PROs– Friendly employees, great service, good pricing, good food. Dim lighting, casual setting, and an old warm feeling of an atmosphere. Service: I was seated immediately, I did not wait long for my food, waitress was very helpful/kind, plates were removed once emptied and glasses stayed filled. Waitress would check up on us in case we needed anything too. For the price, this restaurant is well worth it. All dinners come with soup or salad and a side. CONs– The below cons are why Sutters Mill gets minus 1 star. Old atmosphere, things are outdated, the meals don’t look artistically completed, and it’s not a fine dining experience(casual attire). Conclusion… If your looking for a good place to eat without looking to empress your guy or girl with some magical artist expensive food, this place is it. I have been to top of the line restaurants and for Simi Valley this place is one of the BEST. YES, it beats the chain restaurant Larsens.

Ordered house steak rare, it came cold; asparagus also was cold. Garlic bread was rare — couldn’t find the garlic. Service was fair, no one asked if I enjoyed the meal, so I couldn’t say anything. Won’t go back and you shouldn’t try it.

I wanted so bad for this place to be great. But unfortunately it came in on three stars. When we first walked in we were greeted by a very kind hostess and seated promptly. The waiters and hostess were the best part of this restaurant. Unfortunately the food was just mediocre. Very disappointing.

Food poisoning! I Had the chicken piccata and felt very nauseous quickly after. I was throwing up by the time I got home and all night. Other than that, the food was okay, but definitely not worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend anyone here.

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. This is a 35 minute drive for us but well worth the trip! I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant!

We were seated in a weird section of the restaurant(felt like we were in an addition, trailer) that was off the main dining room. Not sure if this was due to having two children with us, but it wasn’t the best seating arrangement. Our chairs were so close together that we bumped into the next table’s seats when getting in and out. The complimentary sourdough bread was grilled and warm, but just bread and thin. The sourdough garlic toast and cheesy toast were the same toast just with garlic butter, or cheese. They were both tasty, but thin(really toast, not rolls or a thick bread like a baguette). Free entrees for children under 9. I have never seen this before! Such a great treat/surprise for us paying parents, and complimentary coffee with each dessert. Again, a rare treat! Our entrees were a pretty good deal. I ordered maine lobster(it was cooked well and not chewy at all), accompanied by a baked potato and salad(pretty simple lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber slices). My husband had the signature sirloin. I thought it was quite good but it was overcooked(asked for medium but was prepared medium well). Would have received 5 stars based on service alone. Our server was excellent. We returned my daughter’s pasta(very bland and oily) and my father’s onion soup(super salty) and she was gracious and sweet. She also extended the 20% Unilocal check-in discount. Very generous of her.

Service is great. Lots of staff. Ribeye, eh. It wasn’t bad. It just won’t make me come back is all. My uncle liked his filet. They changed the TV for us(we sat by the bar)

Dinner was delicious, filet mignon perfectly cooked, twice baked potato sooo good & the service Josh was outstanding. This is one of those been there forever not a chain kind of a retro feel. Cool place.

Came for my birthday dinner with family and was so disappointed to end up in the«banquet«room. We have been here so many times and love the ambiance of the booths and soft lighting However Josh, our waiter was so accommodating and the food was excellent as usual. Great birthday! Thanks Josh

What a hidden gem! A friend took me here for dinner last night. The food was absolutely great and the portions were plenty… just as good as the«pricey» joints out here,(Monty’s) but at two-thirds of the cost! Steak was excellent, the signature stuffed potato was good and the wedge salad was one of the most appetizing I’ve ever seen. The house-made Bleu Cheese dressing was so good that my friend bought some to take home! This place has it all… Quality, service and value!

The food was terrible. Server was ok but whoever the head chef is needs to do a quality check. We had to send the plates back because fries were under cooked and the steak was over cooked. Got em back and steak was under cooked and mostly fat. The filet had no flavor. They don’t give you a vegetable either. Won’t be coming back. It’s unfortunate because the atmosphere is great.

