I ordered a custom engagement ring from Atlantic Gems and am thrilled with how it turned out! I inherited a diamond from my grandmother and was having trouble finding a jeweler that would sell me a setting for a reasonable price without purchasing the center stone from them as well. Rahul was awesome throughout the whole process — I showed him pictures of a design I liked, and he was able to replicate it along with the changes I had requested. The whole process only took about 2 weeks, and cost half of what another jeweler had quoted me! I will definitely be back for a matching wedding ring!

Absolutely excellent customer service here. My fiancé and I came in to resize her engagement ring and we got expert advice as to what size to change the ring to as well as a non pushy suggestion to re-​coat the white gold. The final price was super reasonable and the ring looks great! We are very satisfied.

My fiancée and I went in to brave the high pressure world of buying an engagement ring. Wow, what a personal, low pressure experience. Rahul’s mom helped us pick out the stone, and patiently waited for us to flip through the setting catalogs only to end up choosing one from the first 2 pages.
2 weeks later he had the ring for me, and even stayed open late for me to pick it up, since I got stuck in cross Montgomery County traffic. Rahul and I spent a ½ hour just talking, discussing our engagement (which was being kept a secret so that it could be announced at Thanksgiving) as well as just talking about life.

Atlantic Gems and its proprietor Rahul hit all the right notes: selection, customer service, and value. I was on the search for a place to purchase a proper engagement ring for my fiancée after I had initially proposed with a ring pop; the throwback nostalgic sucker from the late 70’s and 80’s. After the initial hours of happiness my lady asked me to get real and put a ring on it.
I had looked around the internet and noticed that this establishment was nearby so I decided to pop in on a whim. After speaking to Rahul for a few moments I knew my search was over, even though I had initially told my fiancée that we would go looking together over that same weekend.
Pushy sales people enrage me. Whenever I’d step into the various mall chain jewelers (I’m looking at you Kay Jewelers) I’d be mobbed by salespeople and inundated with their inane questions. Rahul was so laid back, friendly and accommodating that it was a pleasure to do business with him. Further, he has a huge selection of loose gemstones and can get others shipped to him if what he has on hand still doesn’t fit the bill. You’re only limited by your imagination. I had a custom Sapphire engagement ring made and although not all the design features I asked for could be implemented — one of the features I wanted would have compromised the integrity of the main stone, I’m not the one with decades of experience making jewelry so I deferred to the pro — I couldn’t be happier with the results. Best of all my fiancée LOVES the ring and just gushes about it and admits that the wait (although short) was worth it.
Regardless of where you are in the process of proposing or if you’re into gems and jewellery in general do yourself a favor and stop by Atlantic Gems and have a chat with Rahul he’ll steer you in the right direction.

We accidentally found his store at Google Maps and decided to go check it out just because we were passing by.
Despite the fact, that the store had closed 5 minutes before, Rahul greeted us and spent an hour helping us choose rings for the wedding.
It was just ten seconds talking to Rahul, which made us trust him and approach our wedding with absolute confidence about the rings.
We were very short on time but Rahul managed to deliver the rings in just 3 business days, which is fantastic given the fact that the rings were custom-​made specially for us and contained a number of stones!
Other stores couldn’t offer anything faster than 10 days (for some even a month was not enough).
We are very impressed by how he managed to meet the very hard deadline.
And, of course, a great selection of rings and stones with the help of Rahul navigating through this ocean!

When my fiancé decided to propose, a mutual friend recommended that he go see Rahul. My fiancé had looked into several other stores and options, but once he met Rahul the search for a jeweler was over. Rahul helped him navigate through the difficult and important process of picking out a good quality diamond and designing the engagement ring.
I absolutely love my ring!!! I get tons of compliments on how «sparkly» and pretty it is (even from other jewelers!). I am telling you, it is gorgeous!

I bought my fiancée’s engagement ring from Atlantic Gems in January. We went ring shopping together in December and visited 6 stores in the Silver Spring /​Bethesda, /​Chevy Chase /​Rockville area before choosing which store to go with. Rahul was great throughout the entire process and I was impressed by his customer service. We wanted a ring with a main center diamond in the center, some smaller diamonds on the band, and a yellow gold band. Rahul was able to customize a ring for us and finish the ring in just under 2 weeks. I also thought that the value was great, as we got a high-​quality ring at a less expensive price than similar stores were offering.
When I went to pick up the final ring, it looked even better than I imagined. Even though my fiancée was involved in much of the process, when I proposed a month later, she was amazed at how beautiful the ring turned out and loved it!
We plan to visit Rahul again this summer to make our wedding bands.

