This is a favorite spot of my parents in this area, and I understand that standards should be relative in different areas of the country, but I think, even for Sioux City, I would think that there might be other options that could appeal to me more. While they usually belly up to the sushi bar in front of the one sushi chef(that works the entire restaurant of maybe 15 tables) there were not seats available when we arrived for lunch on a Monday. A handful of other tables also walked in around the same time as us. The restaurant is pretty low-key, not really a date ambiance. We ordered hot tea and miso soups. The menu is bare bones. They have the standard nigiri rolls(fish atop rice), and maybe six special maki rolls if that other than the standard maki rolls((see menu picture)) like rainbow roll and dragon roll as well as a handful of appetizers and tempura dishes. The tea came out promptly, the miso soup a little while later. We didn’t hear about any chef specials, and put in the order for our rolls. I thought the pickled radish sounded unique, so I ordered that, and as a group we ordered two spicy tuna rolls, two orders of tuna nigiri, and two orders of yellowtail. About an hour after we checked in, the rolls started rolling out. The pickled radish was okay, but not really flavorful. The spicy tuna rolls were not premade mixed tuna with spicy mayo. There was a dollop of spicy mayo and Sriracha on top of a tuna roll with avocado. The nigiri looked fresh but I didn’t have any of this. All together our meal was around $ 50. That staff was nice enough, and brought out a bowl of ponzu sauce. I just think for lunch an hour wait((which seemed standard since we weren’t told any different by the staff)) when you’re not sitting at the sushi bar and a mediocre list of rolls is just not my cup of green tea.

In comparison to sushi restaurants on the coast and even sushi restaurants in the Minneapolis area, this sushi restaurant is terrible. In comparison to sushi restaurants in Sioux City, this restaurant is okay. The menu was very limited with the selection of fish offered along with the regular and speciality rolls. I also inquired about mixed drinks. I was informed that there is no hard liquor offered. There were only 3 types of wine and a few different beers to choose from. So I stuck with my water and skipped the drinks. I had to wait forever for my food. I almost cancelled my order and walked out. Maybe the owner should have thought twice before firing the original Japanese chefs. When Fuji first opened the owner hired a few Japanese sushi chefs. Once he learned how to make sushi from them, he then fired them.

I came in here with a friend on a Friday night at about 6PM. My friend ordered the Bento box, and I ordered the Sushi Deluxe(10 piece sushi + California roll). Our waitress was incredibly nice and was quick to bring out waters and the green tea. A few minutes later she brought us out Miso soup. About 10 minutes afterwards she brought out the bento box and informed me that my sushi was coming out. After my friend finished his dinner, I still did not receive any sushi or the California roll. A table that sat to the right of us ordered after me and got there food. After seeing this we decided to just go home. After we stood up and went to pay our bill we informed the waitress and owner that we don’t want the sushi anymore. They responded by telling me I was banned from coming back. So essentially after 45 minutes I don’t get my food, and the owner decides that it is my fault. The excuse they gave us is that the other table ordered food that was prepared already(California Roll). There are many things that the owner could have done to remedy the situation: 1) Inform me that the sushi is in the middle of being prepared and is coming out. 2) Give me the California roll portion of my order while he is working on the rest. 3) Bring out a complimentary appetizer, salad, etc. Something I could snack on while my friend enjoys his dinner. Instead he chose the route of banning me from his restaurant. If this is the type of owner and establishment you wish to support, be my guest. Also, I just looked on the website and this restaurant had 10 health code violations. Some of the ones I think are serious are: 1) Keeping rice in an open container on the floor 2) Prep cook not wearing hair restraint 3) Prep cook not washing his hands before placing gloves on Here is a response I received from Fuji Bay after I put my review on Facebook: Thank you for posting our health code violations. We have remedied these. The California rolls were prepared. And I did inform you that your platter was being made. You left 3 minutes later. And unfortunately, you had disrespected San 3 years ago when you placed a Togo order. I know this because I was there when it happened. San has not thought favorably of you since. And anyone who knows him knows he holds a grudge. So when you decided to leave that night he decided to ban you instead of just ignoring or trying to fix the situation. And I want to apologize for the wait. The server should have balanced the cooked food and the sushi order so it would have came out at the same time. We will learn from this. Merry Christmas.

