Went on the tour 8 years ago, but revisited the Theo Chocolate Factory Tour with the kiddo and the niece earlier this morning. Advance reservations are highly recommended and can be made directly online. $ 10 per person 6 years of age and older. Just note that the actual production line is not in session on weekends.
Strategically planned it on a Sunday morning to take advantage of free street parking, able to wander the canal and also the Fremont Sunday Market.
Doors opened at 10am, checked in and paid our admission fees. We were all outfitted with the requisite hairnets and exterior clothing were subject to the lint roller to reduce particulate matter in the plant.
The tour started promptly and included an overview of the chocolate process (organic fair trade beans to finished artisan bar!), tour of the facility, and plentiful chocolate samples along the way (dark to milk, even cacao nibs, plus finished varieties).
We had a very charismatic and knowledgeable tour guide. The actual tour itself lasts about an hour and ends in the retail shop. Again, more high quality samples, truffles, gift packs, other merchandise available for purchase with your 10% same day factory tour discount.
Terrific, unique tour opportunity whether as a local or visiting from out of town!

Amazing chocolate!!! The quality is awesome and the care of which they make the product is incredible. Loved the experience. Definitely take the time for the tour. worth every penny in the amount of sampling you get and knowledge received.

I really had a blast doing their factory tour. For $ 10, you get a ridiculous amount of chocolate to taste (all amazing), and a discount to use towards anything in their store. Fair trade from bean to bar is so admirable in today’s insane chocolate consumption, so I love to support it when I can! I went on a Sunday and had no problem getting in on the next available tour. Their store is awesome as well because it sells some of their more unique products-​more than the bar that you’ll see at Whole Foods or other grocery chains. Also to note, if you do happen to go on a Sunday, make sure to also check out the Fremont Sunday Market right down the street. Perfect combination.

As a chocolate loving family this was much anticipated and a highlight of our trip to Seattle! So glad I booked this tour ahead of time prior to our arrival. It’s a small tour about 20 people. If you have small children you have to do the children’s tour which is only offered on the weekends at 2:30pm. The time kind of sucks for napping toddlers but I made it work. The tour started promptly and they even gave us cool blue hats aka hair nets to wear! Once we were inside the children are read a cute story and got to sample a lot of chocolate! Then we briefly went into the factory it’s pretty warm inside. The tour was 45min which is just perfect for small children and ended with our guide handing us a free chocolate bar of your choice milk or dark! The bars alone sell for $ 4 – 5 each so it really made the $ 8 tour a bargain in my eyes! Book ahead online as the tours do sell out! Best chocolate ever!

Took the chocolate tour today and it was AMAZING! Some people prefer weekday tours because the factory is up and running but I preferred the weekend tour as it was more relaxing and quiet without the machines on, which can also make the room 115 degrees!
Online booking & check in were easy but DO book ahead. It seemed as if these tours fully book, especially weekends & holidays. The guides were thorough in explaining the do’s & don’t before entering (proper hairnet attire too!), then we had a lesson & tasting in one room, followed by a factory/​kitchen tour with a solo guide, Evan. He was funny and very knowledgable, not to mention wickedly good looking. Definitely made for an enjoyable tour! Haha. I’ll take a few extra samples & your number, kid ;)
Speaking of kids, my only disappointment was the age limits. There’s no children allowed for traditional tours, & even their child-​oriented story hour has an age minimum (6?) so still no young ones allowed. Boo.
At the end they give you a 10% off coupon and set you free in the shop to get chocolate wasted… Which I did! I suggest the Big Daddy, a Theo version of a smore (thanks for the recommendation Evan!).
All in all, A+ for a fair trade, organic, local business putting out great product, hot tour guides & all the samples your sweet tooth desires. Book a tour ASAP!