If you’re looking to impress your significant other by giving her something unique this is the place to go. I was looking for an engagement ring, my girl loves the color purple and I wanted a ring with an amethyst stone, and diamonds of course. The staff assisted during the entire process, I chose the amethyst stones, the diamonds, the design and engraving. The final product was awesome, I will definitely come back…

Atlantic Gems is indeed a gem! I was lucky enough to find them last year, when looking for a place to design a necklace. Having little previous knowledge on the subject, Rahul quickly assuaged my fears and helped me assemble a beautiful gift, guiding me through the process with expert knowledge, excitement and patience. I was made aware of Atlantic Gems through Unilocal and boy am I glad that I went to this place. I had just been given my girlfriends mothers first engagement ring and was thinking to myself what could I do with these. Little did I know, I called Rahul on a random Thursday and on Friday we met for the first time and instantly I knew this was the guy that I would trust to fulfill my engagement ring needs. I never went to another vendor as soon as we begun to talk our ideas spilled onto the page and by the end a draft of the ring was completed. I got the ring back yesterday and although I have no idea when I will give it to her it looks awesome. I was going on a vacation the next week the very first time I met Rahul and he offered to get the ring back to me before vacation if needed and even told me a few places to eat on vacation. I had an old engagement ring reset here. I had gone to 4 different places before walking into Atlantic Gems. The place is a little hole in the wall in Silver Spring so I wasn’t expecting much but Rahul was so nice and professional. Didn’t bat an eye at the fact that I’m in a same-​sex relationship which was nice considering that wasn’t the case at some of the other places I visited. Was worried that he wouldn’t be able to do much with my partner’s 3 stone engagement ring (a sapphire with 2 side diamonds) but he made suggestions and got a sense of what I liked. Was extremely patient with my indecisiveness. Finally decided to use the side diamonds and turn them into earrings and just completely reset the sapphire in a new setting. Moderately priced and I felt like it was a good deal for the setting. Really appreciated how thorough he was and his quick follow up after it was sent off. I was nervous about getting it reset but I picked it up yesterday and the ring is gorgeous — exactly what I was looking for. After I paid he even offered to sell my old palladium setting for me because he has a friend that buys palladium pretty regularly. I really appreciated the service and the quality here. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I just moved to Washington, DC from Chicago. In the move, I found the first engagement ring my husband got me when we were college sweethearts 18 years ago (I have upgraded over the years). The story behind this engagement ring very special, but the diamond was literally a small chip and the ring did not stand as high as the diamond anniversary band I’m currently wearing. So I went to Atlantic Gems to see if they could work some magic on the engagement ring. Rahul was great! He had a great recommendation and the finished product is spectacular. He set a larger diamond in the ring and it now stands as high as my anniversary band. I am so pleased and the rings are beautiful. Thanks Atlantic Gems!

Rahul did my wedding band for this summer. Not only did he make sure it was the ring I wanted by getting me a sample of it ahead of time, but he was able to give me suggestions that I would never think of. I’m impressed by all the changes and modifications that they are able to do to my ring to really make it one of a kind. Ill definitely come back here for their honest customer service.

Ok, so the end of the saga of my pearl and opal rings is this – I love this place! My initial review was based on my gut feelings and reaction to the owner, who seemed so genuine and caring about his work and business. Now I’ve that actually seen Atlantic Gems’ work, I’m so happy and pleased that I waited for just the right place to entrust the two pieces to. The workmanship was first rate and flawless. So, five stars it is!

Got an engagement ring here. Hopefully the marriage is just as good as the service here. The owner is super nice and very attentive. I think it’s a family owned business and the place isn’t like a typical jewelry store. They don’t have a major store front and the only way to tell you’re at the right place is a sign on the front door. The guy was very knowledgeable and walked me through what to look for. I’m going to be using him to get our wedding bands as well.
The store is narrow and has a lot of beads. Bead hobbyists would love the place. That is a world I will never know so I can’t really comment on that aspect. There’s just a lot of beads everywhere in the store.

I had my engagement ring reset at Altantic Gems. I wanted it done as soon as possible because I want to show it off during Thanksgiving. Rahul and Rajni made sure that it was taken care of in 24 hours. As the previous reviewer wrote, they really do know their stuff and are very knowledgeable. They’ve been around for decades! I also had a custom made pendents made as a gift to my sisters. They came out beautifully and the price was right. My sisters loved them and we all have matching ones. I would highly recommend them for those who are looking for great customer service and personalized items. They have a huge selection of beads and other items that I haven’t had a chance to look at yet. It seems that if I ever needed anything jewelry related, they’d have it!

Beading. For some it’s a hobby, for some a business, for some an obsession. The folks who own and run Atlantic Gems certainly love what they do. It might be an obsession, I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader. The wife loves this stuff. I go along for the ride.
Their hours are a bit odd — they close at 1pm on Saturday… ostensibly to handle inventory and fulfill the huge number of online orders they get. The guy who runs the place knows his stuff, and was exceptional at keeping tabs on all of his customers at almost the same time, which is important since a lot of the product is in glass cases and needs to be pulled out as requested. It’s a family owned business, and everyone helps out.
The selection, while it is deep in some areas, is shallow in others. The store is somewhat small, and space considerations probably dictate space allocation more than individual choice. This isn’t a place to go for tools, but for crystal beads (swarovski), this place is a gold mine.
As mentioned in the other bead review, people spend a looooot of money here, and amazingly quickly. Silver is weighed by the gram, and lo and behold, at 1KG, it gets a little cheaper (but not much). 1KG of silver is a lot when you are working with beads. Or at least it should be. Really, though, when it’s on the scale, it looks like it should be so much more.
Parking sucks. Use the parking garage a block away to avoid getting towed. It’s right across from the post office. Worth the trip.
