Every time I go to this event, I am wow-ed by how many cheese producers there are in our area. And the ability to try most of them in one central location is a unique opportunity. Local cheese, wine beer and specialty food enthusiasts gather annually for the Vermont Cheesemaker’s Festival and celebrate all things delicious on the fantastic Shelburne Farm grounds in an event that is well-run and a joy for folks of all ages. True to form, this year did not disappoint. We arrived about 10:15 am, sampled cheese, wine, and other products until we were stuffed silly and passed out in the shade along the water. Food coma having subsided, we then determined which products we were taking home with us from the list we’d curated along the way and then made our way back inside one more time to purchase. Favorites this year for us were Woodcock Farm’s Summer Snow, Fat Toad Farm’s goat milk caramels, the«honey» tasting(very unique), Mansfield Creamery’s offerings, Vermont Smoke & Cure’s bacon and hot dogs, Champlain Valley Creamery’s cream cheese and triple crème, and Vermont Creamery’s cultured butter with maple and sea salt(YUM!!!). If you LOVE Vermont cheese, wine, beer, and other local delicacies, I highly recommend attending this event. On a lovely Vermont day, you can’t go wrong! The event sells out so buy your tickets early! For $ 50, and the vast quantity of samples(cheese, wine and beer!) that you can try, the demos you can attend and the tote bag and wine glass that is provided, it’s a great deal!

This festival has been rated one of the top 10 national festivals(by some highly-thought-of publication). Having gone for my first time last year, I can understand why. Not only is the event HUGE, it’s full of world class local vendors and attracts a national audience, including notable press such as Rachel Ray, Martha Stewart, along with many others. Set at gorgeous Shelburne Farms, located on 100s of acres of natural beauty, this event is a sell-out crowd pleaser. Great for foodies or visitors from out of state who want to experience the best Vermont has to offer in one glorious, but short, afternoon. Props especially to the people who organize this. They do a wonderful, extremely professional job of making this event seem effortless.
