WOW ~ will miss this place a lot, it was cozy, dependable and yummy. Empty. No note on door, guess the poor economy hit them hard. Will go and see if the sister restaurant on Eastlake is still open for business! (emailed owner, she lives in NYC now and said thanks for the business over the years, no plans to come back here.)

Love the thai food here. I have been coming here for years. The food is good, and the owner is very nice. Favorite Thai place in Seattle. Love it for take out too. They are always consistently good, and very reasonable price. I will try and find parking on Broadway to eat here, I reccomend it.

For Thai food, I don’t think that it gets any better than Siam on Broadway, and my consistent positive experiences here make me excited to try Siam on Lake Union(closer to where I live). I have tried all sorts of different dishes here, and have yet to be disappointed. My personal favorite is good ol’ chicken pad thai. they have a four star system for spiciness, but if you ask, they’ll go hotter(and the one time I did that, I thought my face was going to melt off… it was so good). On top of excellent flavor, tender meat, and perfectly cooked noodles, the service is top notch. The staff seems genuinely pleased to have you as a customer, and keeps your water full, and your drinks coming as much as you ask for them. And it’s not only your server that pays attention to you. the hostess, busboys… hell, even the cooks, all make sure to thank you on your way out the door. If you want excellent Thai food, then Siam is for you. It’s a bit pricey for Thai food, but not by enough to complain.

The food here is fantastic and that is saying a lot coming from someone so sick of Thai food that I would rather eat at Dick’s most of the time. My date couldn’t keep his paws off of my food and it was a first date. So either he was incredibly bold or it was really just that good. The atmosphere is lacking though. We probably would have had another beer here if it was more inviting.

Back in the day I worked at Orpheum records which was right next to Siam. I ate there once or twice. Yesterday some old high school friends suggested we visit and I tried to remember why I’d never been a regular. It had been quite convenient, so I wasn’t sure why I could barely remember the place and its food. I suspect the reason I’d mostly forgotten its existence is because the food is forgettable. I ordered hot and spicy noodles and requested as spicy as possible but could barely taste any spice. They weren’t inedible or anything but neither were they delicious. It almost tasted like it had been made awhile back and reheated or something. I have a big appetite but I only finished half my meal. I then ordered black rice pudding, a dish which I love and order regularly at Thai restaurants. It had copious amounts of salt to the point where I tried to pawn it off unsuccessfully on friends. If you happen to be nearby it won’t kill you, but I’d still rather walk a short distance to a different Thai restaurant.

I must say, we had very high expectations for one of the oldest Thai Restaurants still around. The last I came here was like over 20 years ago when I was only a kid. Until then, I haven’t been here since. Let me tell how it went… First let me just say that the décor here was very nice. Elegantly planted along the walls through out the restaurants where framed photos of different places and arts of Thailand. This was nice to see. Granite tables, a fish tank in the center of the dining area and an open kitchen adds to the presentably of the place. The food in the other hand I thought was just OK. I was expecting something much better since this is Siam, a name that has history here in Seattle. Nothing to special, seemed a little on the salty end for my taste and we do eat a lot of Thai food and did just didn’t really live up to the expectation. The Siam Curry I ordered just seemed like a rendition of Panaang Curry; don’t know why they had both in the menu. If it wasn’t for the name, I would have never known the difference. The Rhad Na noodles where ok, it felt like they over did it with the fish sauce. To add to all this, I couldn’t tell the difference from the 3 star dish and the 4 star dish we ordered. It seemed like there was more peppers on the 3 star dish. It really seemed as if the cooks just put the same amount every time. I probably won’t come here again. There are plenty of good Thai restaurants down the street from here. I was just hoping this one would have stood out. As far as hospitality goes, I actually had to track the waiter down a few times which is never good :(The prices for lunch is under 10 $ which is not bad but when you glance through the appetizers, the cost around 7 – 8 dollars as well which is horrible! C’mon, who in there right mind will spend 7 $ on spring rolls. You can go down the street and get them for 3 – 4 $ in other places. Just not right. Maybe your experience will be better. Try to enjoy.

this place is one of the original thai restaurants in the seattle scene. they also had a sister restaurant(thai on broadway that later moved to 15th) that was located infront of dick’s. to me they set the standard in thai and i have been disappointed with all other thai places here, california, oregon, boston, and new york. this is what west coast does best really… asian foods. portions aren’t generous but very tasty. i love beef and love their orange beef… you gotta try it… trust me… you’ll like it! their penang, soups and tod mun pla(fish cakes) are excellent as well. granted they used to be so much better… that’s why they get one star taken away! overall very good experience!

Long term fan of Broadway Siam, since 1992. Very fresh, authentic preparations, great traditional Thai specials. Wonderful branch of large Thai family that also runs Siam Lake Union. Extra delicious dishes: yum neur(beef salad with cucumber); pad see yew(noodle dish); phad thai(noodle dish — try it with scallops!). Wonderful service, atmosphere and location. Keep up the great work, team Siam!

Some great Thai food. Very fresh. All of the flavors are clean and crisp. Red Chicken Curry, and Pad Thai were especially good. Service was great. The décor is lacking though. They style is a very dated late 80s, glossy motif.

