My review is of work done nearly 21 years ago, but I’m bored, it’s late, and I’m surfing. I took my 1980 Datsun 210 here after hearing good things about them, I had a blown head gasket, they did the whole job for $ 485. A lot of money to a 16yr old kid, but for the labor involved, I wouldn’t have touched it back then (I’m a mechanic now). The thing is though, they never replaced the temperature sending unit, (my gauge never moved from ‘C’ ever) and so about a year later, it ran hot again and blew another head gasket. This time I went elsewhere and they did the same job, replaced the sending unit, and even showed me where Cantrell’s had reused a few gaskets, and charged me $ 373. For a kid, saving $ 112, getting more work done and an overall better job, I was happy. I’m sure Cantrell’s would have done the sending unit had it been brought up, but I never even thought to mention it. Still, a good mechanic finds those types of things to point out. After all that’s the reason it blew two gaskets in the first place, I never knew it was running hot.

Maybe the last honest mechanic left. Jerry and his son David run a repair shop in Smyrna. They will do exactly what you ask and no more. They will tell you if you need some other work done, but its always a suggestion, never high pressure.
