Employees are very nice. The gym itself and the equipment however are not. Everything is broken, nothing gets fixed, and everything is dirty. Not to mention the WIFI never connects properly. I’ve seen GM’s come and go yet none of them seem to care. Please update and maintain the equipment. All members pay an extra fee every March for new equipment and maintenance yet nothing gets done. I get it the building is old but that doesn’t mean this gym needs to get neglected.

Very disappointed with this gym. Outdated, small, dirty, and smelly. They have these tiny 13″ tvs that you can’t even see if you are in the back of the gym AND audio on many the machines doesn’t work. Internet is always down. Found out that a new gym is opening in the Plaza del Mercado in September 2016. Can’t wait!!! This gym should be shut down.

If you are looking for a no frills gym to workout than this is the place. I’m former military so maybe I just enjoy the simple layout of this location. The staff has been friendly so far and I haven’t had any issues. This is a much smaller location than the one on Randolph road but serves my needs just fine. I have seen some complaints that the Dumbbells aren’t where they are supposed to be but in my opinion the members don’t really do much to help that situation either. This isn’t a fancy gym, I don’t know any Golds that are, however you don’t have the heavy lifters but you also don’t have a bunch of one day warriors rolling around. So In my opinion I give four stars. It’s a place that has heavy things for you to lift and cardio equipment if you are into that. The location has classes but I normally just use the weight room and do my cardio outside.

My prior review was«not recommended» so is hidden — and now I notice Golds is a Unilocal advertiser — so you do the math. The manager originally posted a glowing review of his own responsiveness — which is is not allowed to do — so you tell me who’s profiting here? The manager today has threatened me with revoking my membership IF I SPEAKUP when someone is disturbing me with a nearby LOUDPHONECALL on the cardio machines. He has asked me to get off the machine in the middle of my workout to go to the front desk and have one of the managers talk to the selfish offender. WHOA — whatever happened to the constitutional right of freedom of speech?! In the past, I have called the front desk from my cellphone to ask for help with this issue — and NOONECAMETORESPONDTOMYCALL! He claims he is «looking into» putting up additional«no cellphone zone» signs to augment the single, out-of-the-way sign — which when I pointed it out to someone today, she immediately got off her call — so the signs do make a difference! It was two months ago that I asked him to put up additional signs — so I can only interpret this as harassment on the part of the manager, Ben, attempting to ignore my requests and make it so unpleasant for me to be there, that I leave.

It generally has what I need for an adequate workout. I like the fact that even though the space is small, there usually isn’t big crowds(it’s especially quiet on the weekends). I stick mostly to compound powerlifting lifts, so a majority of my experience is in the free weight room. The equipment is enough to do heavy squatting/deadlifting/benching, so no problem there. However, the bars are very poor and there’s no good way to do olympic lifts. Atmosphere is overall friendly and I’ve never had any issues with the staff or regulars. If you don’t need a lot of frills to your workout and enjoy a quieter gym, it should do you fine.

This gym location(Layhill) does not deserve to part of the Gold’s Gym franchise, it cheapens the brand. I am disappointed in the physical condition of the facility and the equipment. I have been to Gyms cross the country and his is one of the most run down gyms I have ever visited. The equipment is old and 90% of the TV’s on their cardio machines don’t work even after reported it for weeks. Nothing gets fixed. I guess that is acceptable to them. I would investigate other locations(Olney?) or try Aspen Hill Racquet ball club. It is not worth the money.

The bottom floor is very cluttered but I’ve only been there in the mornings where it’s not as crowded. The room with the bench presses and squat racks don’t have any A/C so it’s really stuffy in there. The equipment they have is solid, you have your dumbbells, barbells for bench, shoulders, and deadlifts. They have two squat racks. They also have some pretty cool toys in the functional training room. It’s a good place for my goals of increasing strength and muscle size.

Gym has two floors but the space is tight and it’s hard to find an open machine. Like clockwork, there seems to be a few loud people on the weights downstairs. Upstairs is more mellow and the staff is okay. Other locations in Olney and Rockville are far better. I would give those places 4 ½. This was my local gym unfortunately, but I have since moved on.

The gym is surprisingly large, with two floors. The top floor has cardio machines and classrooms. Classes are included in your membership. Downstairs there are tons of weight areas and machines to work out on. There is also a unisex sauna and steam room. Locker areas are small, but clean and nice. Staff is friendly.
