I will admit, I only went to the thrift store for a specific item they had acquired. I also understand that electronics are not the shop’s bread and butter, but that is no reason to hike prices up to near 2016 retail prices on 6 year old electronics. That is exactly what I found when I went to the shop to check out what I was looking for. All over eBay for $ 50 – 75, and naturally, SV’s Salvation Army thrift store is asking $ 200. Here is a tip, just because it plugs in and you don’t know what it is, doesn’t mean it has a high price. When I tried to negotiate, I was told that $ 200 was a steal. A steal on what, I asked, do you even know the model number, the release date, the condition of the unit itself? Do you even know what this thing does? Overall, a waste of time dealing with people from the dark ages who have no concept of technology.

I read the reviews on here first before walking in so I had mixed expectations. The lady at the front greeted me(very friendly) and told me about the specials(but sadly I couldn’t understand her very well) so that left me to explore around. If you are in search of clothes, look no further. Over half of the store is racks of clothes waiting for you to look through. They have a small section of household goods/furniture, so maybe you can find something you like. When I first explored the store, the prices on shirts ranged from $ 2.60−5.85. I usually shop at Goodwill so $ 5.85 on a shirt seems to be the going norm. But on donated items??? It seems like every store is trying to double their profits with those prices. UNTIL. I walked up to the register. Placed my 6 shirts on the counter. And found out my total was $ 11.30. For 6 shirts! I would’ve paid double that at Goodwill. I found out that usually clothing is ½ off and household items are 20% off(but those numbers change daily). But lemme repeat myself. ½ off clothes??? Needless to say, SA is my favorite place to shop now. I’ve heard weekends are the best but I usually shop around ¾pm on the weekdays. I don’t see any«soul crushing moments» during that time. Just be prepared for the cashier to start singing random lines of Spanish at any given moment.

Good prices, lots of clothes(too many really). Also very close to a Goodwill and a Habitat for Humanity thrift store, so you can hit 3 in one small area.

This place is excellent for clothes, shoes, bags and sometimes knick knacks, if you don’t mind a little digging. If you’re looking for furniture of any kind though, don’t bother, it’s WAY overpriced for some reason.

I love what the Salvation Army does for people-I don’t love the SV thrift store. Yes, I know it’s a thrift store and I’m not expecting it to look like a department store but honestly, they’d do a lot better if things were organized and easy to find. Yes, I’ve seen other Salvation Army Thrift Stores that were in much better shape. It’s worth a look though.

This store rocks! Talk about GREEN! If you are sick of supporting Walmart /Target and the ubiquitous dollar store’s Chinese-slave-labor-toxic-chemical monopolies, this is the store for you! All items are retrieved from the Waste-stream of American Life in a fully sustainable, friendly, community-building fashion. The Sierra Vista store’s stock comes from the Tucson Adult Rehab Center on S. 6th in Tucson. Waaay more ‘local’ than the Far East for sure.(But if you want your donations to stay in SV, donate to St. Vincent de Paul’s or Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Store, both just a block away!) Sally Ann’s(as it’s affectionately called ’round the world) often has 50%-off-everything sales. Watch for the banner out front or call them. Their furniture selection is usually awesome, lots of solid wood items amongst the pressed-wood monstrosities, great sofas, cool endtables, desks, file cabinets, chairs and recliners, stuff you can refinish or use as-is! The good deals are bought up within seconds so shop early and often.(Hint: Always check under chair /sofa cushions and give everything the ‘sniff test’ before purchasing.) When linens are half-price you can score dozens of sheets and blankets to use instead of expensive new fabric for all your sewing projects! I often find 200-count pima cottons, flannels, fluffy acrylic blankets that I use for quilt batting, oh my, the list is endless. Stains, burns or rips are no problem when you’re re-purposing! Second-hand clothes are naturally pre-washed, pre-shrunk, formaldehyde-free, already broken in… mmm, yummy soft. Their flaws are up to you to discover, so shop carefully.(Hint: Watch especially for bleach stains.) If the clothes don’t fit, you don’t hafta hassle with returning them because you’re not out a lotta money and it’s for a good cause. Re-purpose them into gift items, cut them into rags or pass them on! And always check out the glassware and bric-à-brac! Heavy old glass and ceramic bowls make better, safer pet food /water containers than storebought.(Cats should always drink from glass or ceramic.) Most new ceramics and glass items at Target /Walmart /dollar stores are made in China with unknown chemicals and heavy metals(think TOXICLEAD and CADMIUM). There are no regulations on what they can use, nor testing required before they are imported here. Picture frames, did I mention those? Never pay retail for a picture or knic-knac again! Catch the eclectic bargains at Sally Ann’s instead!

As I’ve previously stated, I loves me a bargain! This store is a typical down & dirty, SAS… U should expect the completely burned out, stained industrial carpet, the flickering florescent bulbs, carts that are impossible to maneuver, and a staff most likely in a recovery program… A good 50% of the patrons are probably homeless and are hoping to take a lil’ snooze on an unfortunate Lazyboy. 40% of their customers are at least 100 years old and wander around in a dazed, nostalgic confusion. This leaves a generous estimate of 10% of their clientele as mostly alive & functional human beings. Understand that it is this 10% that could potentially ruin your day/break Ur heart by violently abusing their children and/or taking items out of Ur cart. Yeah, the whole scene can be a real downer… That said, Saturday is the best day to try Ur luck… They have their specials written on a wipeboard to the left of the entrance. I go there to buy T-shirts for my four sons — usually I can get 2 for $ 1. Wait for the morning rush to die down, or else Ur chances of witnessing a spirit crushing moment increase significantly.
