses of wine we were off. We will return for dinner in the near future. Thanks for treating us so well that night!
