On the way back home from Ocean Isle Beach today(a mini getaway in October for my friends to fish and me to relax), we stopped in Shallotte to get some eats before the ride home. Unilocal helped us find this one, and since it was breakfast time the decision was made we’d try it out. It’s a bit off the main road, just down a bit across from the ever popular Wal-Mart there in town, down the road that faces it(Holden Beach Rd). Our server was very friendly and with a smile on her face and in her voice helped us out with drinks and the menus. They have a good sized menu, with lots of standard breadfast meals as «number x» type of orders. Drinks came out quickly. This part was a good thing as we could enjoy our coffee while we waited on the food. It took a bit longer than I was expecting and anticipating for our food to get out(I was HUNGRY). So much it cost them a star in my book unfortunately. I got the scrambled eggs with the chopped steak, and a waffle on the side. The waffle was awesome, I thought it was excellent. The eggs were not bad but not a large serving, in fact, I would call it a bit skimpy on the serving, but they hit the spot. The chopped steak was good, a bit dry but good as well(nothing ketchup or steak sauce can’t help out with). My friends raved about the toast and grits, and I have to say, do try both when you get the opportunity to go there. Our server very happily split our checks and the person at the register was very cordial and friendly checking us out when leaving. I like this place, and will come back I am sure in trips to OIB to come. A few things as I mentioned above could put them in four star status for me, and I am happy to check them out more to see if it gets to that level. Bottom line: Good place for breakfast, very friendly staff, but be ready to spend some time there and enjoy it. OVERALL: 3.5 stars, but not on the cusp of 4 yet, hopefully in future visits.

Cons– service was SLOW especially for the off season… we had the same waitress Tessa that other Unilocalers have said was slow… Pros– pancakes the size of dinner plates, delicious omelets(try the meat lovers), good coffee, wonderful biscuits. We will make this a continued stop on our way home from HB. the good food fortunately overshadows anything else.
