I would definitely recommend this restaurant for it’s food. Everything was delicious! The only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is because the service wasn’t great. They were all perfectly nice but were not helpful at all to people at the table who had never had Indian food before and had no idea what to choose. That being said… everything was delicious. The waiter was very slow clearing empty plates and actually brought dessert with all our dinner dishes still on the table. I chose this restaurant for my mother’s day dinner based on reviews. The others in the group were skeptical about going someplace without meat or alcohol but at the end of the meal they were all satisfied! WARNING… this restaurant is in a very depressed shopping plaza. We were a bit terrified to go in!!! However, once we were inside, it was clean and had wonderful spicy smells and filled up quickly with a clientele that looked like they knew where to go for good Indian cuisine :-)

Staff was very courteous. clean and hygiene restaurant. I ate Mini Idly dipped in sambar and could see idly on top and sambar somewhere down of the small congested bowl and was difficult to eat. Dahi vada was very hard to eat. Even pesarattu was not tasty. Looks like food is not freshly prepared.

This vegetarian Indian restaurant is located on Route 9 in Shrewsbury in the same plaza with Hooters and Imperial Chinese Buffet. It is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. They serve vegetarian food and focus on Southern Indian food. It was crowded when we visited on a Sunday night with what appeared to be regulars. Dosai and Uthappam are worth trying. The food seemed fresh and the service was good considering they were busy. No meat dishes are served so plan ahead if you are looking for that type of meal.

It was excellent. Typically the quality of food and cooking by real vegan /vegetarian chefs is so good you really get what veggies and sauces can taste like, and don’t miss the meat at all. Non-vegans try hard but isn’t the same great tastes as I got here. I went at lunch and had the Thali plate, which is really a sampler plate with 8 or 9? small cups of Indian food surrounding a pile of rice and a piece of naan, Indian bread used traditionally to scoop up food, instead of utensils. It’s a great way to get introduced to a variety of their items. I used my utensils and folded some naan around each serving as I like it that way. At first I looked down at the small cups, rice and naan and said to myself, this won’t be enough food. But it was — I left feeling quite full. A couple of things were a little spicy — I had not specified anything about how spicy I wanted it — and sipped from the cup of yogurt-based something and it put the little fire out, as dairy will. And the rice pudding-like dish did too. I’m being lazy not looking at the menu to correctly name the items but that’s what’s so. At the end I bought a gift certificate for a friend to go there. Only thing missing is I had to ask server for a side plate where I could put the rice and combine rice with one taste after another.

I cannot say enough about this place! food was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere left a little something to be desired but the food more than made up for that. We ordered soup, an appetizer, and two different meals. My husband who isn’t even a fan of Indian food really enjoyed his dish. All vegetarian options which was great! Two thumbs waaaaay up.

Love their Lunch specials, Dosa with Vada or Idli and the Veg Thali. Always Delicious. The only think I don’t like is their chutney, wish it was thicker. Best South Indian Restaurant around.

Stick to south Indian. And avoid coconut chutney, tastes like it is made once a week. North Indian food does not look and taste like it should be. With Bhindi masala i got couple of bhindis and peppers in tomato gravy! For $ 12, the quality and quantity looks like a $ 2 frozen curry!

4 stars for staff. Food here is just okay Reason for two stars, first the chutney was served chilled and did not taste good. The chai was bad. The rice is something which got me, how can you spoil white rice

This is a decent South Indian style vegetarian restaurant with warm, friendly service. The food including the sambar and chutney is fresh and not frozen and days old. And you can taste the quality ingredients used in the dosas, idlis, puris and batooras. We love going here when we crave for a good dosa. I’d go so far as to say that it is the best place in the area for a dosa. They could brighten up the place with slightly brighter lighting and décor.