If you love chocolate or learning, this is a must go place in Seattle! I’m not sure why it took me so long to find this place, but I’m so glad I did! We made reservations online for the chocolate factory tour ($ 10) and found free parking on the street and walked over.
They gave us a hair net to wear, which surprised me, but really, shouldn’t have — seeing as we were going into a factory of a sort. Thankfully, I had a hair tie with me, so getting that sorted out wasn’t too difficult. If you have long hair, I’d recommend tying it back for sure. Those with beards: be prepared to wear a beard guard. No joke.
The guide starts off by going through the history of Theo and cocoa beans and gives out five different chocolates to sample. Then, they take the group into a room where they then go through the process of chocolate making. Then, wandering through the factory and then the kitchen.
Our tour was on a weekend, so it wasn’t too loud or hot inside there. If you’re going on a weekday, dress appropriately and prepared to be in very loud and hot environments.
They give out postcards with 10% off at the end and then you get to hang out in the retail store where there’s even more chocolate than before to check out. Basically may the odds be in your favour, cause I almost bought everything there. It was brilliant.

Went on a chocolate tour with Saron as our tour guide. He was super funny and passionate while explaining everything. We got to try 8 different chocolates or so, they even have a water dispenser in the back of the tour room for you to rinse off your tongue palette if need be. Unfortunately the factory production is closed on the weekends so you really only get to see the production in prerecorded videos which doesn’t have the same appeal. You get a 10% off coupon off everything at the retail store (only the day of the tour). I would recommend buying the ganaches because of everything we bought, that was the most delicious (also not sure if they’re sold anywhere else). You can try most Theo Chocolate bars at the retail store but don’t feel pressured to buy them right then and there because some grocery stores sell them for cheaper already.
Overall, the tour was probably a one time thing. But would definitely return to buy more ganaches, especially with graduation and birthdays coming up (would love to gift this for Valentine’s too if this were the season).

What a fantastic little chocolate shop! We initially thought about checking out one of the tours they offer. They are $ 10 and are every couple hours throughout the day. But, when we got there they were all sold out for the day. Don’t be like us! (Side note: it smelled insanely good in there. Chocolate overload!) Book ahead online or call them. Who knew they were so popular? Especially on a rainy Monday afternoon. Anywho…
We made it to the chocolate shop in the same building with the entrance being a little further down from where the tour is. We were delighted by such a cute shop with wild chocolate flavors. Their stuff is really neat and unique. Plus, they have chocolate pieces you can try before you commit to buying an entire bar. Yum! I walked away with a milk chocolate chai bar and a dark chocolate, almond, coconut bar. Delicious! Plus we picked up some Easter treats to bring home to family. They loved them too! The workers were really nice and helpful as well. Thanks Theo!

I don’t even like chocolate. How did I end up at Theo and how did I end up having an amazing time? All the credit goes to our amazing tour guide (I forgot her name! But she used to be a teacher and has a background in biology) and Theo for having such an ethically-​sound and delicious product.
The tour is $ 10 for 1 hour packed with cool information on the entire chocolate-​making process and free samples! We happened to walk in at the right time and joined a tour that was right about to start. Sometimes I felt like I was being treated like a child but then our tour guide would drop some serious science and I remembered I graduated college. *grabs another piece of raspberry dark chocolate*
The tour is worth it and you get a 10% off coupon to use in the retail store at the end. I would say prices are reasonable considering the product you are getting
My favorites are the burnt sugar ganache, the sea salt dark chocolate, and the raspberry dark chocolate. They do sell their products online but not the ganaches! Those can only be purchased at this retail location in Fremont.
I spent quite a bit of money on chocolate for gifts back home and have absolutely no regrets.

Yum yum yum. Went on the Theo Chocolate Tour today and I am chocolate wasted. The cost is only $ 10 a person for an hour tour of the facility. The email says that you must arrive 15 minutes early, but they are lacked about it. We were late and still got in. They have 2 hour free parking up front so that’s a nice bonus and something you don’t have to stress about it.
When we arrived we used a lint roller to get any dust and hair off of us, hair nets and beard nets to wear for the full tour, and hand sanitizer. Our guide talked us through the origins of their chocolate where it’s sourced and how the cocoa seed makes chocolate. Of course we were able to try 5 different chocolates during this presentation. All delightful from dark to milk.
Then we entered the warehouse, be warned, it’s hot in there. After the breakdown of each machine we went to the bakery room where we tired out caramels and truffles. Yum. The early grey.
At the end we were given a 10% off coupon to buy any bring in their gift shopped where you could sample anything before you bought!

