The UW Bouldering Rock has alot of history behind it. Around way before we had«climbing gyms». Some of the all-time greats have put their time on ‘the rock’ and every so often you run into one. It’s free. It’s right along the lake, so there’s a welcome breeze on a nice sunny day. The slab is a great way to practice for all those runout slab climbs in Squamish and Darrington. There’s even a ‘just a little too high for comfort’ pillar that you may want to risk on day’s when you’re feeling dialed in. But use the anchors too to climb any section. It’s a pretty simple rock. It’s up to you to think up an infinite number of ways to climb it, traverse it, and tune into your mind/body connection as you climb it. Many parts of it are actually quite challenging. If you are a student or staff member who climbs, this is THEPLACE to spend your lunch breaks. It’s a secret gem tucked just out of the way to discourage the crowds. Don’t tell anyone.

Who doesn’t enjoy a nice FREE climb. Fun but mostly during the summer if its cold out don’t recommend or if its raining hard!

Free climbing! What more can you ask for? The cold winter rocks can be a little brutal on the fingers, but it’s worth it.

Fun outdoor structure with pretty hard faces and traverses and shitty feet if you aren’t used to such things. The other ciimbers, all student looking(which you’re technically obligated to be… either that or older and cardiganed), are low key, Nice little embankments to chill out on while you contemplate the concrete and stone.

Free + Outdoors + Climbing = win Free + Outdoors + Climbing + Rain = less win Should be obvious to go when it’s sunny :) If it has just rained, though, bring something to dry off your shoes — wet rubber makes getting those footholds in significantly harder(or for me, impossible).
