The Vogue

This place is gone but we will always remember it for the Tuesday and Wednesday Local Band nights back in the 80’s & 90’s. I saw Nirvana, SoundGarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney and even Wayne (Jane) County! I guess it helped that I was working there at the time so I got in free.
Ladies Night was always fun on Thursdays and those girls that were grinding on the bar (just hillarious). My favorite night of all was James «Baby Teeth’s» 60’s Psych, Garage & Pop.
Long live the Vogue!

The Vogue is ai-​ight. That’s about all I can say. It’s going under very soon (if it hasn’t already), so go soon if you really want to check it out. There is a contingent of the Goth community that seems to base their entire social life around the Vogue.
I can’t really figure out why. The drink prices are mediocre. They do have strong mixed drinks (try the Black Opal ;) The sound always sucks in my opinion. The dj’s are the same as all the other EBM dj’s in Seattle. They play the same tired songs, or they play new songs by rip-​off Hellelektro artists like Psyclon 9 and the like.
It’s just boring to me. The sad part of the Vogue closing is that they hosted a number of important bands and shows over the years. With the Catwalk out of business and the Fenix catering more to a party Pioneer Square crowd, who’s going to step up and host artists like Noisex or Death in June?
That being said, the Vogue is one of the places that you’ll find yourself reminiscing about years in the future but you won’t have any idea why. It wasn’t the greatest club, but it was an important part of the Goth community.

My how it’s changed! I was there back in the day. my mom called it a rathole and from the looks of the inside. it still is! I love it though. Brings back a lot of memories (some are quite hazy) of peeing in front of Alice in Chains, dropping acid in the parking lot and ending up at Gasworks Park. Ahh, those were the days.

I always have a blast when I go to the Vogue. It’s a fun environment with enjoyable music and good friends. I wouldn’t call what the Vogue calls «drink specials» special, as they are usually more than $ 5 (call me a cheap bastard, but to me a drink special at a night club should be something like a $ 3 mixed drink made with at least one BRAND name, not all fucking Monarch shit). However, the drinks ARE stiff and the bar staff is super nice. I really love 80’s music, so one of my favorite nights at the Vogue is Saturday, DJ Evan Blackstone spins everyones favorite 80’s tunes and ladies get in free before 11pm. Awesome! Other fun nights: Monsignor hosts his monthly Confessional, second or third Thursday of the month; Fabulous Fetish Friday, the last Friday of the month; Fetish Night, every Sunday. The Vogue also often plays host to touring gothic/​industrial bands and artists. The cover to get in ranges from free (on Monday nights) to $ 8 (FFF when not in fetish attire). Shows often vary between $ 10 and $ 20.

After spending a good part of a Capital Hill afternoon and a hefty chunk of change shopping for our outfits, we were all excited to hit Fetish night at the Vogue. Pretty big disappointment.
The place itself is dark (which I was expecting), but didn’t expect something so dirty and looked like no one had cleaned it or done any maintenance work in 10 years. I felt like at any given moment I could miss a turn to the bathroom and fall in to some alternate universe. My gal tried a little pole dancing towards the end of the night and realize why you don’t see too many people climb it — it’s a chinsy peice of crap. Oh and did I mention the men’s bathroom? You pee in to a bunch of buckets — I swear! Granted this isn’t isn’t a 5 star restaurant, but c’mon.
The turnout was kind of… well…depressing. Dominated by guys wearning kilts doing trance dancing, a few of the girls had dressed up but didn’t spend much time on the dance floor. Of the drag queens, only one really looked good and the others looked like they belonged on a «Cops» episode.
The DJ flat-​out sucked. In addition, the draft beer was lukewarm. Maybe drinking lukewarm beer in a hot club wearing vinyl pants is some form of torture I’m not ware of? Hmm. And the real kicker was I got shortchanged on the cover charge. I think it was an honest mistake — the hostess wanted to give us a discount due to that fact of how hot we looked, and probably assumed I gave her a $ 10 when in fact it was a $ 20. I spotted it right away, but it’s a little intimidating to point out a mistake to a huge woman in black with vampire teeth.
The highlight of my evening was I got plenty of attention, while my hot-​as-​hell looking gal received no attention whatsoever. Muhahaha! Unfortunately it was by some drag queens, neither of which even looked that good. Sigh…
Anyway, didn’t see much of a reason to come back here. Looking forward to trying the Noc Noc on Thursdays.

oh my goth! not as cool as the merc. the drinks could be a little stiffer. but that’s never stopped me from getting wasted and gettin’ down to the sweet, sweet sounds of industerial noise!

Highly recommended for the goth/​fetish/​industrialist in you. Definitely a good place to show off your outfits and act like a silly drunk goth kid.
What they do well is vary their acts. You get good DJs spinning early goth, ebm, post-​punk, synth, some darkwave, and some good old industrial music. On top of that they bring in some fetish people to do some shows and hold dress up nights. They bring in belly dancers, fire-​eaters, and obscure goth bands. They also host most of Musicwerks acts.