I do like Indian Food very much and this was among the very best I have had to date. Udupi is an all vegetarian Indian restaurant but don’t let that stop you if you are a carnivore as the flavors of my dishes were all very different and expertly prepared with a hugh eye opening beet root surprise. I ordered the Mysore Thali Plate which comes with choice of several soups and pakora appetizers. The pakora app had one potato pea samosa and a «beet root cutlet». The samosa was perfectly fried, not greasy with a flaky crunchy exterior and a nicely flavored potato pea stuffing and without a moments hesitation was one of the very best I have had anywhere, hands down, straight up, the best. The mind blowing sensory savoring surprise was the Beet Root Cutlet which had been pan fried to absolute exterior textural perfection with a flavor profile beyond the ability of words to capture. Carnivores, if you are reading this, you’d think you were eating meat that had been prepared for the Gods. I have had no experience quite like that cutlet and I would literally drive hundreds of miles to repeat it again and again!!! I selected the Mulligatawny soup which had slightly spicy note and was quite good, perhaps not the best version of that classic but still very nicely and distinctively prepared. The Mysore Thali plate came with several chutneys, chana marsala, Dal, yogurt, resham, basmati rice, chapati, papadum and many other uniquely spiced and expertly prepared little vegetarian sample dishes. All the items on the plate where skillfully prepared and spiced each having a very distinct and unique flavor. Udupi is a destination restaurant which assails the height of extremely well prepared and executed Southern Indian culinary cuisine.

Good Indian good can be hard to find, but Udupi has a wide selection of delicious, authentic dishes. Be aware that it is a vegetarian restaurant, but the food is so good you won’t mind(even if you’re a big meat-lover like me). I’ve had their food many times at catered lunches and it is equally tasty. Reasonably priced and great service, I will be coming back here soon!

This is my first Indian meal in Worcester. I ordered for the Mysore Thali. It was worth every penny I spend. The thali comes along with various lentil and veggie preparation in authentic Indian flavors. The starters were really tasty. Service was warm. All in all its a good place if you wish to spend about $ 15 for an Indian meal. Shalom!

My wife and I have dined at Indian restaurants all over the US, so we know what’s what. And this place has some of the best Indian food we’ve had. The décor is not fancy, but the people ar really nice and the sevice is excellent. We highly reccommend Udupi. Bhavan. M&S, Fairfield, Iowa

The best vegetarian udupi food in the north east. Have been here 5 times in the last 3 months. The South Indian Thali is a must try, reminds me of the food that we get back in Bangalore.

The best I can say is «meh». The ambiance is nothing to write home about. My meal, saag paneer, tasted about average. The owner sent breads to my table for me to try without me asking for it. That was a nice touch. If I’m desperate for Indian, I’ll come here again, but as it stands, one visit is enough for me.

It reminds me of India very much. The smells especially. Lots of great South Indian vegetarian dishes, like idli, vada, uttapam, dosa, and a lot of interesting curries. They even have some special thali which comes with a lot of things and some appetizers. Really cool place, really great service. The servers are great and friendly.

I am somehow intrigued by the excellent reviews on Unilocal, but we never found this place good enough. A South Indian by heart, I do understand that I cannot get the food of same quality here, but udupi disappointed me. The filter coffee was not strong and lacked flavor. It came quite cold too, same case with the chaai. The sambhar didn’t taste as good as it does in other similar restaurants like udupi in the US. The only good part was the dosa. The rava masala dosa tasted pretty good ! The coconut chatni tasted quite bland. Overall this place can do much better.

I have YET to eat something here I didn’t LOVE. When I crave vegetarian and Indian cuisine, I just have to come here. I have since departed from my usual egg plant-based dishes. We have ventured to try other options on the menu, such as the puffy bread and chana masala or their paneer. Food comes out piping hot. Rice is always fresh! Their rice flour crepes are crispy, light, ethereal. Maybe a bit greasy when you eat with your fingers, but it is so flavorful you just wipe and eat! No frills. Clean and very humble. Its about the food. Inexpensive(16 onz beer $ 5.50!, main dishes $ 12.00OR less)! Get a combo plate for appetizers! M O N E Y! Still a hole in the wall. Still excellent! Still makes you think, almost, you will stop being a carnivore. Maybe…
