This was quite possibly the worst dinner experience I’ve ever had. We called ahead to see if they had tables available on a Saturday, the hostess was friendly on the phone and said they had availability in the bar area. Cool! We showed up around 7 and were seated in the bar. The hostess came back over a minute later and told us «I have a table in the banquet area, I want to seat you guys back there instead of over here, the bar just got really busy and I don’t want you to be ignored!» Sure, no problem! Hostess seats us in back room. Asks us if we want water«yes, thanks!» We wait. Wait some more. There are five other tables seated in the room with us. Nobody acknowledges us, nobody stops by. other staff walk around us. No water. No bread. We wait 20 minutes and decide to go to the bar to order water and beer. My date comes back with a water and two Stellas; both of which were completely flat. Not sort of flat, they looked like apple juice in the glass. Finally someone stops by and asks if we’ve been helped. «Nope». Another person is sent over several minutes later to take our order. We order our entrees and the server exchanges out our beers for a different one on tap she recommended. Yolo something, it wasn’t very good. They bring bread with butter that was kind of weird. It had«fresh minced herbs» mixed into it… I didn’t care for it. I like regular butter. Our salads come out first, mine with the dressing not on the side as I requested, oh well. Not three bites into salad, our entrees come out. Okay. My $ 20 chicken alfredo was pretty bad. The sauce was separated and grainy. The chicken wasn’t overcooked, but it had no flavor. My dates $ 20 gnocchi dish with sun dried tomatoes looked similar to my dish, his sauce was separated and unappetizing. They looked like dishes that could have been good at one time, then you took them home and microwaved them to death. I thought maybe dessert would brighten up things; they only had two things, both chocolate, I said«Why always chocolate» and the server said«Well we had vanilla crème brûlée but we’re sold out». Of course they are. Not only was the food and beer terrible and overpriced, the service was terrible, and the décor is dated. The brown patterned curtains in the dining area bothered me so much for some reason; they almost looked like a tree camouflage pattern. Never ever coming back here, the server was well aware of our poor experience and nobody did anything to try to fix it. What a waste, this place could be really cool. Not to mention a server dropped cash on the floor as she was walking by, didn’t even notice, and my date got up from the table to grab it under a chair at a nearby table and give it to her.

Very nice staff although seemed untrained. Food is just ok and plates not hot. We had brunch and it was a bit below average. Music was awful; wrong genre for brunch(Credence Clearwater Revival stuff.) Air freshener in women’s room was overwhelming; couldn’t breathe. Seems like the experience could be so much better…

first off, i think the old menu was better. went for the first time since the new owner and was not impressed. mozzarella sticks are excellent, side salad… not a fan. the beef stroganoff looks like dog food out of can and mixed with penne pasta. the spaghetti and meatballs isn’t much better. the sauce tastes like something from a store, nothing special. the meatballs are dry, like they were cooked earlier, frozen and re heated by a microwave, aka, chef Mic. the cheap quality pasta dishes are not even close to be worth the $ 20 price tag! i’ve always enjoyed the scenery with outside deck and music, maybe stick with simple, like a hamburger and the deep fryed appetizers…

Wow… if you haven’t been here since the new owners took over, it is a MUST! Stopped here for lunch. I had the Beet Napoleon… beautifully presented. It was worthy of a picture in Bön Appetit magazine. The textures and tastes were perfection on the palate. My dining partner ordered their wedge salad. It too was visually stunning and more like a deconstructed Cobb salad with all the extras. The service was efficient, friendly, and attentive. The natural setting surrounded by oaks and away from the rush of the city, made this a perfect place to relax and enjoy good food and good company. We will definitely be back!

We came for dinner hoping for improvement with the new owners. Our meal was great; large flavorful hamburger served hot! Salmon dish was very flavorful, grilled veggies were still a bit crisp(perfect) and real mashed potatoes — served hot! Very attentive service from Taylor and Richie. We’ll be back. 3 ½ stars.

Fresh, homemade food in an old historic building. Had the lambshamk special for Wed. Nice house salad came with the special. Lamb was moist and tender on a bed of pepperadel noodles. Generous portions, friendly, fast service. Will make this a regular visit when we are in Sacto area.

We were looking forward to having Company Christmas Party at the New Old Sloughhouse Inn as my husband used to frequent there back in the day. It used to be the«go to place» for him and alot of our friends. The atmosphere was always inviting and a place we used to very much enjoy for its food and spirits. We all got there(about 15 of us) and were promptly seated.(we had made reservations 2weeks prior) they had our table set up and ready & also a small table was made available for us all to lay gifts on, The waitress was prompt and friendly enough. Got us all drinks and Ordorvs… everyone seemed to enjoy them… except the chicken wings were raw toward the bone. The fried pickles, onions, mussels were all ok… Then the main lunch was served(it came out in relatively short time) the only problem was that most of us were brought our lunch with 2 of the guys not getting theirs. After 15 minutes I went back to ask about their lunch as it started getting awkward… it was another 5 – 7 minute After that that the chicken sandwich was finally brought out. This alone would have been tolerable… but along with the greasy, poor quality of the food, desserts that make you wish you hadnt ordered them & the fact that they were out of multible items we tried to order, not keeping coffee cups full or coming by to make sure everything is ok… it makes one wonder how serious they are in running a resturaunt? Where was the quality control…

Our office had its Christmas party in the private room. It was decorated with a lovely Christmas tree. The room was cozy and comfortable without feeling crowded. The service was excellent. Betsy’s food was delicious as always. She went the extra mile and arranged for Dickens Carolers to sing for us. They were in costume and their voices were good enough for Broadway. It was my favorite Holiday Party ever.

