I hired Master plumber Jason«JR» Ravitz to do an install of a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, hot water heater, toilet, and bathtub(all supplied by me) at my rental property in Natick. At the end of the day, Jason wrote me out a receipt who(including his license# 13672 at the top of the receipt — I still have all the documentation) and I gave him a check. Within 18 months my tenant residing in this unit informed me that a large crack had formed along the bottom of the new tub. Given that I was on a second floor, I was understandably concerned about any kind of water leakage onto the unit below. When I went to check out the crack, I saw a 6−8″ crack all all along the very bottom curve towards the end of the tub(opposite end of the drain). I immediately called Jason and asked him if there was anything he could do to help me out since I thought it was very unusual that a brand new tub should crack after such a short span of time since the original install. Jason was unwilling to stand behind the work he did made a whole list of reasons and excuses not to remedy this issue or help in any way. I was shocked and appalled at how he could not be bothered to fix extremely shoddy work done under his watch. I eventually found another licensed plumber to replace the tub. When they removed the cracked tub here is what they found: Not one supportive 2×4 ledge around the tub –just a 1“x 3′ foot strip of wood screwed to the wall that wasn’t even near the tub wall. The«mortar bed» was a mound of concrete on the center of the floor(not evenly distributed). The licensed plumber and contractor present that day said it was the most«half assed tub installation they had ever seen»… The lack of support throughout the base of the tub caused the tub to crack. The result of which has now cost me close to $ 2000 to repair. As a female homeowner, I feel my lack of knowledge regarding the tub installation process caused me to be taken advantage of in this situation(although this is just my guy feeling). Bottom line — this plumber doesn’t stand behind his work.
