Our room is great. 139 is updated and only a few steps out to the mountain. My wife booked this for my birthday as a SUPRISED and I couldn’t be happier. Everything is great. They offer valet which is perfect. We will come back here and stay here again FORSURE.

The best thing about the Mountain Lodge is the view and the proximity to the mountain. This is an old property and it shows. It was snowing and windy and there were literally snow drifts in our condo, the heaters could not keep up and the inside décor is very dated. We paid up to stay in a more modern place as well. MY family had a great time but for the money there are better options on the mountain.

Let’s start with the check-in… When was the last time you rented a room that used physical keys instead of credit card style locks? Well not only does Mountain Lodge(ML) use these relics, instead of placing the actual room number on the key(like any sane person would do), they use some random-ass string of characters. So if you happen to forget which room number you’re in after having a few beverages, you’ll get no help from your key. But the keys are merely a symptom of a bigger problem with ML; the entire building is in dire need of renovation. I would guess that the building was built in the 50s and has never seen a major update. Case in point — no central air. Every room has a tiny radiator on it, including all the main hallways. The décor is tacky and random. For example, my room was on the 2nd floor and overlooked an arcade. Suspended above the arcade were ~100 white cushions hanging from strings. I suspect that this was some jerry-rigged attempt at muffling the sound from the arcade. But aesthetically it gets an immediate«WTF is that?!» reaction. But perhaps my favorite thing about ML is the wifi. Yes, I know… I’m the loser who can’t be disconnected even for a few days to go skiing. But that’s beside the point. As you may have read, this building is allegedly equipped with Wifi. Hahaha, joke’s on you. Good luck trying to access their mythical wifi. After many attempts to log in, I called the front desk. Their response…“Well now… that must be cuz weze gotta lotta people stayin here now. You cane call this here help desk number”. Called the help desk… no answer. I tried a few more times to login with no luck and just gave up. To add insult to injury, ML must have a lead roof because it’s a cell phone black hole. I actually had to buy a calling card to call home, because, oh yeah… no long distance calls from the room. The long and short of it… this place is a dump; do not stay here. Snowshoe itself is a nice resort, but stay somewhere newer like Allegheny Springs.

Mountain Lodge Condos are one of the original condo buildings at Snowshoe that also lodge a smaller convention center in the basement. On the plus side, it has the largest private parking lot at Snowshoe’s Central Village. It has spectacular views of the slopes. It is literally steps away from the High Speed Quad, Ballhooter lift. And it has easy walking accessibility to literally all the amenities at the resort. On the downside, the units are well-worn, they are small, and the fact that all the units are individually owned, means that they are not standardized. Decorations, appliances, and even layouts are different from one unit to the next. Caveat emptor. If you want to stay at Mountain Lodge, ask for the web site with pictures of the unit before you go there.

Note that I’m not reviewing Snowshoe Mountain Resorts, but specifically the Mountain Lodge building. My family of four(my brother, two parents, and myself) stayed here this winter break. This lodge has two features: 1) It’s right at the top of the hills. 2) It’s right near the village. Other than that, I have to say… this place blows. The«condos» are barely passable hotel rooms, except unlike with hotel rooms, you have to put up with some random person’s terrible decorating taste as these units are actually owned by people who then let the management company rent them out when they aren’t there. Being the four of us, and being that we are solidly middle class, we got a one bedroom that had a living room with a pull out sofa. But the place was so small that this just ended up feeling way too cramped, even though my brother and I were mainly on the slopes all day. I mean, I love my family, but I need a little privacy now and again. I met someone on the lifts who also stayed at the Mountain Lodge and said their experience was so terrible they moved to the Allegheny Lodge next door. Had a good time skiing and hanging out with the fam’, but I won’t be staying here ever again.
