A great place to dance. Half vintage waltz (rotary, cross-​step), half other stuff: «fox trot/​swing, blues, salsa/​rumba/​cha-​cha, zydeco, the occasional polka/​schottische/​hambo – who knows what!» People are friendly. Dress is casual. Mondays, 7:30pm-9:30pm. $ 5.
Some of the dancers head to Sonny Newman’s for lindy hop swing dancing (9:30pm to midnight) right after the dance. I did the night I was in town. Sonny’s is about 100 blocks south.
Waltz etcetera is similar to Friday Night Waltz in the Bay Area in California.
Many of the dancers also come down for the Stanford Waltz Weekend each summer when it’s held. That’s where I first met some of them.
