I would love to hear more from other parents if their experience is different than mine, but as of now, I am not overly impressed with WK. One of the main things that popped up as a red flag was the fact that they serve snacks and«lunch» for half and full day classes, but have NO refrigeration system. I found this out when I brought my son’s lunch the first day and asked where to store it and they told me there was not even a cooler(I have since started sending him with ice packs in a cooler bag). The second red flag was that within his first month he fell on the playground(no grass, just cement) and hit his head TWICE, once on the ground and once as another kid(who ran into him) bumped heads with him. I know this because I got the mandatory call from the school(liability for head injuries) and freaked out not only because it happened but because of how it was handled. They sat him down for 15 minutes then let him back on the playground, which is not correct protocol for any incident with a head injury as a CONCUSSION could happen. Not long after that, I got a note that someone in the class had LICE, which my son quickly got and soon after that he got a STAPH infection and then a few weeks later ANOTHER one! The short version– if you don’t know– is that staph is bacterial and is passed through several methods, but sanitary food handling(like not washing your hands while preparing food or improper food storage– the kids often have hard boiled eggs for lunch and I don’t know where they are being stored for several hours until they eat them!!!) could be culprits. I recently reported to TWO teachers that one of his classmates came out of the bathroom and walked right back to play without washing her hands. I was on high alert after watching my son suffer through the first staph infection and told him to be extra careful about hand washing, so when I saw this, I thought one of the teachers would walk over to the classmate and help her wash her hands but no one did. My son enjoys his time here mostly, although lately he has come home telling me he is scared to go back because of a bullying issue by a child who hits him(another issue the staff doesn’t seem to take all that seriously) and I want him to learn how to handle conflict and socialize, but I feel like WK has a lot of work to do in order to serve the families, especially the kids, better. There are a few other issues that I know are normal toddler issues, but my overall sentiment is that the laissez-faire attitude on behalf of the staff here is just too relaxed. I also don’t think they have enough staff for all of the kids and they seem to be lacking in some basic resources, so for those reasons I can’t recommend this preschool. Again, if there are other parents who have had a better experience, I would love to hear about it… maybe I am being hyper aware of too many things, but as a new mom, I have to trust my instincts.
