I was a member at the Murfreesboro Y and had just paid the join fee($ 100) a month before they closed. We then went to the Smyrna to transfer like they said we can and told me I had to pay again! I said forget it that is crazy they charge too much to begin with so others can go for free. Dislike this while system, you are better off at Golds Gym for $ 10 a month.

This rating is based on the customer service I have received while trying to cancel my YMCA membership. I would like to cancel my membership because I can no longer afford it and I have stopped going regularly for months. Let me start with saying that when i was able to go to this location regularly, my experiences at this YMCA were great. I had no complaints. I have always been an active person, but I had gained weight and was new to the gym scene. I felt comfortable and welcomed every time I was there to work out. I lost 20 lbs after only a few months of using the facility and eating healthy. So initially everything about joining the YMCA was awesome. The staff at this location were helpful and friendly and the facility is great. I had no complaints. However, it is absolutely ridiculous that they are refusing to cancel my membership over the phone. They are refusing to cancel my membership over the phone because they claim their is no way to validate that I am who I say I am. This is the most unacceptable excuse for not canceling my membership. I should not have to drive to the facility and sign something to cancel my membership. You can validate me over the phone with different identifiers that link me to my account. Companies do it all the time. Get with this century YMCA. My gym membership is not nearly as complex as canceling a credit card, lawn service, cable or internet service; all those things can be done over the phone. Is this a gym thing? Would this happen if I had signed up with a different gym? There is absolutely no reason why you need my signature to stop charging my credit card for a service I no longer use and no longer want. Mostly, I am disappointed with how I was treated for trying to cancel my membership over the phone. I feel the need to mention that I have worked in different types of customer service for the last 15 years of my life. Six of those years I have been in management roles. When I am a paying customer for a service, I do not appreciate being dismissed, and that is what these representatives from two different YMCA location have done. I explained, to both women that I spoke with, why I could not make it into the facility in the next couple days and why I needed the membership canceled immediately and they simply did not care or try to help me. They simply told me «No.» I called the main number for this location and then the main number for all of the YMCA’s in middle TN. Both employees who answered the phone told me «No». The first employee transferred me to a voicemail after I asked to speak with someone in authority above her who could assist me further. I left a message requesting a call back today and have not yet received a call. I am honestly doubtful that I will get a call back. The second woman repeatedly interrupted me as I was briefly(for about about 30 seconds, really that’s it) trying to quickly explain why I needed this dealt with today. This employee referred me back to the facility that I then told her I had just called, who had already refused to assist me with what I was asking. I told her that I had called her with the hopes that I would be able to speak with someone who could assist me further. She said there was nothing she could do to help me. I would have to go to the YMCA where i was a member and sign something to cancel my membership. She advised there is no other way to cancel my membership with out getting a director involved. Then get them on the phone, get them involved! Simplify your internal processes, YMCA. Then, teach your staff to actually care about your customers. I was canceling the membership for now, but I was most likely going to sign up with you again in the future, when I could afford to pay for and have the time to utilize your membership. I will not ever be signing up for your services again after this experience. I find it hard to believe that this process has been so difficult… it’s a gym membership… and I have been paying you money for several months and not using your services at all. I just want to cancel and it should not be this difficult. Shame on you for offering sub-par customer service. Someone in this company does have the authorization to cancel my membership over the phone. I am aware that my small complaint may not have any impact on this corporation. I am aware that I am one more person posting one more bad review on a website based on one bad experience. However, If this is what we can expect as a standard for customer service from the YMCA’s in Middle TN, you may want to rethink giving them your payment information. I’m a frustrated with the lack of customer service I have received today. That is all.

Not all YMCA’s are created equal. The setup of this Y is strange. There is extensive parking, but the space inside of the gym is not used efficiently which makes for a less than stellar experience. However, I mostly went for fitness classes. There was only workout studio in the gym which was located upstairs. The classes seemed to have many subs which made the experience unpredictable. The sauna was small and unisex which was VERY uncomfortable. And the ladies locker room was disgusting. The carpet smelled sour, the lockers were dirty, floors were nasty, and overall the locker room just seemed unsanitary. I have not been back since.

I gave up on the Y after being a member from the opening day. It is more focused on «social responsibility» which just means I have to pay an increasingly higher rate to subsidize other members who pay a much lower rate. The effect is a change in the membership to reflect people who aren’t really there to workout as much as to loiter on the equipment and let their children run around the gym floor. The staff does nothing to curtail either.

I love coming here to work out. The trainers are excellent. The teachers of all the classes I’ve been to are very nice and welcoming and are helpful at adapting the class to each persons specific abilities. The only downside I have seen is that the people working in the youth rooms sometimes don’t engage the kids. They just sit and watch a movie. I know some kids aren’t very receptive and may be shy, but at least ask the kid if they want to play a game. Don’t just sit like a supervisor of a bump on a log. And I also have to say that it’s not all the time this happens! Weekends have been the worst so far

We spend a lot of time at the Y. The kids love going into Y play. I feel like I can trust the people who work there with my children, which us huge! My son was in their MDO program for a year and a half before it unfortunately had to be discontinued. He absolutely loved it and is devastated that he can no longer go. He also played soccer last year and had a great time. I had extremely poor service from the front desk when I originally joined, two years ago. But since then the service has been amazing! I go often enough that I have gotten to know a lot of the staff and I honestly love them all. This Y definitely has a family feel to it and we will continue on going for years to come!

I went in to sign up for a membership and one of the girls asked me to sit at a table and wait which I did. Over a hour later I go back to the desk and apparently she forgot about me. She said they got busy and I should have gone up and said something. Stupid bitch should NOT be working the front desk. I refuse to give you any of my money for that kind of service. I would rather go elsewhere and pay more.

So far, my husband & I are loving the YMCA. We checked out a lot of different fitness facilitates and even thought this was the most expensive, we felt it offered the best bang for our buck. Many classes, always an open machine and the pool is really nice. The only downside is there is no racquet ball court.

I’ve been utilizing the lap pool a lot lately and have to say it’s top notch as well. Though it’s pretty short… 25YARDS, not meters. 76 laps make a miles so you might be there awhile.