We’d heard good things, so my wife and I went in to check it out. We sat at the counter. Our first warning of what was to come: an order came in for Sathay Chicken, and it was served up out of the microwave. Now, I like the microwave as much as the next guy, but for grilled chicken? We ordered Phad Thai(my wife’s favorite) and a Pork Panang Curry. My dish was totally lacking in flavor. The mystery meat had been boiled(or microwaved?) and then added to the sauce, and didn’t taste like anything. The Phad Thai tasted like a combination of ketchup and Sri Racha sauce. We figured we’d just eat somewhere else, and were about to ask for the check, when the owner appeared, asking us, «how is everything?» nodding yes. I figured, be nice but honest. I said«to be honest, so-so.» She then tried to cover by saying that everybody else liked it, and that we must not know Thai food. I was polite, but firm, at which point she started telling us how her food is better than the Thai food in Thailand… To add insult to injury, the prices here are a bit higher than at other much better Thai restaurants in the neighborhod.

Sadly… it used to be better. I think(perhaps) there was a change in ownership a few yrs ago. Yet… this is still an old stand-by, and we like to get to-go food here at least once a month. The tom-ka-gai soup is GREAT. I also really like the chicken with cashew nuts. We’ve learnt to steer clear of the fresh rolls, although the spring rolls are worthwhile.

A few weeks ago, after not having been there in years, I went to Siam on Broadway for lunch. When I lived on Capitol Hill, in what now seems like another lifetime, I was a frequent visitor there. In fact, the only thing that kept me from eating there on several occasions was the line out the door.(In which case, I would venture to the now gone Thai Garden across the street, which was also always good.) But I digress… When I went a few weeks back, I had the Phad Thai, which, these days, I seldom order. AND, I was suddenly reminded of how much I like Phad Thai. Very flavorful. Just the right level of spiciness. And good quality, properly cooked, chicken. Also, Siam actually served a real soup to start, not just the broth with a few onions and some cabbage thrown in – which is what is offered as the lunch time«soup» accompaniment at most Thai restaurants. A winner all around! So, I excitedly dragged the husband here for dinner a few nights ago. I was anxious to eat more of this yummy Phad Thai.(I did order it again and was again completely satisfied.) Now, my husband has no problem going to Thai restaurants, but will only order one thing at any of them: Swimming Angel. Sometimes called Swimming Rama. This, for those who don’t know, is chicken with spinach and peanut sauce. And, so, he ordered the Swimming Angel at Siam. The problem was(and now it’s time for a little Unilocal quiz), the peanut sauce was severely lacking in: a) flavor b) spice c) peanuts d) all of the above If you guessed«d,» you are correct. Sigh. He won’t be coming back here. And, since he is my most frequent dining companion, I won’t be returning very often either.

If I were new to Seattle or new to Thai food I might unknowingly find Siam to be a decent place. Unfortunately, it is a mere shell of the truly wonderful restaurant that it once was. I have eaten there since it opened in the 80s so I have a fair frame of reference to base my comments on. Over the years the ownership has changed, they have obviously lowered their standards and they seem to be attempting to live on their legacy. Back when this was a good place to eat they had a line out the door every night. Now there are many alternatives nearby and most people wisely explore them. The last, and I mean LAST time I ate there we sat at the counter to catch the action in the kitchen. I was shocked and angered to watch as our chicken satays were removed from the refrigerator cold and pre-cooked, their plastic wrap peeled away and then tossed thoughtlessly into the microwave like a hot-pocket. My bubble has officially burst. Is it that hard to grill a freakin’ satay to order anymore? I’m GLAD to wait in a restaurant for food that I couldn’t just pull out of the freezer at home. Anyway, though they were served with a smile, the stays were rubbery and bland and I was mad at them for serving them to me. I knew that they knew better… and they knew that I knew. The phad ke mao that came next was fair at best. This was just one of the many dissapointing experieneces that I have there over the past few years. As a result, I no longer recommend this place and I certailnly don’t intend to willingly eat there anymore.

I’ve had a chance to sample all of the various thai flavors on Broadway the three years I’ve lived in the neighborhood and have settled on Siam as my favorite. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is awesome, and the food is tasty. It’s not overdone like you find at Jai Thai and not boring/bland like you find at Rom Mai. It has the best of all worlds. One hint: Don’t be afraid to spice it up!

I’ve just moved to the neighborhood, and I stopped in tonight with friends and had a delicious meal. The fresh spring rolls were generously-sized(and did not contain cilantro — YAY), but I thought the $ 8 price for a 4-pc chicken satay appetizer was a bit steep. My garlic pork was nicely spiced even though I’d wussed out and gone for 2 stars(my friend’s 4-star phad see euw was delish!). I’m happy to find a nice Thai place within a 5-minute walk of my new apartment!

Siam how I miss you… I want to come back to Seattle just so I can eat here again!!! Seriously, this has to be the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I have no idea if it’s authentic, but it’s good, and that’s all that matters to me! Because the food was reliably so good, I tried new dishes here I would have never trusted anywhere else, and they were always at least good, if not great! It’s not right in the middle of the Capital Hill goodness, but if you have the time to go up Broadway a bit, or want to go see a movie at the Harvard Exit, it’s simply the best place to stop in at.(P.S. ketchup in the phad thai?! NO idea what the guy is talking about, this place has my picky husband’s FAVE phad thai and no ketchup in site).

Service was great, I wish I could say the same for the food. We had food dishes whose high points were the size and how fast them came out but the food mediocre. We started with Veggie Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay, the chicken was tough and the Spring Rolls were really greasy. Then we had Pad Thai with Tofu and Fried Tofu squares with sauces. They were both large portions but the food was BLAND. All together without tax and tip but with two Thai Ice Tea the bill was an even 40. Will I be back, nope.

The Singha is ice cold… mmm…good. The joint is clean and efficient, but not very exciting. The service is fine and the bathrooms are clean. The food is OKAY. I had # 54… it is a vege dish and I cannot recall the name. Honey had the cashew chicken. #54 was good and hot(chili flakes), but dull. The chicken dish was GOOD not great, good.