My son and I had lunch there. We had an appetizer, fried pot stickers very good. 2 rolls, 1.) spicy tuna which was aweful. Not spicy, tuna had no flavor, and the sauce they topped it with just did not belong. 2.) Spider roll was excellent, crunchy and very tasty. We also tried octopus and eal. Son really like the eal and I enjoyed the octopus. A good meal not great but very pricy.

I love sushi, and I’m always willing to try new sushi places. Since I’m new to the area, my husband and I went with some friends to this place because we had heard so many good things about it. Unfortunately, this was the first and most definitely the last time we will go. While our server was nice, and our appetizers came out fast, it took ANHOURAND A HALFFOROURFOODTOCOMEOUT!!!(Good thing we ordered those apps, right?) But the server was only bringing out ONEPLATEAT A TIME with about 10 min. in between each plate(mind you, there’s four of us at the table.) THEPLACEWASN’T BUSY!!! Our server gave no explanation or apology. The sushi itself was very bland, poorly assembled, and my friend’s sushi had some questionable pieces that were black and hard in her sushi(it was a California roll). The overall experience was just HORRIBLE! My husband and I will never return. Do yourself a favor and DON’T BOTHERGOINGTHERE!!!

Slightly better than average suishi, but when you take in the dynamics and size of Sioux City it is a pleasant suprise. It will not be the best or the worst suishi you will ever taste. Service is excellent though, just the right mix of being attentive while allowing you time to enjoy your meal and conversate with guest. The decorum of the restaurant is something to be desired for but overall a enjoyable dining experience

I have been eating sushi/sashimi for over 40 years, Fuji Bay(recommended by Hilton!!!), the Sushi was not what we expected!, too much rice, the crab was imitation crab you buy at Walmart for $ 1.95 a lbs!!!, We were greatly disappointed! The food was mediocre and the service was basic, We believe, I made the mistake by ordering the bento box steak instead of sushi, the portions wre very small!!!, & steak was fatty & flooded in BBQ sauce not real teriyaki sauce! ‚. But we did hear that the other items was also mediocre. Good luck if you do make over Fuji Bay!, NOT real sushi/sashimi place!!!

This is a pretty good hidden gem in Sioux City. I was lucky to find it on Unilocal. The food was good and sushi was fresh. The portion sizes are also pretty generous. We sent some of our friends there the other day and they seemed to like it as well. Who knew Sioux City could do sushi…

After eating sushi at other restaurants in Sioux City, we were encouraged by others to try It here because it was supposed to be the best in town; it isn’t! Sushi should be a work of art and not a blah, plain looking roll which is basically tasteless. To add to the pathetic excuse for sushi the service is just as bad. The bottom line is you should look elsewhere if you want delicious sushi in a comfortable atmosphere.

I absolutely adore Fuji Bay. I was not entirely sold on the whole idea of sushi until I came to Fuji Bay, and my absolute favorite is the eel roll. Every time I’ve been there, the service has been wonderful and attentive, making sure that we’re taken care of with frequent refills on water! The location is a little on the smaller side, but I’ve almost always managed to get a good table. Even sitting at the bar near the front of the restaurant is fun because you can watch the sushi being made. Of course it’s going to be a little more on the expensive side, but my boyfriend and I always consider going for sushi at Fuji Bay as a special treat! Whenever I’m craving sushi, it’s always Fuji Bay.

This place is horrible the service is beyond slow, and we waited 45 mins before my colleague got his food, after them taking so long I actually didn’t want to eat. My co worker finally got his food after the long wait I just wanted to get the F out of here.

My family and I are new to the area. While my husband and I are Japanese, having grown up in Japan and eaten sushi our entire lives, we are far from sushi snobs and some of the best sushi places I’ve eaten in have been here in the US! So I was willing to give this place a try. The exterior is nice, the interior is clean and decent, and the staff were attentive. Sushi service was slow but everything else was fine. My gripe with this place was not the fish, which I originally feared would be awful, but the RICE. The rice was NOT how it should be. It’s as if they took over-cooked rice, did zero preparation for it to be sushi rice, and then served it as-is. AWEFUL. Because of the rice, our sushi was painful to eat and I felt completely robbed when I paid the bill. I will not recommend this place to anyone.

We love Fuji Bay, and feel lucky to have a good sushi place in Sioux City. Try their box meal at lunchtime — a nice variety including miso soup. Oh, and add the gyoza appetizer!
