Lia’s makes the best calzone you ever had. I always order just the plain cheese calzone because I’m fussy and don’t like meat in my calzone. The crust is crispy and thin and the inside is gooey and just stuffed to the max with ricotta and mozzarella. Marinara sauce comes in a small container on the side for dipping. It’s always hot, fresh, oozing with cheese and simply delicious. The take out dinners are also excellent, the grinders, lasagna, chicken parm and the pizza is so-so. You’ve never had a calzone with a crust so crispy and crunchy, it’s just the best. The place itself is a hideous mess but the food is great and we take it home anyway.

This place scares me a bit, although I’m willing to try anything once. It shares a door with a consignment shop that looks like a junkyard, and is what I can only assume, the original dining room. The have a $ 5 pizza and a soda deal, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I walk in to find the place smelling like an ash tray and the owner sitting behind the counter, smoking a cigarette. He doesn’t look up from what ever magazine he’s reading and says«what can I get ya, bud?» I ordered the $ 5 special. It was made fast. That’s where the positives end. The pizza itself was marginal, the crust however, it was like eating a pizza after it had been dipped in sand, every bite brought a new mouthful of sand… it was all over my hands, everything. Overall, the place was dirty front and back, showed no pride of ownership, and that was reflected in the quality, or lack thereof, of the food. I won’t be back… too many good places to eat pizza in the area to settle for this.

I love Lia’s for it’s grinders… my favorite is the eggplant parm. Everyone I know loves their sandwiches. Their pizza is OK. The crust is too tough for me, but it’s nearly perfectly thin with the right amount of sauce. It’s worth the $ 6.50 price from Monday — Thursday or if you & friends want a couple cheap slices. A friend of mine loves Lia’s entrees and orders dinner there often. He even goes there for catering parties. The only time I was really disappointed was when I ordered two pizzas and the toppings were all messed up. Otherwise, it’s a nice, local place for consistent Italian food.
