Excellent food and so-so service. I come here for the food. No questions. The food is very traditional. So lebanese traditional that they dont even have freakin rice, just fries. And god forbid you only order one order. they wont make it supposedly. So I went ahead and ordered two orders. But its way better and authenticc than that crap they serve at Carnival down the street where all the cheapskates go. If you want quality food then you go here. If you care about portion size, then forget it, you have no idea about food and you have no right to complain. You only live once, eat the good stuff. Besides WTF are we living for. Everything is fresh and made to order and you can even custom order certain things if needed.

One of my favorite restaurants in LA. Best lamb chops ever(though expensive) and great salad and starters. Not your typical fancy restaurant — take the atmosphere and décor and service as-is and just enjoy the amazing food.

WOW is all I can say! This place was amazing! I tried the Armenian salad(with an delicious sumac, lemon, olive oil and zatar dressing then had the quail(3 little birds perfectly cooked and seasoned) served with pita, pickled veggies and garlic sauce. The pickled turnips they served on the accompanying pickle plate were the best Ive had. I would definitely go back, just make sure that if you are on a date you both eat the garlic sauce because it is potent!

This has to be on my list of Armenian restaurants to visit when I am in the Valley. Large portions, family style servings, and all I remember is the food kept coming! The food is traditional and authentic, and there is a wide variety of dishes that are sure to please many different pallets. The highlight of the meal on my visit was the Falafel. I don’t think I’ve had better falafel anywhere, period. Huge sized falafel balls, warm and moist on the inside, nice and crisp on the outside, and the spices were robust and outstanding; I couldn’t get enough! I can’t comment on everything on the menu, but being Armenian I can say that a lot of the food here is great. The prices are a little high, so it probably isn’t the place to stop in for a quick bite, but for a family get-together it is ideal. Get lots of food to share and you can quickly be transported back to your family table sharing loads of homemade meals.

Excellent food and service. I never like to be the only patron in a restaurant but it is good for a clandestine meeting ! Reasonable prices and try the Turkish coffee. I will visit again to try the place for dinner.

3.5 stars. My boyfriend is Lebanese, and he tells me that it’s very rare to find places that serve raw kibbeh. So we immediately went to go try this place after we found it on Unilocal. Both he and his dad really enjoyed the kibbeh here(which they call tartare). They both liked the tabouli too, which was really fresh and lemony. And a huge plus that they give you tons of pita bread with your to-go order. Cons? No printed take-out menus, really early closing hours, and some items are grotesquely overpriced(like the lamb, at $ 24 for a few tiny chops).

I’m not the expert on Armenian Lebanese cooking, but the food and service were amazing. The restaurant owner was charming and sweet and suited the 1980s décor perfectly. Loved it. We ordered the beef kebab and this other ground meat dish and the eggplant appetizer. Everything was very tasty and filling. They even serve wine here, so you could come here for a classy date… to relive your teenage days in the 80s. As non-Armenians or Lebanese, my friend and I did not feel awkward about coming here at all. It’s definitely a different experience than your usual Sherman Oaks experience coming here on a Friday night. The best part about living in LA!

Well. You HAVE to go here once. Did I mention ONCE? You’re going for the décor. It’s amazing — the mother lode of plastic grapes, a time capsule from the ‘80s, so far over the top as to be almost charming. Mrs. H, who will wait on you, is lovely. Mr. H, the chef, may have the television screaming at an annoying level back in the kitchen. Or not. Good luck with that. The food? Meh.

I’m Armenian, so I know what Armenian food should taste like. I have to say this unfortunately was the worst Armenian restaurant I have been to in my existence. Don’t get me wrong, the service was very nice and it had the typical décor of a classic Armenian family place, but how can you not serve lamb? I was completely shocked beyond belief. There was no pilaf(rice), but I knew about that before I got there, as I had read the reviews from this place off Unilocal.Their Torshi/Tusu had no cabbage at all, it might have been strictly sliced turnips, I couldn’t tell. They tasted ok, however the tabouleh was a MAJOR disappointment. It’s by far one of my favorite things and this literally tasted like the smell of burnt tires. I am not joking. I ordered 2 sides of it, took 2 bites and threw it away. There was also barely any bulgur(cracked wheat) in it, which is the«cheap» way of making it. I will say their beef kabobs tasted nice. If it wasn’t for those and the hummus I got only for the girl I brought, I would have given this place a 1.

