Big-5 is like many of the businesses serving a wider region than merely Sierra Vista, and their customer relations reflects that. I purchased a good deal of moderately priced gear here in my time living in Cochise County, but never once left this place feeling like it had been a good experience, or that my business was appreciated — not to mention an interest in getting my return business, etc. There is a palpable — where else are you going to go around these parts vibe — in this store and many others around the Sierra Vista area. With Tucson an hour to an hour-and-a-half away depending — you get this kind of parochial ’ wish I gave a s**t attitude ’ more often than not, in and about SV. The bottom line is, I would have spent a good deal more money with this establishment if the customer service had not been so juvenile from the manager on down.

Our Big 5 is pretty small. They have just enough of the basics as far as equipment, gear, and clothing for our area. There isn’t much of a selection and prices are average. Sales flyers are sent regularly and they seem to have(larger) sales on occasion. To my knowledge it’s really the only sporting goods store I can think of in town.

Lil’ known fact to newcomers of SV and it’s surrounding area… Big 5 is the local sports hook up! Got kids? Ya need to plug into Big 5 or else they might be missing out on the opportunity to participate in much of the local sport scene. If your kids go to the schools within the city limits, you’ve already been alerted to this hidden hot sports spot(flyers float home from the nearby schools), but for the couple of years we were out in the Palominas/Hereford area, we were completely clueless and outta the loop. Sad, ’cause I can’t get that wasted time back, people! Besides being the local sports portal, Big 5 is exceptionally well stocked & staffed. The ever present manager, a tallish, dark haired, spectacled man, is incredibly helpful. Being from the east coast, I have a hair trigger suspicion of overt friendliness, especially coming from the opposite sex. It’s no come-on, he’s actually a genuinely nice person. My favorite section of the Big 5 is the back of the store shoe clearance section. My whole fam has benefitted from the sale rack in the back, full of fabulous footwear finds in every brand name.
