I have to update my review — because they’ve hired new staff! There are now two guys making sushi(as delicious as ever) and at least two additional waiters. Food comes flying out of the kitchen. So great job!

One of the few sushi joints open after 2pm, before dinner time, on a weekday. The food was great! I would absolutely come back!

Tempura tastes like stale oil, and they passed off regular salmon as wild sockeye in my takeout order. Salad dressing is good. Pretty disappointing overall. Unscrupulous business practice with the salmon. They could have told us they were out, and we would have ordered something else, but they just charged more for their regular salmon. Will not be ordering again.

I’m very happy with our experience here. The customer service was great, the décor was nice, and the food was great and timely.

Slimy, fishy eel. No question: worst unagi/eel I’ve ever had, and I like it a lot. There were big chunks of oily skin and fat throughout our rolls. Perhaps this is a delicacy to some? Not us. Never seen it served like that. Asked young waiter and he didn’t have much to say, but he said he was new. Nice guy. Overall– not impressed. In fact, let down. Dragon roll and Kiss of Dragon roll were not good. Fishy undertones w each bite. The Washington Roll was better, but too much rice– it’s one of those huge rolls you have to use your hands to eat. Anyway, bummed it didn’t turn out well. Hopefully they get better fish meat selection and cut out the oily, slimy eel skin please. Update: 4hrs later and both my wife and I are still having a not-so-good feeling after the dinner here. Lying in bed my stomach is grumbling and I can hear her’s. Something wasn’t right tonight at Tokyo Sushi… can’t get such high ratings and yet have food like we had tonight. :(

My new favorite go-to sushi place. The staff is friendly and attentive. The sushi is fresh with a nice variety of creative rolls if you want something besides nigiri. Highly recommend!

This is a very popular sushi spot in a great location that’s busy busy busy all evening. We got their agedashi tofu appetizer, I love sashimi(small) plate, and a caterpillar roll. The agedashi tofu was VERY hard on the outside, while fall apart soft on the inside and tasted like nothing, even after dipping in sauce. The texture is probably due to it being bought frozen and then fried quickly. Their sashimi plate was a nice mixture of tuna, salmon, yellowtail and a few others that came with a bowl of rice. It was all pretty good quality, though I wouldn’t say I was impressed by the freshness. The caterpillar roll was just dandy, with plenty of fresh avocado, but I do wish there was more eel. Their service is pretty efficient and food came quickly. Towards the end of the meal, there was a line of several parties at the door and it took them a while to bring us the check after flagging them down several times.

I really like this place! I had the caterpillar roll and that was awesome, very good portion for just me(it was the waiter’s favorite too!) Actually came back the next day to get it again. I loved the décor as well, the seating is very cute and also private. They could update their menu, though. We ordered dessert thinking it was fried ice cream but they brought us fried bananas and ice cream. They claimed they don’t do fried ice cream anymore. A bit disappointed.

Me and my wife went to the sushi Tokyo couple days ago. It was really nice place clean the service was good but most important the sushi is fantastic. Will order California roll and Dragon kiss both of them was fresh and delicious. The time it seems that we were only customers they have at the time. So we got our food right away. I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends and family

Love the«I heart sashimi platter.“Perfect array of types of fish! My favorite is always the spicy tuna roll and they had an interesting upgraded version of it. The traditional roll with more tuna and avocado on top. Definitely going back for another one of those.

We loved the sushi, however I am very Gluten Intolerant. I asked for Tamari, gluten free soy sauce. My stomach today is telling me that hidden in their cute clay soy container was something other than Gluten Free. We won’t be back.

I really enjoyed this place, it was very cute and delightful. I decided to order the I love sushi and sashimi platter and was quite pleased except for two small things, one of the types of sashimi looked a little off color but it was still delicious, and the plum wine was just a bit too cloying sweet for me. I never DON’T finish a glass of wine I order except for that time. Generally the sushi and sashimi both were delicious and I plan to try the sushi rolls next time!

Service was excellent. I ordered the gyoza, Seahawks roll, and sake roll. They were delicious. Each roll came with huge chunks of delicious fresh salmon, tuna, or BBQ eel. This meal with worth the money and I highly recommend coming here. The staff was extremely friendly and I felt at home.

New favorite sushi place. it’s close to home and mushashi is way way too crowded most days. fresh fish. funky rolls. favorite is the orange blossom and the spicy hamachi. they don’t beat and macerate the fish to a paste which I LOVE and appreciate. we get the I HEARTSUSHIANDSHASHIMA a roll and appetizer and call it good for 2. The happy hour isn’t worth it. skimped on the tempura. might as well get the full order. nicely cut fish. I haven’t had to pull the fascia or tough pieces out of my teeth like other places and pieces are generous. also very reasonable prices for rolls and combos. most times sushi is way overpriced here in Seattle and they all come from the se place really. it just depends on how the sushi chef cuts it and the temperature of the fish. oh yea you can fuck up sushi but I haven’t been disappointed here yet. there was one incident of miscalculated tab from a young new guy so Check your tab before signing or if you’re rich and don’t give a shit. even better for them. I’d bring my parents here. Two steps up from conveyor belt sushi for sure.