I have no problem saying Sutter’s is by far the most underrated restaurant in Simi. This misconceived gem is what everyone needs for their pallet. Parking: Always a spot to plant your vehicle at this place. Open lot all around it and a huge lot there for cvs & jons. Décor: Ok well, the one thing I will say is this place has western 80’s all over it. Not necessarily the best look, but it does work. Realistically the place could use a face lift but the food is so good it doesn’t mess with any of your other senses. As well they have a good size banquet room in the back for parties or holidays when they get packed. Service: I’ve been here a hand full of times and the one thing I can say is this place meets the standards of what service should be. Not that they are above and beyond or that they do everything perfect. Just in the fact that they are exactly what you expect a restaurant to do and in my book that’s a compliment. They come to your table right away, they check on you throughout your meal and they always make you feel comfortable to spend some time there. Def. a warm filling for a restaurant in the age of turning tables. Food: Gravy: By far the most important thing on the menu. Ok so first off all the Steak orders come with gravy, but the biggest thing is that it is unbelievably amazing. It’s a mushroom gravy with capers in it and it is the best gravy I’ve ever had in my life. That thing pairs up with anything and everything. I even order garlic bread before the meal, just to have gravy with it before. It’s just what the Dr. Ordered Garlic Bread Old school style on the GB. Flakey, Buttery, & Garlic exactly how it’s meant to be. This is what I remember garlic bread tasting like when I was a kid. I wish I could just put my bib on with this bread and go swimming in the gravy with it. Steak: Always a good piece of meat here at a very reasonable price. That’s what’s so enduring about this place. The quality vs. price is unmatched for me. N that’s measuring against any considered steakhouse. Moist flavorful and so far I have not had any issues with cooking temperature on it. «I’m only responsible for what I say, not what I eat»

We decided to try Sutter Mill out after reading a few good reviews. We were looking for great steaks. The Unilocal reservation was great. We probably didn’t need it, but heck better safe than sorry. We get there and the hostess was super nice. Our three year old noticed she was wearing cat ears and she commented on them. The hostess treated her like a little lady and was talking so polite to her. Unfortunately they seated us in what seemed to be «date land» and with a toddler, that is no fun. We kept feeling like we needed to keep her super quite. But we came equipped with the best tools we had and did our best. Our waitress greeted us and seemed confused. This should of been an indication of how the rest of the meal would go. She switched our salads around with the table behind us then had to hurry up and switch them. She came for drink refills once and ended up taking my cup and forgetting about me until our food arrived. The food took forever to arrive. Our best guess was that they either forgot about our daughters mac and cheese or they didn’t have the timing down. Because our food was warm and her food was piping hot. She didn’t end up eating anything. Now even though our steaks were just warm they were pretty great. The potato was dry and not that great. In all, we’ll probably give them another try minus the kiddo for a date. But it’s really not a family setting and we read up thinking it was. DONOTTAKEYOURYOUNGCHILDREN. It’s more of an adult setting. Hopefully next round we won’t feel like we overpaid for our steak dinner.

Extremely upset to find out that your signature steak sauce has been removed from the menu!!! I hope this will be something that come back soon so we can enjoy it again.

Old fashioned stake house. Used to go to the one in Mission Hills as a kid. My mom was a hostess there. Remember the Wallyburger!!! Great cuts of meat and the atmosphere is nice. Service has always been perfect. Love the wedge said and the cheese toast. Try the special cut of steak listed on the back page of the menu, you will not be disappointed.

Found this gem of a restaurant via Unilocal, taking relatives to get some steak… The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and warm, with cozy booths, each with a different little lamp on each table. The restaurant was as cozy as a good friend’s well appointed and tastefully decorated living room… I needed to have a more quiet booth where I could have a nice but more private conversation and the staff were quick to accommodate. The staff where exceptional at catering to our needs, and deserve high praise! The food was delicious. I had the steak and seared Scallops, and I was moaning with pleasure as I savored the flavors! Yum! This restaurant is in a small and nondescript shopping center, and would be very difficult to come upon its charm if you only see it from the outside, but once inside, it is lovely. I’m glad to have discovered it! Another reason Unilocal can be a great help to consumers! Eric D.