The chocolate tour will blow your mind and your taste buds. It is well worth the $ 10 a person. We weren’t expecting to be able to taste so much chocolate and the information you get is really interesting. My kids were a little bored, except when they ate the samples, but my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves.
The gift shop attached to the factory is also great. So many varieties of Theo chocolates AND they have free samples to taste here as well. No need to go on the tour! We all ate enough chocolate to last us a month. And bought a bunch to take home.
High quality, fair trade organic chocolate in very creative and well executed flavor combinations. It doesn’t get any better than this.

I had a lot fun on the chocolate tour. Very informative and it was nice to see how everything is run. I’ve never seen how the process goes from tree-​flower-​pod-​seed-​nibs-​chocolate before so it was cool to see the whole process. My tourguide Josh was very informative and knew his stuff. They have you lint down and wear a hair net thru the tour in order to preserve quality of their chocolate and to avoid any contaminations in the plant. Pretty cool. Tried a bunch of different kinds of chocolates as well. 10% off coupon for their retail store.

Super fun and informative tour. Definitely get enough chocolate to make it worth it. I loved hearing about the bean to bar info. Aaron was very energetic and his passion for chocolate was contagious! We had kids ranging from 7 – 15 and they thoroughly enjoyed it too. The factory was not working, so the noise level was great, it’d be a different thing with kids and super loud machines, so that was a positive. We’d do it again :)

Received this chocolate as a gift from a friend. ITS SO GOOD. So many different flavors and so delicate. I would definitely recommend these chocolates whether they are for yourself, for a special someone, or just to look at. The chocolates are also super cute. According to my friend they had tons of different flavors as well. ALSO, vegan chocolates offered! GO HERE AND BE HAPPY.

We booked the factory tour online and a good thing we did because we came on Valentine’s Day and they had to turn away people. We loved the tour! The tour guide was amiable, engaging, and very knowledgeable. It didn’t feel gimmicky or corny and you could tell he was really passionate about the company. The company is fair trade and organic and can be found In places like whole foods so that’s great! I hope there’s some here in California too!
During the tour you first get to sample about 5 different chocolate bars and nibs while you learn about the process and history of chocolate. And at the end you get about 3 samples of their fancier chocolates like ganache and toffee. Definitely worth the $ 10. If we didn’t get to sample that pistachio white chocolate ganache we would not have even considered splurging on those chocolates but omg it is WORTH it. At the end of the tour you get a post card with $ 10 percent off your order in the store… WHERE THERES EVEN MORE CHOCOLATE TO SAMPLE! There’s at least 15+ stations to test out before you buy. They also have coffee and water in the back corner.
I recommend the white chocolate pistachio ganache and the coconut dark chocolate bar (which has real coconut shavings in it that gives it a great texture). So fun. :) the tour lasts 1 HR but if you don’t have time, the least you could do is stop by the store!

Everyone who love chocolate or love doing tours, try making a shop here! The tour is an hour long and you get to sample the goodies that Theo Chocolate makes! Including learn the history for the factory, where the chocolate comes from, and see how the make their chocolate.
At the end of the tour you finish at the gift shop where you can buy some more chocolates for yourself, friends, family, co-workers…EVERYONE! I do have to say the chocolate is pricey, super dark in flavor, and very unique for chocolate combinations, but 100% worth it.

We were looking for something inexpensive to do and looked at an old Thrillist post where they suggested the $ 10 Theo chocolate factory tour in Fremont. You know, the makers of those delicious chocolate bars you see at PCC and other local places? We figured it would be a good way to spend an hour or so and it gave us an excuse to spend extra time in Fremont. Apparently they’re distributed nationally — I had no idea! The tour was pretty informative and our guide — I think her name was Katrina? — really knew her stuff. She dazzled us with fun facts about the cacao plant, transporting the beans, manufacturing the chocolate, the importance of choosing fair trade products, and more. The tour is split into three-​ish parts — first, the educational element where you sample up to 5 chocolates and learn all about where the deliciousness comes from and what goes into it. Then you move on to another room to learn more about the manufacturing process, see the machines, and taste some cocoa nibs — they’re kind of nutty in texture, which was oddly satisfying for me. Finally, you move in to what I’ll call the kitchen — where the most important magic happens! Of course, more samples. It seems like your tour guide selects which items you sample, depending on what dazzles them. My favorite thing was the brittle because it fools my brain into believing it’s peanut brittle! Sign me up for a lifetime supply.
If you have some extra time and you’re in the area, definitely check it out. Also you get 10% off what you purchase in the store if you go on the tour!

