It’s cheap for a reason. Literally every time I have eaten off there salad bar I have gotten diarrhea. If I have to eat here I will but I have to be pretty desperate. Not to say service is bad. It’s actually really good usually. Just something about Hoss’s salad bar. I was told it was the preservatives they use on the green vegetables, but I’m not a doctor so I don’t know.

I have been a customer at hoss’s for quite some time. You definitely can’t beat the price you pay for what you get. With that said I must admit that the food isn’t always top notch. For some reason items on the salad bar taste different almost everyone I go. I would assume they would have a strict recipe for anything they serve however, as of lately I’m doubting such practice. Most of the waitresses are very friendly and definitely do a great job. I’ve never had any bad service related issues. No matter how busy they are I have always been served, refilled and visited in a timely manner.

my family and I like to find locally owned restaurants when we travel, always a challenge, but after driving hundreds of miles through fog and relentless rain, we were famished and couldn’t wait another mile to eat. We had thought that a smaller highway like Rte 15 which takes you through the heart of several big towns and small cities would have some local offerings – but no. So we finally, in desperation, pulled into Hoss’s. This is one odd place: enormous(there must be seating for hundreds) and packed full with the locals.(So I suppose there AREN’T any locally owned eateries around.) The 3 adults in our party all ordered the soup and salad bar which surprised us with some of its unique salad topping items: crunched up potato chips and goldfish crackers are two that linger in my mind. The green part of the salad is iceberg although there was a scanty bin full of romaine with some caesar on it. The 4 and 5 year olds in our party ordered the pizza kid’s meal; the side dish was a ‘smile fry,’ a tater-tot like item with a face on it. While fried potatoes with a pizza made the adults cringe, the kiddies were enchanted. The 4 year old wrapped hers up to take home to her daddy; she felt this was the ultimate in a gift. Hoss’s is better than the chain fast food burger joints but certainly an oddity among restaurants. I hope to do some serious local restaurant research before any trips through central PA in the future.

Salad bar for lunch. I thought I was adding diced ham to my salad. Turns out it was diced baloney. Ugh! The chili was good though.

While I’ve been here a number of times with some friends who I like it– I hate it. It feels like an awkward blend of fast food, a steakhouse and a Chinese buffet. Why do you make me order once i walk in the door only then to be seated? That’s weird. The food, available to order and the buffet, is NOT good. While I’m not judging the tastes of others, I was a little shocked by some of the reviews here that rate this so high. I’m not that picky– but if you want a real steakhouse head somewhere else.

The food here was not that great. I am from Los Angeles and this was a step down from a «Sizzler» from where I am from. The steaks were really dry and served with cold rice. The Price was about 15 bucks per person for a 6oz steak, cold rice, and a salad bar. We had flown here for work and everybody in town recommended this place as the best place in town. Honestly, I don’t think any of these people have ever had a good meal in their life by the way they described this place. However, after all my negativity. The fresh bread in the salad bar was amazing. They said that everything in the salad bar was fresh and homemade. The Desert bar was full of all the goodies you would expect at any all you can eat place but the pudding was amazing for some reason. But if I was ever in town again I think I would rather eat at McDonalds.

My bride and I like to stop here once in awhile when traveling between home and what we used to call home many years ago. It’s a good place to stop and stretch the legs. The food is average for steak and seafood all you can eat salad bar fare. You order your entrée before you’re seated and then start digging in. The service is generally good and it doesn’t take long to get stuffed. Our«go-to» stop for a super long drive. However, it reminds me too much of the Golden Corral — just better than the Golden Corral.

One of my favorite places to eat when I come home to PA. Food is always great, restaurant always clean. Awesome salad and bread bar, soups, desserts. Steaks are always tender and taste great. Steak sandwich is a good choice.

With a homey atmosphere and a ton of seating, Hoss’s is my favorite steak house in Central PA. Upon entering, you wait in line and place your order. You are then seated. Weekend nights are usually packed. There is an all-you-can-eat bar with salads, soups, bread, and desserts. The menu items are typical of a steak and seafood establishment. All items are well-prepared. My favorite dish is fillet mignon with chicken noodle soup from the bar, both of which are delicious every time. Wait staff is fantastic!
