I gave it an extra handicap star cause this is Iowa. Any way, i had the bulgogi. So sad. it was sweet(why!) and not that great. It was 11 bucks for that and not worth it. sorry but lower the prices and you’ll get more than one person in there during lunch time. service was nice though… but i guess since i was the only person there its not that hard to give me attention

I often meet my family in Solon to eat due to the fact that half of us live in Marion and the other half in Iowa city. We heard good thing about Nomis and had to give it a try and I must say the service was great and the food wasn’t bad… Although as we usually do we all gave each others dishes a sample and it seemed as if the sauce used on all of our dishes was the exact same. Again not bad but In my opinion each dish should carry its own unique flavors.

After suffering through another string of mediocre-at-best Asian restaurants around the Iowa City area, I am happy to report that Nomi’s Kitchen in Solon, IA offers some very tasty eats. The menu includes a selection of Chinese and Korean dishes at very reasonable prices. I settled on wonton soup, kimchee, and a Korean dish called chap-chae(a dish of glass noodles, julienned vegetables, mushrooms, and seasoned pork). I was not particularly blown away by the wonton soup, but it was by no means a bad bowl of soup. Let’s just say I’ve had better and we’ll leave it at that. The kimchee on the other hand was fantastic. The owner informed me that Nomi makes the kimchee herself. You really can tell the difference from the jarred stuff at HyVee: Nomi’s kimchee had a very pleasant bright and spicy flavor and the portion was large enough for me to have left-overs for later(huge bonus points for Nomi). The chap-chae was likewise very tasty. The veggies were bright and crunchy, and the pork was tender. The fried rice that accompanied my meal was pretty good too, and was not greasy in the slightest. The portions were generous for the price, which is always nice when the quality of the food is good. I recommend trying Nomi’s Kitchen. I will definitely be returning to sample more of the menu… and to get more of Nomi’s homemade kimchee. :)

Nomi’s is awesome! I tried the scallop and vegetable dinner tonight. It was reasonably priced at 11.00 and had quite a few large scallops. The sauce was delicious and pleasantly spicy(I ordered it that way). There were plenty of vegetables and lots of tasty fried rice. The service was fast and friendly. What struck me was the food quality. Everything was fresh, hot, and beautifully presented. Nomi’s is a litte family run restaurant delivering superb food at a great price. The restaurant has a beautiful décor and it is quiet soothing. Nomi’s is a great place to relax and enjoy a comforting home-cooked asian meal after a hectic day. One unusual note. Nomi’s does not have your usual huge menu of selections. They limit it to a nice variety of expertly prepared dishes. This is, in my opinion, more like a fine oriental dining restaurant despite the friendly and folksy appearance and reasonable prices. It rocks.

Great small town restaurant. Friendly service with delicious Korean and Chinese meals prepared by a lady who grew up in Korea working in her mother’s restaurant. We frequent this place as a family and bring our out of town guests here. They have a delicious gluten free option as well.