If you are a chocolate lover, Theo is a MUST for more than just the best organic chocolate in the world. Here’s why you MUST add Theo’s to your Seattle «must do» list:
1) It’s America’s first organic chocolate factory and it’s also fair trade.
2) It’s in a very awesome neighborhood in Seattle. If you go on a Saturday, spend the morning at the Fremont Market and then head here for some treats.
3) They have great tours!
4) The best part is the show room. They have free samples of all their chocolates and you can literally spend hours here sampling every type of chocolate to chocolate with sea salt to spicy chocolate or my go to favorite, milk chocolate.
5) It’s a great place to buy quality, yet cheaper gifts for people.

The tour ticket is $ 10/​person, and it’s about an hour long. You get to learn about everything chocolate. I’m not kidding, EVERYTHING!
Our tour guide was Steven, and he’s super friendly and knowledgeable about cocoa beans. He explained how the farming worked, where the beans came from, and step by step how to make a chocolate bar. During the tour, Steven let us try different chocolate samples from different regions or with different mixture of sugar and cocoa beans.
At the end of the tour we each got a little postcard with a 10% off coupon to their gift store. Even if you don’t feel like spending money on more chocolate after binge eating them for an hour, you will go home with a whole new perception of the chocolate industry.
This tour was so fun, yet so educational. I’ll recommend Theo’s chocolate factory to friends and family.

Theo Chocolate is the only organic, fair trade chocolate factory in the country, and just so happens to be in Seattle. For just $ 6, you can take a tour and eat tons of delicious samples. You’ll have to reserve a spot because their tours are incredibly popular.
The guide will tell you all about the process of turning raw cocoa beans into chocolate and show you all the machines they use. This was certainly interesting, but my favorite part about the tour were the smells. The entire factory smells like fresh chocolate. If you are chocolate lover, you will want to live here forever! I was completely surrounded by this warm, comforting scent, and I didn’t want to leave. Oh, and did I mention the samples? So dark and sweet and chocolatey and delicious…
If you aren’t based in Seattle, but would still like to experience the bliss that is Theo Chocolate, don’t worry! Many stores across the United States supply Theo’s chocolate, so you can look for locations nearest you on the website.

Seattle has its coffee, rainy weather and Theo’s chocolate!
On a late afternoon day, we stopped by Theo’s hoping to catch a factory tour to watch the process of making their chocolates and sampling their products (mostly the latter!). Fortunately, they had space available for walk-​ins but my advice is to book reservations online so you don’t have any disappointments. The cost is $ 10 per person for the escorted one hour tour.
Start: Be ready to follow a lot of rules as you enter a live factory. Hair nets and no perfume policy is just some of the requirements. Kid friendly (must be at least 5) and be ready to eat!
Tour: A staff member will bring you to a room dedicated to learning about the chocolate making process. You’ll start with a tutorial on everything cocoa (where it’s grown, size, production, etc…) This takes about 20 minutes and there is plenty of bench seating and water in the back. They pass out at least 4 different samples and I highly recommend tasting everything!
Next, you’ll enter the actual factory and the first thing you’ll notice is the heat. I thought I was back in Hawaii! The equipment, supplies and watching the employees handling the chocolate process was very impressive. Photos are acceptable.
End: Once you exit the production area, you enter the molding area where again you see the staff in action creating and designing the chocolates for purchase. With pleasure, they hand out more samples. At this point, I was maxed out and needed a cup of coffee.
They send you off with a 10% coupon which you can use in their gift shop filled with more Theo’s Chocolate.
The tour was sweet, to the point and definitely not calorie free.

