North Shore Center for the Performing Arts

It’s so nice having such a great performing arts center right in north shore without having to go into the city!
I saw «Butler» here tonight and it was a great show, as all the shows here are. The ushers are extremely pleasant and helpful finding your seat.
There is also ample parking and refreshments are served in lobby.
It’s the kind of theatre where almost every seat is a great seat so know matter where you sit you’ll be in a good spot.
Downside is tickets can be a bit pricey (our 2 seats for the back row were $ 120 together) so be prepared for that. But if you do manage to swing some tickets you’ll forget about the cost once you see the high quality talent on stage!

I have seen the Capitol Steps in Skokie, IL for the past three years with friends. We are big fans and always have fun. I understand that they sometimes repeat songs from the year before. As long as there aren’t too many repeats AND they are timely, no problem. In the show this weekend, we were very disappointed with a couple of the repeated songs because they are so out of date. The one about Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell just didn’t hold up. Worse yet was the one about trying to log in to sign up for Obamacare. That was relevant a couple years ago but it not current at all. It even had a reference to the Octomom, whose fifteen minutes of fame was up years ago. Even if I had been a first timer, these songs would have disappointed me.
This approach seems a little lazy, and disrespectful to the audience. There is so much material this election year. We expected much more fresh material. Needless to say, we won’t be at next year’s show..

Extremely disappointed in our Elvis concert tonight.
Yes, I know the audience would be enthusiastic, loud, etc. but the crazed group of 30 something women behind us were out of control screaming out loud — and I mean cupping their hands and SCREAMING at the top of their lungs!
Approximately a dozen people had to move, leave, etc the concert to flee them. What a waste of $ 100.00 — people were totally disgusted.
One man scolded them when he left, telling them they were bothering everyone and ruining their chance to enjoy the concert too. The obnoxious 4 some responded «they were just having fun.» Well, we all like to have fun — just not some ying yangs screaming in our ear and, violently, kicking our seats
Ironically, as people moved away in anger, their very seats were claimed by the ushers who sat down in them (!) and
chose to ignore the gang from hell right behind them.
Never again!

I loved this place! How great to have a theater close by! I brought my daughter to see The Nutcracker. It was awesome for an 8 year old. So much easier than going downtown. The performance was also great!
Parking was easy. Don’t bother with valet unless you have special needs. I will be going to see more performances here!

This center is amazing — I’m surprised that it took me so long to get here! Our daughter’s ballet recital is in this space, and I’m very pleased with the location. It is beautiful, and yet parking is easy and free. The acoustics are great and seating is comfortable. We look forward to next year’s dance recital already!

It was my first time, and I have to say, this place is a real gem of a performing arts center. I’m very pleased with my overall experience.
I had the pleasure of seeing Northlight’s Funnyman performance, which took place in the smaller theater. Located near Skokie’s Old Orchard mall, I met up with a couple of friends for dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, and then we headed over. Cutting it a bit close to the start time, I was concerned about parking, but nope, it wasn’t an issue. Yes the main lot right outside the arts center was full, but there is a parking ramp, and it had ample parking… and it’s free!
We pulled in, parked right away and headed in. No stress whatsoever. We picked up the tickets, headed in, and took our seats with time to spare. From what I could tell, there is absolutely no bad seat in the house. It’s a lovely small theater.
About the play, the performance of Funnyman was superb and thought-​provoking, with a brilliant set design. I’ll leave my review of the play on the Northlight Theater page.
Lovely experience. Convenient. Professional. I hope to come back here soon.

We saw Capitol Steps here last evening. It was hilarious. Extremely well done, timely and very funny. Can’t wait for next year to go again.
Our seats were in the balcony center and you could see everything. The sound system was very good and you could hear everything well too.
Parking was free which is an added bonus.