My spouse and I went for dinner the other night. Our first time there since they moved to the Simi Valley. We were really pleased. Our table was ready, the sevice was excellent, the ambiance was improved, our food was wonderful, and we took full advantage of the free corkage. We will go again soon.

Took my mother out to dinner for Mother’s Day. Thought we would go have a good steak… but that was not the experience we had. Ordered 2 steak and lobster dinners and the Sutter’s Cut. 1 well, 1 med rare, 1 mostly rare. Received: 3 well steaks, no lobsters, and cold peppercorn sauce, and no mushrooms as requested with the one that was correct. So we sent back 2 dinners and wait while my mom eats alone. Asked if we wanted drinks while we wait… so comped 2 drinks while we wait. Would not have ordered them otherwise. Next we recieved 2 rare steaks, finally recieved lobsters, refrigerator cold asparagus, and one plate had a partially cooked potato… Returned one plate and just did not reorder. So my husband went hungry. I ate the lobster(which was Ok) ate 2 bites of the too rare steak and gave up. Left 2⁄3 or more of the«comped» drinks which the manager seemed to think made up for 2 hours and $ 118 for 2 people not able to eat most or any of the food served. «No», we do not want to chance dessert. At $ 30-$ 50 a plate I expect a little more than cold under cooked food and the delivery of the food to be in a reasonable succession. .I could have gone to denny’s and had better management of the food delivered. A nice night out was basically ruined and my dogs are going to have a very expensive rare steak for dinner. The only bright spot was the waitress who is not at fault for poorly cooked food.

My hubs and I decided to take my dad and stepmom out for his birthday to SM this past weekend and was excited when I read all the glowing reviews and raves about this place. Making reservations through Unilocal was pretty easy and checking in was the same. The hostess did ask if I made them online, so be sure to clarify if you do the same. We got there by our reservation time-6 pm and got seated right away. We were seated all the way in the back, where it was lightly lit and in a room with booths all around and some tables in the middle. The seating was a little strange cause if felt like we were staring at the booth across from us, not really each other. Our waiter was attentive, but lagged a little, primarily due to being in charge of a few tables around us. Since I had done some research on Unilocal,I figured we could try the cheesy garlic bread and told the waiter we’d start off with some garlic toast. I realized I forgot to say cheese and my hubs ended up ordering it a little later. The garlic toast was okay in my opinion and didn’t really think it was over the moon amazing like I read in the reviews.(If it’s your first time there, I would skip it.) And the cheese bread, was basically a heaping scoop of shredded cheddar cheese on top of toast, which wasn’t what I expected nor liked very much. For my main course, I ordered the petite filet with a side salad– basically lettuce and cherry tomatoes and a stuffed baked potato for my side– again didn’t think it was all that special or had very much flavor. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked. It also came with a mushroom sauce on the side, which was a little odd. I always figured if the steak is supposed to be outstanding, you don’t really need anything else… especially sauce to cover it up. Anywho, I was impressed my steak didn’t have any fat, so I actually got to eat the full 6 oz. My parents ordered the SM prime rib ¾lbs. And didn’t seem too happy with it. My parents are pretty critical when it comes to food, but when they eat a delicious piece of meat, they will talk about it for days. I was really hoping this place would be the next best steakhouse, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t. At the end of the meal, we decided to split the deep fried cheesecake, which is really only good for 3 people, since there are three pieces. It’s basically cheesecake filling squeezed into a fried pastry shell with whipped cream and ice cream. The dessert was pretty good and not very heavy. Overall, I’d have to say ‘Meh, I’ve experienced better,’ and to be honest probably will not come back. Nothing really stood out to me, other than the lighting which was pretty dark. But I get it… it’s to set the mood and what not.
