My heart sank when I saw this great spot is now closed! I came here twice in 2008, during a road trip to the area. I had a chorizo-and-date-filled crêpe served with a side of apples cooked in herbes de provence and covered in crème fraîche that was to die for! I liked it so much, I reverse engineered it, with really good results. So very sad. On a slightly better note, I can now make the recipe anytime I want and not feel like I stole it, but as an homage to Shevek!

If you want some place special to take that special someone or to please your in-laws;) Shevek & Co Restaurant always leaves me feeling more like I had been to an event vs. just going out to eat… Great service, excellent food and fantastic atmosphere awaits you in historic downtown Silver city!

Such a great beer menu with world class imports — it was hard to choose! I ordered the soup du jour, a crisp, refreshing and just spicy enough gazpacho and the delectably hardy vegetable couscous. The waiter didn’t blink an eye as I asked about the inclusion of dairy and corn in the dishes. When I let him know that I’m vegan and allergic to corn, I didn’t get even a whiff of the condescension I sometimes get in restaurants. The portions were perfectly sized and the flavor and attention to detail was impressive. I’m already thinking of my next visit! Update: This has quickly become my favorite place in Silver City. Everything they do is exceptional, from the wine and beer list, to the food and service. Rumor has it that they are planning to open a new burger-centric restaurant. I can’t wait!

One of the better meals I’ve had. Each dish was so richly and exquisitely packed with flavor. It forced me to slow down and enjoy each bite. The owners are great as well, in particular Amber Wind’s performance art of delivering the specials of the day and explaining the dessert menu. It was a real fun and enjoyable dining experience. Great beer list too, which goes a long way in my book.

It has been a long time since I have enjoyed such a meal. They serve Tapas portions(as an option) so you can try several mini-entrée dishes, an incredible beer and ale and wine selection, and desserts that are tiny but potent and intensely flavored. The waiter and the chef were both attentive and enthusiastic, and the service impeccable(Monday night, and they were still full). This is a meal that takes time, and is best with friends and conversation where you can enjoy the flavors and the atmosphere. Memorable and worth the trip and the price. This small Southwestern town has a real diamond here. You can reserve a table online, and I recommend that if you have the option.

Dinner was a very mixed experience. Service is very pretentious and 5 plates and dessert took 3 hours. Some dishes were excellent: tomato and fava bean soup, and desserts. Other dishes, like a watery lobster bisque were real misses. Portion sizes are ridiculously small: one medium shrimp for example. Don’t think we will be back

This small restaurant has a surprising number of options. The depth of choices is very remarkable. The choices I made(beverage and food) were all fresh and flavorful. The portions are very small but the prices fit the portion sizes.

Tasty but tapas size is very small. Tapas scallops included 1 scallop for $ 8! Boo. Ambiance is nice. Meal took about 2.5 hours. They ‘take their time preparing each dish’.

This fine restaurant is a must to visit when you’re in Silver City. Normally you would only find food this sophisticated and well-prepared in a major city. We dined there in July and vowed to return. The menu is Mediterranean eclectic, made more interesting by Chef Shevek’s vast culinary experience. I recommend trying the chef-selected tapas dinner. Shevek will ask you a few questions about your food preference and then proceed to roll out a stellar procession of tapas that will leave you wanting more. The wine list is fabulous for a town this size and his craft beer list even better. As if that weren’t enough, the service is excellent.

This place is a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster downtown scene in Silver City. It was Memorial Day weekend, the Blues Festival had just ended, and people were wandering about. You’d think that restaurants would be open to cater to this otherwise captive audience, but no. They were all shuttered, except for Shevek & Co. We sat at the bar, as the dining room was pretty packed. It was a front row seat to the chaos that would ensue. Over the course of the night many, many people drifted in looking for a place to eat. The next available seating time gradually shifted more and more forward. It was not pretty. This was the only show in town, and they were getting slammed. I felt bad for the folks coming in, as it was evident that they were hungry, but there was nothing Shevek could do. They were booked, and for good reason. Their food is good, and their service is outstanding. The beer list here is amazing. And of course, the wine list is sure to please. If you sit at the bar they’ve got enough good choices in the food department to keep you satisfied. Also, they have an outdoor patio, so take advantage during good weather. If you take nothing else way from this review, let it be this: CALLANDMAKERESERVATIONS. They get busy, and there is limited seating. MAKE A RESERVATIONINADVANCE. Then, sit back and enjoy great service, and delicious food.