The North Shore Center for the Performing Arts is a two-​theater complex — it has an 867-​seat mainstage theater which can also be converted into a 318-​seater. The theater has been around since ’96, and offers a variety of events, such as: the Joffrey Ballet, Bill Cosby, the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and the Twyla Tharp Dance Company. There are also international performances that are actually performed int he native tongue as well (Korean, Polish, Indian, Israeli, Russian, Filipino, Japanese, Romanian, and Ukrainian). In addition, there are arts education events for schools (I saw a performance on Edgar Allen Poe), and a field trip to see a Chinese acrobatic show (ridiculous!). I love how the theater can be converted to make it more intimate, that can cater to your group size as well as for the semi-​independent troupes. You can also rent the space for private events (weddings, conferences, and trade shows).

My first time visiting this venue, and I was beyond impressed. There’s not a bad seat in the house and the acoustics are incredible. Parking is hassle-​free, they offer valet parking, and it’s an easy commute from the tollway. *Note that it is connected to the DoubleTree… otherwise, I would probably have missed it.* I just saw Madeleine Peyroux here and the show was amazing. I’m glad she chose this venue to perform, it was completely optimized for her performance. I will definitely be frequenting this establishment (the upcoming scheduled acts are impressive as well). Highly recommended! My only gripe? Please provide more selection on the beverage selection!

Bought series tickets here to the theatrical productions & enjoyed them thoroughly. Every seat in the house is good! It’s such a pleasure to enjoy good theater on the North Shore instead of always heading down to the city! Highly recommend the productions here!

What a shame I can’t give it no stars. Subscriber to Northlight and went to My Wed. performance and no parking. I was early. Does anyone apology, no. I was told tough luck. Finally got my ticket refunded. Staff was increibly RUDE!

Awesome venue. Not a bad spot in the house. Wonderful acoustics. Parking is easy. Will definitely look for more shows to see here.

I went my whole life up until I was almost 30 never seeing a show here, and then I saw Bela Flek and the Flecktones were playing there, and I wasn’t going to miss this chance to see Victor Wooten perform in my own backyard. The venue was the perfect size, and acoustically sound. Its not smoky or grimy like some other Chicago venues, and the bathrooms are modern and clean. I’ve seen a few plays there in their Northlight Theater adjacent to the room the concert was in, and I am more impressed every time at the staging, and the quality of the theater companies and talent that pass through the venue. I would recommend signing up for their newsletter. There’s always a show I’d like to see there, just not enough time to see them all.

I love the North Shore Center! They have cool shows that are really different. I love the studio theatre, black box vibe. And despite being on the smaller side, they have concessions and bathroom capacity to compete with the big boys!
We saw Stones in His Pockets here the other night… If you’re in for a depressing romp through Hollywood’s impact on Ireland that involves creative staging and impressive acting, you should check it out!

Wonderful theater

We saw a great show here. The theater is nice-​size and parking is ample. Valet is available.
We had difficulty finding the place. MAKE NOTE: it’s attached to the Doubletree hotel. You’ll definitely see their signage first.
I would most definitely go back here, even though its a long way from where I live.

We usually come here about once a year. Usually to see some form of comedy, like a stand up comedian or the Capitol Steps. The theater is small and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. I highly recommend row R.
You can catch some pretty good B list acts here and don’t have to deal with the hassle of city traffic and parking.

This is my second time to see a comedy show that I have seen at the main auditorium. Modern ambiance in the lobby although on a busy night it can get crowded especially when there is a show in the other theater.
The space in the main auditorium is a nice intimate size. The acoustics are also quite good. They have some big names that do small shows and I hope to watch a play in the other theater in the near future.
Parking is also not a problem (it’s free).

All the seats in the house are good seats. You get to see top notch performances and you are so close to the actors that you can totally immerse yourself in the plays. The space is clean and comfortable. Plenty of free parking available. This is the perfect place to enjoy high quality regional or national plays without the hassle of driving to downtown Chicago, paying top money for parking, the play and your meal. You can have a more relaxing experience right here in Skokie with the same cultural and quality experience for half the price.

I’ve been here twice for dance performances, and both times have been lovely experiences. The venue is attractive, the acoustics are good, the sight lines are fine, parking is a breeze and free. Great eats around here, too.