They don’t serve rice here. Translation: unlike many similar restaurants, they don’t stuff you with cheap ingredients. While the prices are low, the quality is high. I was really impressed by the high-quality ingredients — from the simple pickled raddishes that were crisp and fresh, to the thick, creamy and delicious yogurt.

I can’t believe I’ve never tried this establishment in the eleven years I’ve lived in the valley. I pass them all the time but not once stopped to try the food. I love Lebanese food and was immediately drawn to the menu here, because they serve mouhamara(a red pepper, walnut and pomegranate dip). I’ve missed this(very fattening but healthy) dip since I stopped working in Glendale and eating at Carousel’s(their version is delicious and addictive). I wasn’t sure Hagop’s version would be as good or better but I was willing to try. I was greeted by the female owner, Sonia. Her husband is the chef and it truly is a «mom and pop» place, open for almost 25 years. Sonia is very friendly and considerate. She offered to create a combo plate for me when I was eying the kabobs, but I settled on the chicken skewer. I try to eat vegetarian most days, but I couldn’t resist(I was craving protein). So, I ordered the dip and skewer and asked for«garlic sauce, if you have any.» I was then served mouhamara that definitely gives Carousel’s a run for their money. It was sweeter than I expected but incredibly flavorful(Sonia told me later that they don’t put pepper paste in it). I had to force myself to put my fork down after eating TWO(gasp!) pita breads with the dip/garlic/pepper pastes and turnip pickles. The flavors all meshed together are heavenly. When the chicken arrived, I was already full, but I tried a few pieces of it. Fantastic and cooked perfectly with roasted tomatoes and onions. I also received more warm, grilled pita bread(not that I needed any). All of this was plentiful and well presented(forgot my camera, darn it!) My only complaint(very small one) is that I wish they served bulgur wheat or rice. I realize that I don’t need either, but when treating oneself to Lebanese home-cooked food, one does not worry about carbs or fat(and if you do, you might as well skip it altogether!). Hagop does not serve any rice or bulgur(so, take note, don’t expect any!) With this said, it does not deter me from going back. I’m giving them a solid five for cleanliness(and cute décor), great service(yes, by the owners), and delicious food. If you go, order the mouhumara for sure! I’ve read that their hummus is good as well. Next time I go, I’m order all vegetarian, and hummus will be on the list.

Excellent Armenian and Middle Eastern food. Try the Ourfa Kebab it’s the best. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for over twenty years and I would say it’s one of the best Armenian restaurants in southern california!

When we arrived here at 7pm, the restaurant was empty, there was a basketball game BLARING from the tv in the kitchen and the place stunk of cigarette smoke! Having said that, the decorations were nice(lots of mirrors and bottles of Armenian wine) and pretty table-cloths. The food was so-so: delicious hummus and appetizers, warm, fresh«chapati», but the lamb kebab was stringy and over-cooked. Friendly staff, but in dire need of an air-freshner! PS It’s also called«Hacop».

I just visited this place today after reading the reviews on Unilocal.Overall, a very good place for Kebab. Quality food and service, the owners have been there for 21 years and show pride in the location. This is my first time eating Armenian food(have had lots of Persian) and the difference i noticed was that there aren’t any rice plates. Although the lack of rice Hagop makes up for it with their delicious appetizers. The place is very retro and I wouldn’t mind eating inside yet its not a «date» location. If you haven’t been here yet check it out, I’m sure you’ll like it.