This place is a date night treat! Excellent service, and delicious locally sourced meals. The Moorish Pork Kabobs were beyond fabulous, and we enjoyed the tapas portions so we could sample lots of flavors. I will return to this restaurant any chance I get!

Lovely dinner accompanied by our two children. Husband and I ordered all of our selections tapa size. The lamb meatballs were our favorite. The portabello mushroom and chorizo stew were tied for second and the lobster bisque came in third.

Excellent food, very romantic, great service. We had Moroccan lentils, seafood risotto, pâté, fig and gorgonzola crepes, seafood pasta, carrot cake, and blood orange crêpe suzette. Everything except the pasta was excellent and flavorful. The pasta sauce was too tomato paste-y and heavy. I definitely recommend.

Excellent surprise to find this nugget in the old mining town of Silver City. Chef Shevek even gives fine dining cooking lessons. Now that’s confidence and well deserved. Started with the Chevre Mediterranee and a glass of local Luna Rossa Shiraz. I wanted more but I had to keep in mind it was my appetizer after all. On to mushroom gnocchi which were made by there chef and were very light with wonderful flavors. I finished with the Vitelo do Vinho Portuario(veal cutlets). There was nothing to disappoint. You also have the option to name your serving size from tapas servings to full plate giving you the chance to try everything. Don’t stop at the food. His beer list is phenomenal and the waiter quite knowledgeable about the virtues of each one.

Three of us had dinner at Shevek and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We ordered a mezze sized fruit and cheese plate(all the food comes in three potential sizes) as an appetizer, and then sampled pork curry, chicken cappelini, and beef asana. The beef was very spicy(but not in a bad way); the curry was actually pretty mild. Everything tasted great. Our waiter was extremely professional, although he scared me a little by whipping our napkins out of the water glass at the beginning of the meal and handing them to us(I felt as though he were tsk-tsking that we were slow on the uptake about getting them into our laps!). A cabernet sauvignon that we ordered was good and complemented the meal. The room itself is pleasant enough, with art on the walls, and most of the windows sort of blocked off so that you can avoid seeing Silver City’s downtown. We were dressed a little too casually; I recommend dressy casual if you want to feel appropriate. The reason that this is a 4-star rather than a 5-star review is that I REALLY think that $ 30 is too high for an entrée in Silver City. This isn’t Santa Fe.

This is why I love Unilocal. We’d been through Silver City a dozen times and never seen this place. On a lark, I pulled up Unilocal, saw Shevek and checked it out. Even though it was late Sunday evening, the food was fresh and delicious. Tuna pernod was very flavorful and philo lamb and soup du jour – a cousin of gazpacho, can’t remember the name– were outstanding. Our server was a little icy at first, but warmed up after a bit. In any case, he was was quite professional, perhaps to a fault. If you’ve got some disposable income and you don’t mind dropping it on some superb food, check this place out.

Overall this place was great. Food was excellent. The different sizes were great– I had three tapas sized dishes(soup, salad and a main) and it was perfect. The deserts were out of this world — unique, not sickly sweet. The two stars come from the waiter. He was so uptight, pretentious, stiff and full of himself it was outrageous. He could not lighten up no matter what we tried. He was so rude that one of our party seriously wanted to leave halfway through. We had to convince her to stay. He just about managed to wreck our whole experience(we were the only party in there for most of the meal). The best food does not require being served with your nose in the air. Get rid of that guy, or teach him how to lighten up and enjoy life, and this place would get 5 stars.
