ZAPP – The Zine Archive and Publishing Project

Seriously it is zine heaven up here. I had no idea such a place even existed.
The staff is incredibly nice and super eager to get you into the zine scene (why yes that rhymes!).
Additionally, there are tools for getting started if you have zine dreams of your own. And an absolute mountain of inspiration, organized by subject, making it easy even as a zine novice to find something that will mesh with your interests.
Will i return? Yeah, after all this kind of unique collection is why you live in a place like Seattle.

i’d been there before to browse, which has always been great (oh hi, zines by nomy lamm that i can actually touch, oh hi 17,000 other zines too.), but last night i went to a workshop and it was pretty awesome — i made my second zine! in three-​and-​a-​half hours!
it’s also SUPER COOL down in that basement, which makes it a perfect haven for a hot summer day. you can learn more about the summer classes at

Zapp is closed, well kinda… According to R. Hugo House it may open regular hours in 2008. cry cry cry.
Zapp…I miss you. I know I didn’t come hang out as much as I would have like during summer. But summer’s short and I didn’t want to spend much time inside.
Now it’s cold and rainy and I want to hang out in the basement that is Zapp. And now you’re not around.
The internet tells me I can see you by appointment, preferably 10 days in advance. Well that’s nice of you… but I know I’ll never go.

I love libraries. I love zines. This is the best zine library I know. I’ve searched them out far and wide in many cities.

–you can make your own there
–not very crowded
–fun free way to spend some time
–run by volunteers
–have workshops and events
–everyone I’ve met here is awesome, friendly and helpful
–comfy couches to read on
So awesome that I’ve spent beautiful sunny afternoons down in the basement. I know that’s probably wrong, but Zapp’s worth it.
notes: sometimes their hours change, so you may want to call ahead to see if they are open. Also the entrance is behind the Hugo House (eastside) from the parking lot.
