The people here are so wonderful and friendly. They have a lot of middle eastern spices and foods to choose from. The breads and pastries are incredibly delicious!

I think you need to understand the history of Assyrian people in order to understand the culture. If Assyrian people can’t have their own country; then you better believe if you walk into an Assyrian-run business, you’re going to see a bunch of Assyrian people converging as if they’re all related. Ashtar Food Market seems to be on another level. All of my visits have offered up the same experience. There is always a short conversation at the check out where you’ll witness the store owner briefly catching up on the lives of all of his customers. I can only assume as the conversation isn’t taking place in English. Basically a mini mart for Assyrian foods; Ashtar Market sells their own coffee. I don’t know if it is imported, or if it’s just a regular brand-name coffee, or if it’s the way they grind it so thin. The coffee is to die for. I love drinking coffee when I’m out. If I make it at home it never tastes right. This coffee comes out of my coffee maker tasting the way coffee should. I also love the flavor that comes from the cardamom seeds they grind in with it. There are two kinds of coffee. You will see them behind the counter. Make sure they mix the light and dark coffee together. Enjoy!

Went back again last week. This little store is still just as good, clean, and friendly. Hard to find parking tho — lot was full, and street is permit-only. This time we bought some of their pickled beets(sold at the counter where you pay). Omg delicious!
