Hands down. The best brunch in town. Everything we ordered was delicious! I love how all the food came out hot and fresh. Server being nice & patient was a big plus! If you’re looking for a local/neighborhood restaurant, this place should be one of your top 5 picks. Great atmosphere. good eats!!! Definitely coming back.

What S&H lacks in size and fanciness it more than makes up in atmosphere and food. S&H is a small and unassuming place. It’s so unassuming that I have passed it probably hundreds of times without giving it a second look. The other day I was in the mood for breakfast and I wanted to try something new and when I searched Unilocal, this place popped up. «Oh Yeah», I thought. «That’s that little place with good eats in their name. If they put it on their sign, it must be true». Well I am here to tell you that it is true. This place has a great breakfast. The dining area is small. I think I counted seven tables of varying sizes, but I’d bet no more than 25 people could dine here at once. When I walked in it was packed and the only table available was right by the door and dirty. The waitress cleaned it quickly and down I sat. Service was prompt, friendly and I was made to feel like a regular. Since I was alone I had time to eavesdrop on the other tables which is always a nice accompaniment to people watching. Conversations ranged from firemen discussing recent calls they handled to old men discussing the recent gubernatorial election. I got the feeling that everyone in there, but me was a long time regular. Food was good to great. My western omelet had the perfect egg to stuffing ratio and was cooked perfectly. Omelets can be made many different ways, but this one was made just the way I like it. I opted for a side of a biscuit with gravy and home fries. The home fries were good, but not as amazing as the omelet. The biscuit and gravy was very good and should be something every red blooded american should try once in their life. What have I learned from this great experience? Next time I’m driving along and notice a small unassuming restaurant, I won’t just pass it by. I also know that I will be back to S&H sooner rather than later.

I came on a weekday and unfortunately just missed breakfast, but we got lunch instead. The food we got was good! I got the chicken fried chicken with country gravy, and it was tasty. I didn’t like the green beans it came with; they were bland and not worth eating. However, the chicken itself was very good, as were the potatoes. I’d love to come back for the breakfast.

Hands down best breakfast we’ve had in Slidell! It’s small and I can see they could easily have a long wait but we got lucky this morning. The poor mans breakfast, the scrambled mess, the biscuit with bacon, biscuits and gravy: all items I will be ordering again! So glad we came here today after the debacle that was yesterday’s breakfast at la pines café(do not, I repeat do not go there). Such opposites: here everything is made fresh and is delicious, no obvious mass produced food. Great prices and large portions!

Wonderful place for breakfast and lunch. Food is EXCELLENT, the service is GREAT and the prices are very reasonable. Biscuits are handmade and delicious. Everything is served very quickly and hot. The build a lunch is a great value Entrée, two sides and a desert for $ 7.00. The only challenge is it’s a small place and only seats about 25 people but maybe that’s also what keeps everything good.

Biscuits and gravy… Sooooo good! 3.99! Super fluffy homemade biscuits with thick, flavorful gravy! The breakfast burrito is amazing too. Love this little place! Can’t go wrong! I’ll try their lunch one day!

«Fresh and honest» is the phrase my brother uses to describe this restaurant. I would have to agree; everything coming out if the kitchen is freshly prepared(except the longer prep items like gumbo and bread pudding). The building doesn’t look like much from the outside, except it does have a small porch, big enough to get in out of the rain. Paul C. and others call it a «hole-in-the-wall, and I have to agree; but I had no idea there is an ACTUALHOLEINTHEWALL(I will add the photo). It seems a truck backed into the building, so the owners did a temporary fix. While I would like a few other niceties like homemade local jellies and and such, instead of the«fresh off the Sysco truck» packets, it’s an acceptable compromise. The main disadvantage is, the few tables; it is difficult to find a spot during popular times. But the prices are great, considering the good quality of the food. THAT, my friends, is the price you pay, and why I give it five stars. Well, I will make a strong effort to visit S&H the next time I am in town. And I don’t even care if they don’t give me any Green Stamps!

Good home cooking at a great price. The place is small and a bit of a ‘hole in the wall’ but definitely worth a try.

Good home cooking! If you like down home meals, this is the place for you. The red beans and rice is always good and the cornbread is yummy. We eat here at least once per week. Always tasty and nice serving sizes. Slidell is full of chains and that is why this place stands out.

Great food, small down home location with great variety, music, staff and prices. Got a cheeseburger and fries. Kids finished their meals too. Quick service as well! Great road trip stop!

Delicious home cooked food. Can get busy on Sunday morning, but turnover is rapid. I especially like the breakfast burrito!

A tiny hole-in the wall, well off the beaten path, S&H Good Eats Café delivered an excellent breakfast experience. We were making a trip to New Orleans, and dug around to find someplace special for breakfast. Our efforts were rewarded with one of the best breakfasts we’ve had, particularly given the low cost. I had the everything omelette with green chili sauce, side of grits, coffee, and biscuit. Wife had a ham and cheese omelette, kids had pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. Everything came out hot and perfectly prepared. Our check was less than $ 25. The seating is very limited, but the place is cozy and very friendly. 10 tables inside, 2 outside, only one table that would seat more than 4(the«big table», which seated 8, had a long wait). Our waitress knew the folks on either side of us by name, and we were made to feel right at home. I was able to see into the kitchen, and the single cook put on a show over the griddle. If you are passing through to New Orleans, S&H is definitely worth the detour for breakfast.

Yea… I went there because of the Unilocal reviews. They give you lots of food. It’s great breakfast food. Bread pudding was good too. Other than saying that everyone is nice, small eating area — MAYBE a dozen tables — so I imagine it can get busy. Also, if you google directions it takes you on the wrong end of Gause — it’s towards the Northshore Mall end of Gause — not towards the I-10 area of Gause. This is local country place to dine. I enjoyed it and would go more often if it was closer.

Great prices, great food, awesome service. I got food to go but the staff was very friendly and helpful, even let me try the potato salad to make sure I liked it before Ordering it, it was great! Some of the best I’ve had. I ordered the build your own lunch which was an entrée, two sides and dessert for 6.99! I got the ham and cheese croissant, great flavor, with gumbo and potato salad as the sides and bread pudding. So much food I couldn’t even come close to eating it all! Everything was very good, I will be back! :)

I’ve been there several times. Food was awesome every time. I’ve had: chicken Parmesan, hamburger steak, meatloaf, country ribs and shoe string onion slices. I highly recommend this place. They are only opened breakfast & lunch. Prices are good & servings are plenty

Service was fast and friendly! Food was good. Typical diner fare. Nothing fancy. Ambience is low key. It’s a little nugget of goodness. Try it! Get in early, they close at 2P.

They have what I want in a breakfast/lunch café, from breakfast burritos smothered in some honest-to-goodness chili and cheese to Poboys and burgers. The prices are very good and the staff is friendly. It’s a small shack too so order take out or expect to wait weekend mornings.