I REALLY wanted to do the chocolate factory tour, but by the time I’d learned about Theo’s (about two days before we left for Seattle) all of the available slots were filled. :(They do have day-​of tours that they release the times for at 10AM, but when I asked about it, they said that all the day-​of tours had been filled and all we could do was put our names on the waitlist. So, make your reservations for the tour early, because they fill up fast!
But, NO MATTER! We ended up spending a good 30 – 40 minutes just perusing the retail store (and trying every single sample, of course). The seasonal chocolates (ie. peppermint, gingerbread, etc.) were great, but I really loved their regular flavors as well. My favorites were the raspberry and the mint! They also had hot coffee samples available in the back corner of their chocolate bar.
We ended up buying quite a few bars of their chocolate because although we knew that they were also sold at other retailers, we figured that they would be cheaper at their own store. This is NOT the case. You can buy them for about the same price (and in fact, 1 cent cheaper) in Pike Place! So, if you aren’t in the mood for the factory tour or commuting up to Fremont, but would still like to try the famous Theo chocolate, you can still do so!

We came for the tour of the factory and it was a good experience for $ 10 a person. The first half is sitting in a room, while they tell you about their fair trade practices and introduce you a bit to the process of making chocolate. Then they sort of lead you through their small factory space to show you how it is done. Afterwards, you will get a 10% off coupon for purchases in their attached retail store.
You get to sample lots and lots of chocolate (about 15 different kinds, I’d say) during the tour and then in their retail store. Their seasonal holiday bars were nice! My favorite of their normal bars were: salted almond and the ginger one.
It’s lots of fun, but warning: you may go into a chocolate coma afterwards. I want to go back and get some of their sipping chocolate at some point.

YUM! I loved Theo Chocolate even though I’m not a huge chocolate person! I was on a time crunch so I only stopped by the retail store to get some bars of chocolate for my family before leaving Seattle. The actual store is very charming and you can truly smell the chocolate wafting through the air.
It was great that they have samples of literally every chocolate they sell because it would be incredibly difficult to choose otherwise! My absolute favorite was the coffee and cream chocolate bar which was decadent and smooth with a a nice coffee flavor. I also loved the seasonal «nutcracker brittle» which was dark chocolate with hazelnut and brittle bits inside of the bar. The cocoa they use is definitely high quality because the chocolate is creamy and incredibly smooth. I also ended up buying a normal milk chocolate bar and a salted almond milk chocolate bar. The salted almonds juxtaposed really well with the smooth, creamy milk chocolate.
I samples plenty of other chocolates which were amazing but I had to draw a line somewhere. The coconut milk chocolate bar was incredibly rich and delicious. The orange and dark chocolate tasted great and had a great balance of flavor. They also had free coffee samples which was nice to wash down the samples with.
The price-​point of each 3 ounce bar is $ 4-​$ 5 which is definitely higher than your average chocolate bar… but Theo Chocolate bars are definitely superior to your average chocolate bar. The bars are fair trade and organic and you can truly taste the difference in the quality of ingredients. They have plenty of unique flavors and the packaging is beautiful. Whether you’re a chocolate connoisseur or chocolate novice, you’ll love these bars. I definitely recommend this store and would love to come back for the chocolate tour next time I’m in town!

SO. MUCH. FUN. and CHOCOLATE. Can’t forget about the chocolate. Came here for the factory tour. They have them seven days a week, I think starting at 11am. It’s an hour long and costs $ 10.
Be forewarned, you’ll have to lint roll yourself and surrender any furry/​wooly/​hairy clothing you have prior to the tour, as well as hair netting and beard/​mustache mask yourself (if you have facial hair).
You sit in a room for roughly 30 min, learning about cocao, the plant, where they get their beans from. And pretty much why their bars cost a pretty penny or two. Then, there are samples of chocolate galore. Yum. I think depending on the season, they might have some different ones, we tried a seasonal gingerbread one.
Then you make your merry way through the factory, looking at the machines. One of the best parts is making your way to the confectionary, where they make their truffles and other specialty sweets. And you get to try them! The apple cider caramel was yummy. The tour ends at the shop, and we got 10% off our purchase (saw in previous posts you got chocolate bars… pretty bummed). The chocolate is still pretty spendy as well as the other stuff they have for sale. But you can get your chocolate smeared hands on some exclusive things they don’t sell outside of the store. I really wanted to try their ghost pepper chili caramel, but they were out.
Come here! And enjoy a real life chocolate factory full of delicious goodness and yes, cacao nibs are a super food! Bön appetit!