Started with salads and they knocked it out of the park! My wife’s wedge salad was gigantic and had a rich, creamy, homemade, blue cheese dressing My beet salad was a culinary work of art for which I would return to have by itself! Lorie’s pesto fettuccini was, again, rich with creamy, homemade goodness. My prime rib was amazing. The au jus had a deep, satisfying broth flavor and I mixed it with an unusually creamy and not too hot home made horse radish sauce. Jen and Tanya were friendly, attentive, and added a warm touch to our experience. Betsy, the owner, stopped by and regaled us with the history of her newly acquired restaurant. PLEASEREADTHISIFNOTHINGELSE!!! If you’ve had a negative experience in the past, please give the Slough House another try. Betsy has done a Herculean job at refurbishing and improving this historic restaurant. She’s only had it since April 2015 so anything written before that is old news. Enjoy my friends. What a great experience!

Last year had two bad experiences and did not go back. But I was told by a friend there was new ownership or management. Tried again in October and was very pleased. We ate in the bar area so the bartender was our server. But she was great and the food quality is great now. Really recommend you try again if you had bad experience last year.

Let’s be clear, the food here has become 5 star since Betsy took over(in April?). We had a group of about 15 on a Friday. We were seated and the service started out great. Our waiter(Rich?) seemed a bit green but had a great attitude and was quite attentive. Our dinners(a fair sampling of their menu across our group) were uniformly well received. One problem was that a few of our group wanted gluten free entrees which the website menu had touted. They didn’t exist and we were told that the menu on the website had not been updated. However the second half of the dinner, the service went to hell. It was difficult to get a waiters attention. The worst part: When we were done and ready to leave it took literally 30 minutes to get the check. Waiter was no where in sight and repeated requests for the tab to anyone who would listen, were pretty much ignored. Result: Service gets only one star. One oddity that I would change: The parking lot has plenty of space but all the closest spaces had signs reserving them for the employees. Customer parking is farther away. This certainly defies good customer sensitivity. We’ll be back, the food is great. Hopefully the service bugs will be worked out.

I grew up in the area and wanted to come back to the restaurant that I have so many great memories. From the minute we walked in the tension between the staff was obvious. The whole dining experience made us uneasy. Couldn’t wait to leave. Too bad because the setting and the area are the attraction. No plans to return.

Wow, safe your money. From the minute we walked in to the over an hour it took for lunch it was lackluster. We asked if we could sit on the patio and the hostess barked no, only bar seating. Another staff member said we could. Our waiter although friendly either not properly trained or should just look for another line of work. He did not know the beer list. He had to leave us twice to go ask. After 30 minutes we got our appetizer but had to ask for plates and forks. The new menu is mediocre. Our waiter got our orders mixed up. The pork sliders were overly sweet with BBQ sauce. My friends burgers were just okay. The fried pickles are whole pickles and not chips. To end the dining experience we had to ask for a pen to sign out check. I have visited this place when it was under different management and had a totally different experience. Oh, and bring a flashlight to use the bathroom

Came for drinks and snacks last Saturday around 5. We were told that the patio was full and without a reservation we needed to sit in the bar until something opened up. So, we sat in the bar. We ordered our drinks and we asked if we could order some appetizers and the server said she would send someone over. After 15 minutes, we looked outside to see multiple open tables to I asked if I could just take two of the Adirondack Chairs but they were still chained together. One of the managers, a tall African-American woman, was very polite in trying to get them undone for us but had no help. Where’s the new owner? We finally get a table and it turns out the server has a full station inside and was asked to help ONE table on the patio. Seriously poor management. We ordered the popcorn for $ 5 and it was about a handful of Cracker Jacks on a plate. Then we got a Caesar salad. It was a tiny plate of salad for $ 10. We got the mussels and it was another tiny plate for $ 12. We got on more appetizer but it was so forgettable I can’t remember what it was. With 4 apps and two drinks, the bill was $ 56.00. For way below average food. We won’t be back until this owner goes under and they find someone who knows how to run a restaurant. And by the way, tell your skanky bartenders it’s not good business to hit on male patrons INFRONTOFTHEIRWIVES. Super trashy.

It use to be good; there are new owners now and it went downhill. We were greeted right away on a early Sunday afternoon, we were offered a bar table or dinning room. We decided on the bar. We waited and waited while other people came in and were served. I finally went up to the bar and the bartender said I will be right with you and went off to serve someone else that came in after us. We went back the the hostess and were seated. The service in the restaurant part was much better. We both ordered caesar salads, one with chicken and one with shrimp. Our waitress did not bring the salads out, the water boy did. Both were chicken! They said they were out of shrimp! So you just decided I would just have to eat chicken? There was almost no dressing and the chicken was dry as could be. The salads were dinner salad size and way over priced. I later over heard the other people being told that they were out of this or that. It appears as if the owners want it to be an upscale place; but didn’t hire the right people to run it or work there. Over all not a good experience at all. The bread was good.

I have been to the Old Sloughhouse Inn twice now since it has opened. Both times we were greeted and seated immediately. Service was prompt and knowledgeable. The selection of fresh, healthy ingredients at fair prices were refreshing. The second time we dined there we brought out 3 year old and 1 year old. The environment was fine for kids. I cannot wait for summertime to sit on the deck and listen to live music! I’ll be back many more times before then of course!
