This farmers market is only open on Saturdays. It is awesome. It is small. It is full of colorful characters and cranky older people. It doesn’t have people selling things like 1 dollar sunglasses like the Overland Park farmers market. This farmers market is what every farmers market should be. The type of place where the farmers are actually farmers. The type of place where the farmers will remember who you are and what you like. The type of farmers market where the farmer will bring you green tomatoes for the next week just because you want to fry some. It is also home to some of the most delicious tomatoes you will ever have in your life. I’m being serious here. There’s this guy. He sells them out of the back of his truck. They are the ugliest tomatoes ever, but they are so good. I love this man and his tomatoes. I can’t wait until it is July. If you want fancy stalls and pastas and breads and pies, then there’s another farmers market close by that is probably better for you. I mean, the Shawnee Farmers Market does have some of this stuff, but for the most part it is just produce. I love it, and you should too.
