Lost my credit card last year and has to update my payment info with planet fitness. I went in and they told me they no longer accept checking accounts and they can only accept payments withdrawn from my ATM card which goes through my checking account. I decided that I didn’t want these funds to go through my bank card so I stood there and cancelled my account. Flash forward a year and I decided to re open my account online. I did so and entered this gym for several days in a row until one day I was stopped at the front counter. I was told there was an issue with my account and that I owed a past balance for a different account. I explained that I had cancelled that account a year ago and if they would check my last check in they would see that. He stated that unless I pay my old account up to date I could not workout. I asked to talk to the assistant and he reviewed my account. I left the establishment and awaiting his phone call. He called me back and explained that he could remove all of the late fees but I would still be required to pay my old account in full. I declined to do so and asked for the managers number and he said he didn’t have it available and that he would give him my number. I then asked for that locations franchise owner contact information. He has no idea what that was either. I attempted to contact the planet fitness franchise company and they weren’t able to help me in regards to specific locations because they are privately owned and operated. They also would not /could not give me contact information for this location. After 12 emails to and from the corporate office of planet fitness I gave up. They state they tried calling me several times regarding my balance yet I never had a voicemail from them. So, I went to the YMCA and got a better deal, more equipment, free classes, and free daycare if I ever decide to need it.
