I’m gluten free so Mexican is almost always a safe choice if they have corn tortillas. Very large portions… so large I always have leftovers. For the fajitas it’s a ton of food for the price. Even in takeout they give you a large bag of house made tortilla chips and salsa. Love this place for takeout.

This place is wayyyyy over priced for the food. I was disappointed. I ordered a taco and it was runny. I could have drained it. The Mexican rice was flavorless. The waiter seemed to forget about us a lot as I had to remind him I ordered cheese dip and I needed to flag him down for the bill. The cheese dip was almost 4 dollars and it was sooo tiny… I’ll stick with Acapulco’s

Very good Mexican restaurant in Shakopee, I prefer this one to Pablo’s.Typical Mexican menu with lots of drink choices too. You can get a BIG beer here! Nice big dining room so this is good for larger parties too. Our kids like coming here so we have been here many times now. The workers here are all really nice too.

Been here several times, have always been pleased with the service and the food. Had the Enchiladas Verdes Pollo again tonight, best tomatillo sauce I’ve ever had in the states. Fresh guacamole salad too. Food is definitely more authentic than the standard Tex-Mex fare at most Mexican restaurants.

The service was excellent. The prices more then reasonable. The food was great, I had the combination meal of a taco, burrito and quesadilla. I wanted to try all three and all three hit the spot. Would have no problem recommending El Toro to anyone.

Decent Mexican food. I ordered the burrito ranchero and it was a lot of food on one plate. The white dip is delish! I’m giving this rating 3 stars since the bottom of my plate was really greasy. The service wasn’t that great but the food came out really fast.

Food was ok. Service today was horrible. We sat for 20+ minutes waiting for our drink order and the rest of the meal went downhill. Generally I will make allowances for issues with staffing, but we were offered no explanation or apologies. Some of the worst service I’ve ever seen.

I’m shocked but I really liked it. A bit nervous having ethnic food in Shakopee, I was totally surprised in a good way at the delicious food — salsa, burritos, rice, beans, etc were all awesome. And our server was just the nicest guy you could meet. Took care of us and was there when we needed him. Plenty of parking, and a great place to choose when you are in the area and want to skip the burger joints.

We have come here with large groups and with just the 2 of us. It’s always fast service, nice staff, and delicious food. It’s no ritz carlton inside, but it’s pleasant and comfortable and the food and staff make it always a good experience.

My review before I entered the restaurant tonight: One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area! Food is always really good and service has never been anything but great! Tonight: Our food was mediocre at best. Our children’s food was promptly served, however they were long finished with their meals when we had to start asking where ours were. Almost twenty minutes difference between our meals ad out kids meals was awkward. Our server could have cared less. Asked for the bill as at this point we were now running late and it never showed up. Finally we just handed him the credit card to run and had to get our food to go. No apology from the waiter, nothing. I think this was the last time I will be coming here. Update: a few hours after leaving El Toro I’m changing my review from three stars to one after getting food poisoning! Bad service and mediocre tasting food is nothing compared to spending your evening puking it back up. Never again will I frequent this restaurant! It used to be one of our favorite place to go. Yuck.

A friend and I came here after visiting the horse racing track and casino somewhat by it. When pulling up, I was a little sketched out by the exterior, but we went in because of the reviews on Unilocal! We were promptly seated, and ordered a large queso.(They did not have a medium size) it was $ 7, which I thought was a little high, but we were impressed with the taste! It was safe to say it was the best queso we’ve ever tasted. I got 3 tacos, which were a little pricy at $ 2.75 a taco, and I also got fries which were $ 3.39 for a small plate of fries! I thought this was very expensive, but the food tasted like authentic Mexican. My friend got chicken fajitas and he was very impressed. Overall this was a fine Place to eat, and I would come here again.

I used to go here all of the time. The past couple years the quality of the food has drastically gone down. The last time my husband and I went, we vowed to never go again! I’d skip this place. I believe(not sure) that the El Toro restaurants in Savage and Burnsville are owned by the same people. I’ve been driving there rather than go to El Loro in Shakopee. Much better food there!

There are some servers that could use some customer service training, and there are some that are fan-freaking-tastic. Either way, the food there is top notch. Fresh tortilla chips delivered seconds after you sit down(if they’re not warm, ask for new ones, they’ll bring fresh ones). I recommend getting some nacho cheese sauce for dipping those chips in, but the salsa blanca is just fine. I usually only order the beef taquitos with rice and nacho cheese, because they are delightful! Oh and don’t get the deep fried ice cream… cause you’ll only want to get another one! ;)

I got into town late Sunday evening and needed a beer and some good food. I thought Mexican would be good, but I’m not familiar with this area. So, naturally, I Unilocaled Mexican food in Shakopee. Come to find out that there are a plethora of Mexican outfits in the area, I new I hit the jackpot. I got marinated pork tacos. I ordered three of them as they were a decent size and the price was fair. I also got a Negra Modelo to wash I all down. The meat was tasty, the atmosphere was accurate and the price was very competitive. I would try this place out if you have the time, and I will stop in again if a am in the area.

The side dishes(beans, rice, guac, cheese) are very good on the entrees but the meat isn’t too special. Had the enchilada supreme which consists of 4 enchiladas: 1 bean, 1 cheese, 1 beef, and 1 chicken. The first 2 were very good but the later I would pass on. HUGE portions, my family of 5 could have literally split 2 dishes.

Ate here on the recommendation of the friends that I was visiting. The food was pretty solid, but the red sauce on my burrito was a tad bit watery. However, all the food tasted fresh – a crispy shell around the taco and the rice had good flavor to it. The unlimited chips and salsa was also a nice touch; the salsa had a nice zing to it. I would have given four stars, but my server got«distracted»(during my 2PM visit, with very few other patrons in the restaurant) and charged my card the full amount instead of splitting the bill like we had requested. After hearing that servers begrudge doing separate tickets, I thought I would extend the courtesy of telling them just to split the check. This was obviously a mistake and I will return to asking for split checks in the future.

Having spent 55 years of my life in California, I am spoiled when it comes to Mexican food. I was delighted to find El Toro, as they serve authentic cuisine that actually has some flavor and texture. In fact, their food is delicious, starting with the salsa and chips. While I would like a bit more heat in everything I tried, I understand the local palate and am quite happy to add some hot sauce on my own. We’re going back to El Toro, as the food and atmosphere are both quite excellent.