4.5 stars Realizing that my go to restaurants in the valley were a bit too far tonight I looked to Unilocal to rescue me. Enter Hagup @! a hole in the wall mom and pop shop that’s been around for an astounding 23 years. Longer then almost any other restaurant on ventura. So how on earth do they only have 6 Unilocal reviews? Well I walked in to 16 Armenian eyes staring at me like what the hell is this white boy with long hair doing in our hood… gah Hmmm better get take out. no counter… no servers… shoot I’ll sit and wait… i’ll stare at my feel… …Still being stared at by that table… Out came an older man who also looked at me like I wandered into his house unexpectedl., I did what I always do at a new place and asked him if it was his restaurant to which he responded«YES in a deep accent» and then asked him for his recommendations. He was very very nice and suggested these cute little red fish fried, or a larger white fish also fried. done Italian style, or the Quail BBQ’d, or the filet mignon skewers. He said«they’re all good» and ushered me over to a big glass refrigerated case filled with whole large white fish, little tiny red fish, tiny tiny little hens, squid and other delicious looking things. He even briefly walked me through the who’s who and what’s what of Armenian food. I think he was a little surprised when I ordered the oddest choice of quail, and lamb tongue«which I won’t be reviewing yet.» Obviously take out isn’t immediate at a place like this so I sat down content with my adventurous choices… I start playing with my phone and feel the glare of the 8 mens eyes again… Arg cmon guys. Low and behold I notice i’m surrounded by oodles and oodles of alcohol! Hmmm what to do while I wait!!! Out came a nice older lady, and being a bit uncomfortable I asked about her restaurant she kindly gave me the history of the place. Ok enough small talk«whats that strange bottle of booze on the wall?) She told me the drink I was pointing at was Ouzo, and she pointed to the table of dudes who all had foggy looking glasses of ice water. She said it tasted like grapes and licorice, I figured WTH it can’t hurt right and ordered it straight. „STRAIGHT!!!“ she said as her eyes bulged out…“On the rocks I said.» «ummmm ok then.» long look… long pause. Out came my little milky 4OZ glass of Ouzo . I took a sip and DAMN, I said DAMN that stuff is strong but… good. Still feeling uncomfortable I drank down half the cup and when I looked up the 8 dudes all had their glasses in the air offering me a cheers! Ha So I indulged them and finished off the rest of the glass. They all laughed Men«have you had that before» Me «nope» Me «it’s good» Me «it’s strong what proof is it» Men«laughter» Men«um that particular bottle is 120 proof» Me «doh» Men«ya, we thought you were showing off…» Me «nope…» Men«well be careful, as you can see we’ve been drinking it for 10 minutes, and were not even a quarter done@!» Me «doh» Their Hummus here is incredibly creamy, rich, and balanced. It’s by far the best I’ve had on the west coast. Quail is a tricky bird… someone please tell me how they get the buckshots out of them? Do they still shoot quail down like in the old days? I tried for a good minute or two to eat the Quail in a civilized manner… failed miserably. But, upon a friends suggestions I got down and dirty with my de-feathered little friends, and OMG it was super delicious. Quail meat is tender, with a yummy gamey bbq flavor, and the skin had a fabulous mix of herbs and spices bbq’d into it. While Hagop wasn’t hip or exceedingly beautiful, or the most mind blowing food I’ve had to date. I’d rate it at a solid 4 – 4.5 stars, I’ll need to try more things before I can move it to the elite 5 star catagory of my lists. Despite the weird feeling of cultural separation upon entering, the service and friendliness of the staff and customers was welcoming and attentive. I saw many items come out to the other table that i’d like to try soon! Definitely worth checking out, if you’re in the area and feeling adventurous. My Humas, Quail, and Ouzo drink was 21.00, very reasonable!

Great mom & pop place. Portions big enough to share, very tasty. Husband cooks, wife hosts & even chats you up if they’re slow. A true hidden gym for kabob.

This place is awesome. The décor is like a chintzy rental hall that was decked out in the 80s and never updated. I can’t actually think of another restaurant that’s carpeted but none of that matters. The food is so delicious that you don’t even noticed the double mirrored walls, complete with fake grapes. The appetizers are fantastic. The meats are juicy and tender. The service is mediocre, but you don’t care. Your tastebuds are in heaven, and that’s all there is.