My roommate and I were in the University District and wanted some sushi so we ended up here based on what we saw here on Unilocal. It was easy to find and there was plenty of street parking. The restaurant was clean and quiet and we sat at the bar so we could watch the sushi chef(s). The waitresses and chefs were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. We were blown away at how good the Arizona roll was– just avocado and spicy tuna but perfect for us! Unfortunately the agadashi tofu I ordered was overcooked over-sized(which definitely may not be a problem to some people), the seared salmon and ebi nigiri were good but overpriced, and the Coca Cola I was given was so flat that I just couldn’t drink it. We will probably return just to stop in and have another Arizona roll, but most likely wouldn’t bring friends or stay for anything else.

My partner and I came here last night(a Thursday night) about an hour before closing time. We were the only people in the place but the hostess/waitress was greeted us with a smile and did not make us feel like an inconvenience. A second family came in about thirty minutes before closing time and she seemed just as friendly with them as she did us. Service overall was pretty great, except about picking up our check at the end(but even that wasn’t a real wait). As for the food, I ordered the Cucumber salad, gyoza, and California Rolls. My partner ordered the I Love Sushi Platter. The cucumber salad was delicious! Light, crisp, and the sauce was pretty good. I’m not too sure about the sesame seeds, but I still enjoyed it. The gyoza were amazing! The pork was so tender, the outside was not mushy at all, and the flavor was AMAZING. California Rolls are pretty standard wherever I’ve gone for sushi, but I really enjoyed them. The platter came with Miso Soup which I don’t usually enjoy, but I had a taste and I thought it was quite good. The fish all looked fresh on his plate and he said that he quite enjoyed it. Overall, I would say this is an amazing neighborhood sushi place. We went during happy hour so the price wasn’t too bad. Would give a five star except for the slightly slow service at the end and the somewhat dead atmosphere(though that may be with the time and day we went…)

This is only a review based on the service and appearance, not the food. Came in around 6pm on what would be an expected«busy» Friday night, except there was NOONE in there.(They open at 4pm) Meanwhile crossing thru our minds«is the fish fresh since there are no customers?» After being seated in the outdated worn bench seats and décor, we waited for a few minutes.(Mind you, the place was empty) After no one came to take our orders or attend to us, we simply left with no acknowledgement of the staff whatsoever. In conclusion: Vacant restaurant on a Friday night speaks volumes about this place. I doubt we will ever return to try the food.

The sushi at this place is really good. The rolls are big and the fish is tasty. Howevever. I got there after the dinner rush on Friday night and every single table and counter spot had dirty dishes. The server plopped me at the bar after clearing off a spot, gave me a glass of water, and disappeared. I put my order in and ended up having to ask the sushi chefs for chopsticks, a soy sauce dish, and my sake. The entire time I was surrounded by dirty dishes. When I ordered another roll? My two dirty plates stayed with me, I had to just push them to the side.(I added a pic of that.) I know it’s Friday night, but there were maybe five parties including my solo-self, and no surfaces would get cleared unless someone came to sit. I was there for about an hour and a half. She could have just grabbed a tray, filled it up, and stuck it back in the kitchen. It was gross and made me feel uncomfortable.

I’ll start by saying, don’t trust the menu posted on this Unilocal site or on their actual website. Both stated they have Sukiyaki and they don’t. I went specifically to this restaurant thinking my craving for sukiyaki would be satisfied — it was rather disappointing. I ended up getting the tofu udon soup. It was actually very tasty, filled with veggies with a great broth. For dessert we ordered the mochi ice cream. I felt like they were trying too hard. The mochi ice creams were cut in half, placed in a martini glass, covered with chocolate syrup and topped with a cherry. Okay — you want to be trendy? Can you at least say that before hand or maybe provide a picture? First, I’m allergic to maraschino cherries. Second, the chocolate syrup ruined and covered up the taste of the mochi ice cream. Third, the mochi ice cream was of poor quality and tasted artificial, you can buy tastier mochi ice cream from Trader Joes! Lastly, let’s talk about the actual physical environment. I would not come to this spot if you were planning to spend more than an hour at your meal. Why? The seats are rock hard. You’re basically sitting on tough wooden benches with measly wimpy ‘cushions’. Sushi Tokyo is more of a, order, eat as quickly as possible and then leave type of place. Overall, I might come again to this spot for their Tofu Udon but more than likely will take it to-go.

3.5 stars. I always jump into Sushi Tokyo when I need a quick sushi fix. You can tell that the sushi is delicately made and is super fresh. There is quite the variety of rolls at Sushi Tokyo. I would definitely recommend the spicy salmon roll and the sakura roll(if you like white tuna). Dynamite roll is not like the usual baked dynamite. It doesn’t have that sauce all over it. The crunch roll is just ok. Not really super special.