It would be absolute blasphemy for Theo Chocolate to get anything less than 5 stars. For starters, their chocolate is creative yet delicious (not to mention riiiich). To make things even cooler, they were one of the first organic fair trade chocolate companies in America.
To add further compliment, Theo Chocolate has the friendliest, most helpful, and happiest employees! I took a tour of the chocolate factory when I was in Seattle recently, and was so pleased that I came here. I wish I could remember the name of our sweet tour guide (she had an english accent!), because she made our tour so inviting, educational, and fun. She consistently fed us chocolate throughout the entire duration of the tour, which I loved but my body secretly hated (try eating chocolate for an hour straight, and see how your stomach feels). nobody stand down wind from me ;)
Following the tour, we ended up in the store, which was so warm and cozy with the large fireplace! Oh, and filled with more chocolate samples. If you’re in Seattle, this is a must-​see!

I took a tour of the amazing Theo chocolates and I wish I remember the name of the gal who did my tour because she was amazing and awesome! She was fun, energetic about what she was saying, and just made the tour less of a tour and more of a fun experience.
Once finished, the gave us an amazing postcard as well as a 10% off purchase coupon to spend in the store! What a great way to fill my carry on bag even more to the brim with presents for my coworkers! haha!
I will be back when I am back in town and this is a place I would want to work with in the future!

Who can resist touring a chocolate factory? Not me, even when it is $ 10 to go on it. You can book your spot for the tour in advance which is always a smart thing to do instead of just showing up. When you go and check in, they make you lint yourself plus cover your hair and facial hair, if applicable. No fur or stiletto boots either, you know, in case you’re walking around town in those.
But the $ 10 is totally worth it, you get endless amounts of chocolate samples plus get schooled on their process, what sets them apart and you leave smelling like chocolate. There’s worse ways to spend your days! At the end of the tour you get a 10% off coupon for purchases made in the store. They have their standard bars you find in retail location along with confections which is just specific to their factory. Tristan was our tour guide and he was super – I couldn’t have asked for a better guide!
Word on the street is that it used to be free and they gave out free bars at the end. Those days are sadly gone but most likely because Theo has grown in popularity and getting bigger and bigger thanks to their bean to bar journey plus the whole fair trade and organic thing.

I didn’t go on the factory tour, but if you do, you get unlimited samples for $ 10, and that’s a steal for chocolate lovers! The factory tour ends at the chocolate shop, which is super cute!
The shop is organized and pretty spread out, so even if there are a lot of people, you don’t feel claustrophobic. Although the prices of all the chocolate products are a little pricey, they’re packaged quite nicely and apparently taste great. They have samples for almost everything they sell. Store employees were quick to restock products that were running low. And all the cashiers are friendly and fast, so people in line aren’t waiting for a long time.
I wasn’t even chocolate wasted, and I ended up spending $ 100 at the store to bring chocolates back for family and friends!

I had a friend in town and used her as an excuse to be tourists in Seattle since I had never been on Theo’s chocolate tour before. We had our fill of chocolate education (yay for Fair Trade!) and chocolate tastings and I really enjoyed the tour around the facility. Our tour guide (I forget his name) was super enthusiastic and I couldn’t help but «oohh» and «ahhh» at everything he said.
We ended with a stop in the store where we could buy everything we tried during the tour and then some; there were even additional tastings inside. I left away with some confections, chocolate bars, and even a Theo’s mug! I had to stop myself from going overboard. It’s a little more pricey than your average chocolate bar but for the quality and organic/​Fair Trade practices, it can’t be beat!

I highly recommend the tour to anyone for both kids and adults. Its educational, fun, and you get to try all sorts of different chocolate! For the price of $ 10, it’s a great affordable experience.
The guided tour shows you the process from bean to bar. Obviously since they don’t grow the beans here, they show you pictures and the beans itself. From the bean stage, you get to see first hand of the remaining stages in their processing room and kitchen.
Our tour guide was named Danielle. She was full of chocolate knowledge, excellent speaker, entertaining, had good humor, and genuine smile.
Definitely add this to your to-​do list. Make sure you book reservations and follow proper clothing guidelines too (closed toe shoe).
