I do not know why this place has the ratings that it does; It was terrible. I ordered the steak chimichanga and asked for no salsa on top. First of all, the chimichanga is fried but mine was not. I received my meal and the chimichanga was soggy and the steak was chewy. Because I asked for no salsa on top, they did not put any thing except for steak and cheese inside. Upon receiving the food, we did not hear from our waiter until we were finished and I asked for the bill. 15 min. later I got the bill with an additional charge of $ 1.50. They charged me for asking for no salsa on top. They should have gave me $ 1.50 off for saving on their side and because the food was terrible. Please do not waste your time, I do not know why they have good reviews. I also tried the one in Anderson. I ordered tacos. They too were terrible. Thought I would give this one a try and now I know, they are all the same.

Overpriced and we felt rushed. There are better Mexican restaurants in the area.

This was the worst restaurant experience that I’ve had in a long time. My husband, our daughter and I walked in on a late Sunday afternoon. It was busy, but there were no customers waiting to be seated ahead of us. As we stood by the doorway, a server walked past us. No greeting, no acknowledgement. Then, a second server. No greeting, no acknowledgement. And a third. Also ignoring is completely. As the fourth employee attempted to walk past with out a word, I stopped her and asked if she could help us. «We’re busy,» she replied. My husband asked is she could seat us or add is to the waiting list. She picked up the pen on the hostess stand, then turned and said that we should go to another restaurant that bigger with more seats. I was stunned. My husband repeated what she said to be sure and she agreed. She put the pen away without asking our names and walked away. I asked another employee her name — Dianna. So, four completely rude and unwelcoming employees and Dianna was the star of the show. I’ve never been treated so poorly. We left, went to a competitor and had a lovely meal.

Good food, fast service and large portions. This isn’t Tex-mex, much more costal Mexican food, but still good. They have great happy hour specials too.

This review is for this exact location: THEBESTMEXICANRESTAURANT! We come here at least once a week. The guys here are the best staff and always treat you like family. The atmosphere is authentic and the place is always packed. Be sure to write your name down on your own as there is no hostess and the staff just looks at the paper for the next guests. The staff is very fast and the work hard. Not the best margaritas… A little on the sweet side but be sure to try the enchiladas blancas!

The food is great just like the one in Haywood road, but the restaurant itself is very small and cramped. Just go to the one on Haywood road!

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I’ve been here a dozen times now I think. The menu has everything you could want and best of all it’s cheap! It’s not the best Mexican food I’ve had, but it seems underpriced. 3 massive enchiladas, rice, and a bowl of beans is about $ 8. That’s not including the fat bowl of chips and bean dip you get for free before your meal comes out. Oh, and the best part is your food comes out within minutes. I guess it’s pretty simple to throw together each meal since Mexican food consists of the same basic ingredients. But it’s awesome that it gets to you so fast. Definitely a place to go during your short lunch break. Did I say that the speed was the best part? I meant to say the section of salsas and sauces is the best part. A dozen or so salsas are available for you to as self serve. They are all very good and some are very creative. One is super smoky and another has peanuts in it. I will continue to be a patron of this establishment for a long time. Everyone I have been served by has gotten a healthy tip due to their fast and friendly service.

Went to Papas and Beer to see if the place had improved but was sadly disapointed. The food is still bland, the salsa’s are still a mystery, and the wait staff has gone down. I don’t think anyone there speaks any english at all. My friend and I ordered two chicken chimicangas and a beer. The waitress only words ever spoken to us was«yes, yes», I think this was the only english she knew. If I had asked her if she were a murderer she would have responded«yes. yes». Food is fairly cheap and plentiful and I think this is the only reason people go there but the rest is a crap shoot. We ordered a second beer but never got it and only a check when we repeatedly asked for it. Not going back again.

We’re from out of town and was passing by and decided to try this place. No wait, sat and ate outside. Service was great, food great and the price was good. The bathroom was a little messy. I believe these other bad reviews were made by implant Yankees from big fancy cities and are a little spoiled at the little local joint. I would return if I was in the area.

Food and service were fine but was underwhelmed with the food. Didn’t seem super clean inside nor was anyone too friendly to us. Wouldn’t dissuade anyone from going, just didn’t love it.

Love this place it never disappoints. Because of this restaurant I’ve started to order Mexican takeout… Never would I do that anywhere else. And that bean dip is such a welcomed addition to start the meal. They even give it to you when you order something to go. Fantastic. The only issue is you need patience. Sometimes the service is slow but have a drink and relax. It’s worth it.

large portions, affordable, family friendly(somewhat loud environment so loud kids blend in). It’s a small place. Good rule of thumb, if the parking lot is full you might want to go somewhere else.

I thought the food was pretty good, but that was about it. The flavor of their beans is amazing. The texture of the rice was good, but it was pretty bland overall. The salsa bar is really neat, but there is nothing explaining the different salsas. So you pretty much have to judge based on sight as to what it is. Everything has tasted good, but I LOVE hot stuff, I’d hate to imagine how someone who can’t handle spice would do. The service was terrible. And I’m 100% sure that if I wasn’t an honorable person I could have walked out and our server not even notice. He did the bare minimum interaction with our table. He got our drink order, disappeared for 5 minutes and then came back to confirm if my husband wanted regular or diet coke. Food comes out. We are sitting pretty still with empty glasses as he passes our table serving other tables. My husband catches him and asks for a box. He brings it, along with a togo drink for my husband(didn’t offer me one). We sit for 10 minutes looking around with our food packed up. Finally my husband asks him for the check. With how many people who were waiting I would have thought getting people out would be a bigger priority.

You’ll want to read this! Ok typically I love Papa’s and Beer but this staff needs training. From coming in the door, to being seated, to ordering and then receiving the food, the service was real real bad. Restaurant is new but still… Come on! We came in the door and were told 15 minutes for our 6 person group. 45 minutes later at least 40 people had been seated ahead of us. I had been told another 15 minutes twice more and then finally we were seated. Placing the drink order was bizarre. My son said sweet tea at least 4x and she kept repeating back unsweet. Then we ordered, that went smoothly. Then the food came. They did not ask what went where and none of us wound up with the right plate in front of us. These plates were too hot for us to pick up and move around. The waitress just stared at me like she could not see me when i asked for a potholder to resolve it. Next another couple of plates came and the Hispanic guy carrying them was basically cursing at us to make room for the plates. It was unbelievably stressful. Food started out ok till my son discovered his chicken quesadilla was mostly raw. I sure hope he doesn’t get sick! There was no apology. It was so stressful. Honestly, go elsewhere. Try Sabrosso on Woodruff Rd. much better!

The new location is so much bigger, the food rocks as usual, however it’s only three days old so there is a bit of chaos. However I love this place and I am so excited the bigger location on Main Street has opened. Here is my tip– best margaritas in town. Happy hour is $ 2– wow! Order two.

I love Mexican food and this is the best in the area. The table side guacamole is awsome. You can never go wrong with there burritos. Tonight I had the Mexican City Tacos. Best tacos of my life bar none. The restaurant is small but the service is great. The bean dip they give you is killer. Try the pumpkin seed salsa.

Steak and pork tacos had outstanding flavor! Chicken was very tender. This place looks like a dive but really puts out quality food. Big glass of beer is really big too.
