Service was good but not friendly. Bbq was good but food was not edible. Seriously don’t waste your money here

I recently moved back to Shelton after being away for about 25 years. My father and I used to eat at the Ming Tree every Friday night when I was a boy and when I saw that it was still in business, my family and I had to stop in for dinner. My wife had the almond chicken and my sons and I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken combination plates. Everything was as delicious as I remembered it. My wife, who is extremely picky about her almond chicken even said that it was the best she has ever tasted in her life. The bottom line is that this is really good food for the price. I’ve seen some bad reviews, but you know what? If you were expecting a fine dining experience at a ritzy Chinese restaurant that probably insists on reservations… go to Seattle. If you want good Chinese food at a reasonable price at a restaurant that has been in the same location for more than a quarter of a century… eat at the Ming Tree.

the server was pleasant enough but it took a long time for the food to arrive and now I cannot stress this strongly enough… this was seriously the worst. I did eat the greasy prawns and tried to taste the rest of the combination plate I ordered… and actually said right out loud that I hoped I didn’t get sick. really REALLY bad. everything. nope, won’t ever be back. ever. how do places like this stay open???

They have Bacon Fried Rice! It is awesome and it gets an extra star just for that. Food is cheap and decent, not a place you come for anything other then americanized Chinese food.

I realize we’re talking Shelton… but there really has to be a line — and Ming Tree is below that line. Just dreadful! We stopped in for dinner on a winding trip back from the coast. Given the many other nice and yummy restaurants in Shelton, our dinner was an unfortunate mistake. We both ordered the«individual dinners» — she got the one with sweet/sour ribs, and I got the one with sweet/sour chicken. The«individual dinners» are all almost identical — they all come with pork chowmein, egg foo young, and pork fried rice. My plate also had fried shrimp. The rice was inedible! We both tasted it once and left it. Tasted like old shoes. The fried shrimp were disgusting — gooey greasy breading and not crisp at all. The egg foo young was equally nasty, smothered in brown gravy. Both chicken dishes were just passable — not horrible but hardly anything great. But the funniest thing of all was the chowmein — it was canned Chung King chowmein! Not kidding — IDENTICAL to those 2-can stacks in the grocery store! Having had that for dinner a zillion times as kids, we both laughed when we tasted it and looked at it closely — yup! That’s exactly what it was! They just sprinkle a little chopped up pork on top with some green onions. Even the crunchy noodles were the Chung King noodles. Amazing! Soup choices were really odd too… Tomato, Vegetable, Chicken Noodle, and Egg Flower. We passed on soup. Prices are good though — they have a «deluxe cheeseburger» on the menu for $ 2.90 !!! With fries no less! A regular hamburger was $ 2.25! Our dinners were each about $ 8.50 — had they cost more for the dreck that was served that would be bad. The bathrooms were gross, and no paper towels. The inside of the restaurant is very dated, dirty, and dark. With all the good places to choose in Shelton, there’s no reason to waste a meal at Ming Tree Café. Dave & Anne
