Whole Catfish … Cooked Perfectly, very good quality. Staff is a Joy. Owners First Class. This is a hole in the wall… But very Clean. Try it, you will return again and again as I have. They will cook you a Catfish Dinner at 7:00am, if you so desire. Which I did, and it was fantastic … Trust me on this one, you will return again and again, as I have

Wonderful place! We stopped by here on our way through Shreveport to try based on the reviews. Although we had to wait a bit because it was super busy, it was worth the wait. I noticed a lot of locals and regular customers. Service was excellent, just prepare to wait a bit for this piece of deliciousness! The remoulade sauce was amazing!

Decided to stop by while visiting Shreveport since I heard some good reviews. I actually stopped by for some gumbo which they didn’t have at the time, so I was a bit disappointed. Anyhow, the first thing I noticed was the location. A bit sketchy & it honestly almost made me reconsider. Secondly, the pricing in my opinion is way too high compared to the portion & quality you receive. Due to it being a late night stop I got shrimp friend rice. Well if all you have to do is buy a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, fry some rice & throw in some frozen shrimp… then I’ll pass. I guess it’s best to stick with places known for making Asian dishes. My friend ordered a burger, which he said was quite sloppy & some fries that ended up costing EXTRA. Burgers normally come with fries as a combo, you don’t just add $ 2 for something already expected. But again that’s my opinion. Now there may be some other items on the menu that are okay but I doubt I will be returning back to find out.

Great food but service is a bit slow. Definitely call ahead if you want to-go. The fried shrimp are huge.

While passing through Shreveport, this restaurant was found and recommended on Unilocal. It had glowing reviews but I would like to debunk them for future travelers. First of all, food was expensive and subpar. I ordered the grilled shrimp. It was overlooked and all of the shrimp poop was left attached and dangling from each one. I discovered this by tasting gritty sand with a bite. They did not have sauce options for my grilled shrimp either. The fries were undercooked and tasted very potato-y. The coleslaw was wilted and tasted like an impending visit to diarrhea land. My SO ordered the shrimp po boy. He’d never had one and I was excited for him to get to experience the fine cuisine of LA. The shrimp looked tasted like frozen shrimp from any Walmart… And very fishy tasting. Also, his shrimp contained a full load of shrimp poop needing to be deveined. While waiting for our order, I made a visit to the restroom. It was one of the most disgusting bathrooms I’ve ever used. Luckily, I work out and was capable of hovering through the process but geez it was gross. To make it all more disappointing, walking through on my way back to finish waiting for our order, the cashier and the guy he was assisting to pay out both hit on me. I was extremely uncomfortable. Overall, ghetto location and ghetto food. Big ‘no’. Don’t eat here.

Visiting in Shreveport one weekend and saw good Unilocal reviews for this place, so decided to try it. The location isn’t the greatest and not much parking, but the food was great! We ordered the gumbo and crawfish étouffée and it was delicious, and the staff was friendly. Next time we visit Shreveport, Monkhouse will be on our list to visit!

The gumbo is amazing. It’s definitely worth visiting. Call ahead and CARRYOUT. Not at all a dining atmosphere that I recommend.

This place is a hidden gem. I wanted true southern food and that’s what I found. Everything was delicious! Way more food than one person should consume, but I made a good go of it. Service was wonderful. Great experience!

Great customer service and awesome food. It’s next to a gas station but was worth the stop

Oyster po boy-delicious, étouffée was so good I had to share with two others, catfish was lightly breaded and perfectly fried, shrimp po boy was piled high with shrimp. One would doubt when arriving at the gas station. Park it, and come on inside for some might fine vittles!

I felt a little let down by my fellow Unilocalers on this one. Though the shrimp Po Boy was as good as advertised and putting the location aside, the rest of what we had was pretty standard to meh… The coleslaw was nothing special, the fried oysters extremely small and overly breaded and the fries were the standard frozen variety. Service was very pleasant though the place needs a serious deep clean. The catfish was good, but nothing to bring me back. This place was a solid 2.5 stars, but because I am writing the review and had the Po Boy, I’m giving it a 3.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside– attached to a gas station– but the crawfish étouffée and oyster po boy were excellent. We were happy to find this place and happy they were open on Christmas Eve.

The best gumbo, étouffée, and oyster po boy I’ve ever had. Service was quick even though the place was a bit busy. Gumbo was warm, thick, and full of sausage and okra. Étouffée was heavenly — creamy and packed with spices and crawfish. The oyster po boy is big enough to share, but you won’t want to! Buttery bread, delicious pickles, and that remulaude sauce is to die for. Give this place a try! It’s SO worth it.

The Unilocal reviews convinced us to come here … When we arrived we realized we NEVER would’ve stopped in from street view. The people were very hospitable and accommodating and the food was very good … Well the seafood was(salad and sides were not that great). Lemon juice was in packets but tartar/remoulade sauce was delicious. The cakes on the countertop sure looked good but after splitting the Monkhouse Platter, we were full: 3 catfish fillets, three shrimp, three stuffed shrimp, three fried oyster plus hush puppies, rice & gravy and salad.

Its in a sketchy looking area but its such a good place to eat. We needed something late and they were one of the few places open. I got the grilled shrimp poboy and fries. It was phenomenal. Hubby got catfish and chicken wings with beams and rice. This is officially our new favorite place when we go to Shreveport.

For a no frills joint this place hits the spot. Straight from the airport, I wanted to get my first poboy fix. I usually opt for a fried shrimp poboy but went for the grilled instead. I’ve noticed that everytime I come to these places every item I tend to get is fried and it can be overwhelming. I didn’t regret my choice one bit. This poboy was stuffed with grilled shrimp. At least 15 pieces and you know how stingy some places can be. Dressed perfectly and the perfectly buttered and toasted bread held up to the sandwhich just fine. The fries didn’t taste like your run of the mill bagged fries. I’m sure it was but the inside was so soft and fluffy and not soaking in grease. Fried okra was really awesome! You can tell it is freshly breaded. An hour later and it still had its crunch. All this and a drink for under $ 13! This will be my go to spot when I touch down to Louisiana every time I fly into Shreveport.

The blackened fish was superb… and that’s about it, and this may be enough for you. Nice people here, both staff and clientele. The terrific quality of the fish will bring us back.

Good food and decent prices. Recommend calling ahead due to high demand. Recommend take out to avoid the kitchen odors and the less than inviting ambience. I would go back even though the airport area is not very inviting.

Lovely folks, kind and friendly. I was pleased with every effort they made toward service, cleanliness and the freshness of the food served. They’re doing a better than average(by local standards) job here on those accounts. That being said, I felt the flavors fell a little flat. I like a kick, a surprise, some spice or something to wake me up. This was simple, strait forward, dare I say«plain»(without it being an insult) — yet done superbly by that marker. Some folks like their food best this way. Unpretentious and unadventurous. I prefer my catfish filets cooked slightly crisper/longer. Fried shrimp where of good size, but lacking in flavor. Tarter sauce(cocktail unavailable) was tasty, but didn’t add anything somehow. Coleslaw was fresh, and I ate it all, but I would substitute something else in its place for any future visit. Love the people, the freshness and the passion — they’re doing that right! Just doesn’t suit my particular taste. Otherwise, worth your visit… may just be your new favorite.
