We selected Scot Fetrow to build our new custom home after interviewing several contractors. It was apparent after visiting a couple of his finished projects as well as one in progress that his professional expertise and level of integrity were exactly the qualities we were looking to partner with in the construction of our new home. Rarely do you find someone who consistently goes way above and beyond what they are simply contracted to do, with such attention to detail and genuine care. Scot’s reputation is something he takes great pride in and it shows in every aspect of his work. He is a fairly low-key individual, humble and yet absolutely assured of all he does – all great qualities of someone you entrust to build your new home. He was willing to work with us in allowing us to select a sub-contractor or two, something many contractors shy away from. Because I had experience as a journeyman electrician he was open to allowing me to put in a little bit of «sweat-equity» into our home if I wanted. As 2013 progresses we look forward to the completion of our home and will update with any needed comments. Update 5÷30÷13: Half way through construction of our home. Our choice was very well-founded in Scot and his crew – Kevin, Joe and Nick. They are some of the hardest-working talented individuals in building a fine custom home. Our neighbor next door to our new home wrote us recently in an email(entirely unsolicited): «From my perspective the crew of workers on site is one of the hardest working, fastest and steadiest crew of construction workers I have ever observed. They are always there on time in the morning and keep up a steady and unusually rapid pace all day except for breaks. They don’t waste a minute. I would say you are getting great bang for the bucks being paid to them. I don’t know who they are but they impress me no end.» It is hard to get a better endorsement from an impartial party than that. Additionally, we have found that when a mistake was made that was for whatever reason our contractor’s fault(and, it has not happened often) he came out on his own time on the weekend in order to rectify the issue. Also, I have noted that he has bent over backwards to be overly fair in change orders or even«extras» that we may have incurred, all the while trying to minimize the extra expense that we may incur. In our opinion you cannot pay enough for that kind of conscientious attention and keeping your client’s best interests in mind. We are impressed. We hope to be in our new home by October and will keep this updated. Update 10÷3÷13: Never could we have imagined the attention to detail that our contractor and some of the subs have undertaken. The wood stain finishes and lacquer work are simply off the charts. Yes, we are delayed moving in about a month, but that is my fault for we were waiting on some custom etched glass sliding pocket doors from Italy. That said, we hope to be in the first week of Nov. Still not one issue with Scot. He has a level of integrity that preempts a problem. For this we are ever grateful. Update 12÷30÷13: We moved in one month ago. Scot is simply amazing. His attitude is for TOTAL customer satisfaction. He wanted us to live in the home for a month or two before doing the final walk-through. Smart. While there have been a few kinks to work out there is absolutely nothing that we can complain about as these have been only«normal» problems that any new home might experience. Also, Scot and his primary sub-contractors(electrical, cabinets) have said that on our one year anniversary or thereabouts, they will come back and«tune up» those areas that need attention. Again, sign of someone truly interested in a long-term relationship and total satisfaction… their reputation is paramount to them. Our only dissatisfaction has been with the heating and cooling contractor, who has seemed to have less expertise about their product than they should. Their sales arm has a lot of rhetoric and not enough«walk» to match their«talk». The only shining star is that they have good service. Wayne has been so conscientious in solving the«teething problems» of our new(high-end) system.
