Just a small update after a couple of additional visits. So far the best dish I’ve had(now I’ve had it twice) is the one I ordered on my first visit, Tajadas con Carne Molida. The combination of ground beef and shredded cabbage, with pico de gallo and a sauce that reminds me of French dressing, served on a bed of plantain(banana) slices, sounds weird but I really like it. It’ll be hard to order any other main dish here.

This is a nice little unknown restaurant that serves good food with great portions at a decent price. Usually only one person serving food and ringing up the check. Its a spanish place that has a diner theme which is really cool. Only knock on the place is that it takes way too long for food to come out. I’ve been here twice and each time it took the food almost an hour to come out which is a little ridiculous considering the food that was ordered is pretty simple. Although i really like the place, i just dont want to wait an hour for food.

Oh heck yes! I can’t believe it took this long for me to try this place out when I live no more than 5 minutes away. I went in for desayuno and had the tajadas con carne asada. Imagine salvadorian slaw, carne asada strips, salsa golf, and green plantains stacked together in this messy, decadent mound topped with diced tomato and that dry, mild cheese. I enjoyed mine with a bit of hot sauce. The SO got the baleadas con carne which is like a tortilla stuffed with refried beans, eggs, avo and steak! Think of a breakfast burrito, but not really.

Prices are very reasonable and the baleadas I tried last time were awesome! Real authentic Hondurean food. It’s not perfect rating just because of the service. The waitress was very slow, a bit forgetful and not energetic. Other than that, the food is worth it! Thumbs up! :)

This place is absolutely great. Small enough that you may end up chatting with the next table, great food that sticks with you, and a really friendly casual vibe. It makes you want to visit Honduras.

We drove out of our way from jersey to myrtle beach to stop here because my husband was craving baleadas and the reviews looked good. Food was good. Area was nice and parking not a problem. The only thing that threw me off– was when they brought the check. I thought they had mistakenly charged me for lobster instead of chicken! Between the taxes and included gratuity– it was more than one order of chicken by itself. Gratuity and taxes were over $ 10. Food was worth it since we can’t get authentic Honduran food where we live but it was just unexpected.

Firs time eating Honduran — big thumbs up for the tajadas. We couldn’t figure out why the plantains were so white — they are green bananas — even better! I will go for ground beef the next time to avoid working on the steak which is a little tough.

WONDERFUL! I had the baleadas, homemade flour tortillas filled with seasoned steak(much better marinade than fajitas), eggs, a little cheese, avocado, and refried beans. It was delicious. Really, really delicious. My dining partner had the Honduran tacos which were what a flauta dreams of being. Corn tortillas rolled and filled with wonderful seasoned chicken, then fried. On top, a kind of fresh slaw and salsa, then a pinkish sauce. Absolutely delicious. The place is tiny, but the lady working there is a attentive and a quick worker. Loved everything about El Catrachito and I can’t wait to go back.

This place is TINY. The lay out is kinda like a diner but ¼ the size of what you’d expect. It has like 4 tables and a bar. I took up like a whole section of the restaurant alone. I sat down at the bar and was greeted by a lovely woman. She gave me the menu and I asked her if she had any recommendations. She recommended the Carne Asada or the Fajitas. I’m already familiar with those dishes and asked if she had any dishes that other place wouldn’t usually have. She recommended the Baleadas. It’s a big Honduran styled Breakfast Pupusa. It was pretty damn tasty from it’s home made bread to the seasoned steak and the breakfast ingredients, it was like a good home cooked meal. Then putting some Habanero sauce on it? It tasted even better. I’m guessing she recommended the Carne and Fajitas because I was like, American-ish which was understandable. Anyways I told her I was kinda hungry(Even though I just came from Maki Café) and she also recommended the, I don’t remember what it was called but it was basically a huge dish full of Honduran coleslaw that smothered the fried plantains and had a huge piece of fried chicken under all of it. That plate came out and was HUGE. The plantains weren’t really sweet which was great because the coleslaw was. Then the huge fried chicken under the mound of coleslaw was crispy and cooked just right. From cold and sweet to hot and savory, the flavors and textures were great. The woman there was very friendly and the food was good.

The place is good for families, when I got there was a family taking up four tables so I sat at the bar. They do not cook behind the counter like the other places that look like this. ordered chicken taco and a real sugar Coca-Cola. Small thick tortillas are not the best thing for tacos, if you squeeze them together too hard the bottom breaks apart, I ate the last taco with a fork, along with the pile of things it fell out of the first two tacos. When the children started to scream I could not wait to leave.

On first look it appears as though you’re entering a 50’s style diner. The menu is short, but the payoff is delicious. Hand made tortillas. Great sauce. Friendly service. Great experience.

Full disclosure: I’m interested in a woman from Honduras and so I might be a little biased towards their food right now. And yeah, that’s why i wandered in there. But even with that bias, this place is great. love the diner atmosphere and the baleadas were so good and flavorful that I didn’t want to use any hot sauce. And although not from Honduras, the pastales were so very good. I usually don’t want rice anywhere near my plate where it can fill me up instead of all the good stuff but the rice in these things was the perfect addition. Fun fact: She tells me the restraunt name refers to the slang name other Central Americans call people from Honduras. The more you know…
